And this one helps me remember the Preamble to this day :D
school house rock is a good thing.

sometimes those neumonic devices and songs/tricks aren't the best ways to remember things. i always get a kick out of someone trying to alphabetize something and having to start the song over each time. : )

you can only imagine how foolish i look while i'm trying to schedule a meeting with a client and doing the

which month has 31 days or not "game" on my knuckles

The name of every country in the world (well, before the mid-1990s).

I learned the books of the Bible via a children's song. Songs are really pretty amazing as teaching tools for memory work!

I want to be really good at something. I feel like I'm only average at many things: music, video games, cooking, writing, art. I don't have that one talent, in my opinion, that I'm fantastic at. Maybe that's only my opinion, but I want to work on that. Then again, is it really something you work on or pick out to do? :/

i actually wrote a post about this subject (sort of) earlier today, sort of. : )

i think you should always pursue the item(s) that you're most passionate about and don't worry too much about whether you're "great" or not. you'll definitely get better! but don't compare yourself to determine whether you're "great" at it. : )

besides, hard work/practice beats talent (that doesn't practice) every day of the week!

Sorry, what did you say again? I wasn't listening :p

Praise Report! Praise Report!

OK, so you guys were right.

Several months ago, I posted about going for a paid position as a church musician. It turned out the "church" had nothing to do with Christ, but just gave touchy-feely secular humanist feel good messages. Any hymns and special music referencing Christ would be edited/censored. I notified them that I was no longer interested in the position, stating that I would not be able to censor Christ from spiritual music.

You guys said that God would give me something better.

Well, God gave me something better. A member of a community choir I am in sent out an S.O.S. in mid-December that their church needed a pianist to get them through their Christmas services. Their pianist, who had become deathly ill (and has since passed away), could no longer play. The church then decided to hire me on permanently. I make more at the Lutheran Church than I would have at the secular humanist church. I'm not Lutheran, but am learning their worship "format" and their liturgies, which was confusing at first.

So....thanks for all the encouragement you gave me back then. Isn't it nice to be told that you were right? :)

Seriously? I'm saying you were lying in wait, like tigress, ready to pounce. Getting me back for my joke on the other thread! It's less funny when you have to 'splain it, ya know... :p

Honestly this time, I don't understand what you're saying here, seriously!! :)

Rachel, I sometimes feel the same way. I'm great at reading, but that's not producing anything. I'm good at writing and drawing, but I easily get discouraged when I can't draw what's in my mind and sometimes my writing doesn't flow so well. I don't have musical skills and I haven't played video games in quite some time but I'm good cook, again, not great but reasonable (as long as it's a main course, not dessert).

But I can name one thing you're great at, and that's being a great encourager and a wise, godly woman.

This is the first time I've watched the Super Bowl in years, and the only game I watched this season. That's right, I'm not into sports but my lady wanted to watch the game.

All I can say is the game gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "beating a dead horse"
