It's a fictitious movie based of off a fictitious comic book. I'm not trying to be rude about anything that anyone has said here. We are all entitled to our own opinions and thoughts, but as someone that is a newer Christian, this is the kind of stuff that makes me want to back away. It really is just a movie and I don't think I'm blind for saying that. No one is going to go out and worship Superman after this movie comes out. People will still acknowledge the Lord and know that He is God. Not everything in this world is evil.

I don't know, there are some people that are REEAALLLLYY into their comic book stuff, movie or no movie.

  • Collectors items/abundant paraphernalia
  • Costumes/cosplay
  • Conventions
  • Heated debating
  • Adoration - sometimes fetishizing

I'm not condemning the upcoming movie - I may even enjoy it - but if all of that isn't some indication of idolization, I don't know what is.

I collect Superman stuff. I've gone to ComicCon conventions. I've had debates and or conversations about such stuff. I have a big interest in comics and I'm REAALLLLY into it as you would say, but I don't idolize any of them or think they are God or whatever else others think. It's silly to say that anyone that has an interest or does any of the things you listed is a form of idolization.

I became a Christian when I was 20 (I'm 34 now), and this kind of stuff makes me want to back away after all this time. But here's the thing. People mean well, ya know? They really do, they just get too intense and forget that people are in different places in their walk with Christ. Superhero stories (which I totally dig, I'd go to CC in a heartbeat!) were/are created because we have 1) a knowledge that there is a Creator, and 2) we have a need to figure out who that Creator is. So instead of believing the God we know, we create a god(s) we can control. God(s) that look, sound, feel, and behave like us. God(s) that answer to us. Think about it. Superheros answer to us. The Almighty God does not. This is why people like superheros.

Next.

Don't back away. The Body of Christ is suuuuuuuper messed up. Yep. And that's never going to change. Sorry kid, it just isn't. People are broken, tremendously broken. But their brokenness isn't between you and them; it's between THEM and GOD. And people on this site are nuts. Have you been into the Bible Forum? Don't go! EVER. Ever, ever. Goodness, it's awful in there. The one thing that doesn't evolve in all of God's creation is the human soul. We change, love, sure, but only with Christ. That's it. No one changes on their own. You're going to find wackos. Always. You're going to find people who will quote you scripture and will sound like they know what they're talking about! But they won't be good people. That's why you have to read the bible and study for yourself. That's why the bible says to study and hide its words in our hearts.

So please stay. Please love Superman (even though Ironman is CLEARLY superior) ;). Keep walking with Jesus, pray, and read your bible. People are always going to be people. Jesus saves us and makes us tolerable, that's all. :)

Is it silly? I wonder.

Then again, I have Spiderman as an avatar.

You really don't need to justify any of it. I'm just throwing thoughts out there. To each their own, right?

I'm kinda tired about asking questions on here or making threads and people turning what I have to say into something else that 'condemns' them. I said I felt guilty watching that movie because of the way people see superheros, the similarities and vocabulary used to compare him to God and the way people talk about these characters. I just felt that in the end, it doesn't make any sense to waste so much time and effort in watching movies like these.

I just felt really awful watching it. My flesh liked the movie a little bit, but spiritually I felt empty and very sad that the theatre was full of people making a big deal of a fictional character and that my church had to close down for lack of attendance.

But you know what, shlee23? I think I'm the one who's going to back away. I'm leaving the site and I'm not coming back. What for? Because whenever I ask a question on here or I try and make a friend, people just push me away or change the words I say and make me feel like I condemned them when I didn't.

I thought this was a Christian site, where I would feel welcome and peaceful but honestly it has only brought heartache, drama and depression. I don't even know what I believe in anymore because if I felt so bad about watching that movie, then why do you all "who are also Christians" didn't feel bad? In other words, if God were to have been talking to me, you all would have felt it too and you didn't. Maybe God is made up. Who knows...but I'm done here.

Be careful with entertainment because most of it is demonic and can send you to hell. When you watch something more or listen to some more, the more that thing influences you.

It's true, there are studies that show that things like pornography, video games, and television, can negatively influence you.

A pastor who lived in my regional area had to cast out demons from a man because they entered into him when he watched the Devil movie by M. Night Shyamalan.

Pornography is a huge step up from what was being talked about here. I don't dispute that it's from the pits of Hell. It's abominable. Video games and TV vary. Some are a problem, some aren't. It's important to be discerning.

That's interesting about the Devil movie, because I came away with a better appreciation about the power of God over Satan. But I guess it could affect someone negatively if they didn't know the One who is truth and were involved in the occult.

Please don't give satan, demons and etc. more credit than they are due. A demon can't come in unless you invite it, or unless you have nothing within that can withstand it.

A human is not a Windows computer. A Windows computer can get a virus just by checking an email. People are more like Linux - it's possible to get a virus but you have to get out and push to make it happen. A human can only pick up a demon by deliberately going after things he shouldn't be doing.

Oh, Molly. I hurt for you, dear sister. People aren't attacking you, at least I hope they're not. As for what is and isn't acceptable, there are some things that aren't beneficial for anyone eg. pornography, and then there are some things that Holy Spirit convicts some people of and not others eg. violent movies, heavy metal, delicate food - that sort of thing. I hope you stick around. You do have friends here and you're not a burden. We love you mate. Praying for you. :)

I'm a Windows computer and I take offence at that.

Sorry, I couldn't let that pass..

This little bit kind of made me laugh. Not every christian is going to go the same way on every topic. So because we didnt feel Superman was bad you're doubting your into faith? Seriously?

I'll admit superman was bad but it's more because its DC Comics than any pseudoreligious reason.

Lemme see... a supernatural being in human likeness that was willing to sacrifice himself for mankind and can't be killed and who constantly overcomes evil. The man of steel..almost like a savior ruling with an iron scepter...Nope don't see any resemblance which could distract from what Jesus similarly did.

Iron sceptre? Wow, I must have missed a lot from not watching the latest movie. I didn't know he had an iron sceptre.

I've never understood the hoopla of such movies, myself. The more I think of it, the more I think I would be uncomfortable with it. I don't celebrate it, but if you look at these costumes kids have for Halloween... Most of them are some sort of super hero. They idolize these things, and their parents let them. We even have things like comic con for adults. Why can't we get more excited about Christ,m
