Thank you so much for investing in these girl's lives! As a single parent, I can really appreciate people like you who help fill in the gaps and show love to these kids who really need it. You are a special person.
that's sweet of you to say, but really, i feel like i'm the one getting what i need--maybe even more than them. when i started doing this, i am sorry to say, i tried to quit twice inside of a year. they scared me because i couldn't relate on so many levels, or maybe i was afraid to see myself in them.

the reality is that we have more in common than i ever thought. they're broken girls, and as a girl, i was broken too. we act out in different ways, but the pain and isolation are the same.

oh, and since i am definitely a big kid, it also helps me to get out all my goofiness with little people who don't think it's weird. who else will cartwheel around the track or have dancing competitions and not think its wildly inappropriate?

That's a cool puzzle lil Christian. My birthday is soon, the 25th, so a couple weeks. Anyhow I would like a Laminator. Or one of those kitchen islands you roll in I don't want one that's built into the floor. I want to be able to move it out of the way. Oh and a pony, I want a pony, not a my little pony a real pony and someone to take care of it. Actually I'd rather have chickens and a goat.
Get chickens and a cow. A goat needs to be regularly tested for diseases and you need to have a good fence, because if I'm correct they'll jump. Plus they eat everything including the kitchen sink. lol

Then we can call you... the laminator. Hopefully you aren't a series 1000 though.

Thanks Monicat, that's my non duck lip selfie. Thanks for what you said about my family. I don't know if I'm inspiring, but thank you, my house is a mess right now. But oh well.
Well maybe if you got the goat it would eat all the mess.

WAW!! you've reminded me when I used to serve orphan kids back home.....we would go as a church service n' each one of us would take a group of kids n' talk to them, do things together, take them out for fun, things like that.....N' you are right, it looks like I'm going to serve them, but the truth is, THEY are the ones serving me......You know what Monica?, pray A LOT every time before going to them, which I'm sure you do :) That's an amazing service that you're doing, God bless you Monicat. :)

Sometimes I take the Sunday school kids out for fun or teach them a lesson if it's my turn. They are a lot fortunate from those orphan kids!! But those who are 18 years and above goes with the church to serve in Kenya once every year so they learn how fortunate they are. :)

yeah, it's actually organized by the girl scouts. school counselors "nominate" certain girls that need additional attention or mentoring, usually because they're "at risk" kids for all the unfortunate things that kids (girls) can be at risk for.

what's really cool is that the school supports it so much that they give quite a bit of latitude to take the girls places and do things with them--even what we discuss, especially off-site. we're having a sleepover in two weeks (start praying now, please) and one of my favorite things to do is take them riding. i love seeing their confidence/trust grow in such an organic and beautiful way.

it's heartbreaking to see them trying to find a place in this world without Christ in the center.

i'd like to think i'm helping them and showing them the way, but usually it feels like the opposite. they're such a blessing to my life, and have made me so thankful for the things i didn't have to experience. kids hold a mirror up to you, whether you want to see it or not.

oh, and a funny thing: i was never a girl scout. : )

i think its funny that you think a goat is more work than a cow : )

i raised a bummer calf named molly. she would literally roll under fences. i kid you not. even at a trim 800lbs.

I once put together a Millennium Falcon 3D puzzle & a 3D bust of Darth Vader one for my friends' son once. He'd bought them & hadn't put them together & they were still in the shrink wrap. I was like "You eeeeevvvvverrrrrrrr gonna put those darn thing's together??" It was agonizing to see them still in the box. He said: "Knock yerself out!"

I think it took me like 3 weeks to do both...the Falcon was hard. Ugh! I think next time I'll get some help if I tackle another 3D one, though I can't imagine any time in my near future I'll be putting any puzzles together.

I love cow's they are really sweet and they have beautiful eyes but I used to live down the street from a dairy farm. Their gas is horrible and their poop is huge. No one has time for that nonsense.

My dad was raised on a farm, helped a farmer each night after working a 8 shift when us girls were small and with his welding business worked with and for the farmer.

Love the farm. Gotta agree with your assessment of cows. LOL :)

I went to the store. I saw my favorite box of cereal. My favorite box of cereal was all the way in the back on the shelf. I could not reach my favorite box of cereal. So now my favorite box of cereal is still all the way in the back on the shelf and i'm at home typing this.....without my favorite box of cereal.

Ken, is that you? If so, please don't be offended but I had pictured someone different based on what I've read of you on the forum, especially with your "duck talk" which I've thoroughly enjoyed btw. :)

God is good.

i just got back from my girls' group. every time i drive back, i feel so overwrought with concern and fear for them. none of them have any strong family connections -- several live with guardians/family member. they're so hungry for love, attention, and someone to simply ask them about themselves and show genuine interest. i'd love to think they're unusual, but i know it's just not like that.

anyway, just when i think that they're overly mature jr. highers, one of them suggests we try cartwheeling around the track since we were leaving anyway.

i can't remember the last time i was cartwheeling, but i think it might be good for the soul. : )
Sometimes you just gotta be a little kid again. I sing out loud and shuffle in the grocery store sometimes. Of course I get lots of odd looks but my heart is happy and I felt like singing. :)

God is good.

With a thankful heart,
Abbie Jean
