I'm kinda tired about asking questions on here or making threads and people turning what I have to say into something else that 'condemns' them. I said I felt guilty watching that movie because of the way people see superheros, the similarities and vocabulary used to compare him to God and the way people talk about these characters. I just felt that in the end, it doesn't make any sense to waste so much time and effort in watching movies like these.

I just felt really awful watching it. My flesh liked the movie a little bit, but spiritually I felt empty and very sad that the theatre was full of people making a big deal of a fictional character and that my church had to close down for lack of attendance.

But you know what, shlee23? I think I'm the one who's going to back away. I'm leaving the site and I'm not coming back. What for? Because whenever I ask a question on here or I try and make a friend, people just push me away or change the words I say and make me feel like I condemned them when I didn't.

I thought this was a Christian site, where I would feel welcome and peaceful but honestly it has only brought heartache, drama and depression. I don't even know what I believe in anymore because if I felt so bad about watching that movie, then why do you all "who are also Christians" didn't feel bad? In other words, if God were to have been talking to me, you all would have felt it too and you didn't. Maybe God is made up. Who knows...but I'm done here.

I'm really sorry you feel this way, sister Molly. Please don't let some bad apples ruin your opinion of this site. While I may have never been interested in such movies, I have also never considered it from your point of view til just now. That is a really interesting way to think of it. And I may have to agree. I don't celebrate Halloween, but look at the costumes for kids. A lot are superheroes. They idolize them. And even adults do too, especially at things like Comicon. The Bible talks about idolatry, so one would thing Christians would be convicted by such thing. But a lot of Christians also need sin spelled out in the Bible. Only God knows, but if you feel wrong after watching such things, don't watch them. That doesn't make you any less of a Christian. You're just as much loved by Christ. I will be praying for you, sister, and I hope you can reconsider on leaving. God bless you, Molly!

Hey Molly? I feel like there is a lot I could say, but what I really want more than anything when I know someone is hurting is to have a two-way conversation with them. I'd rather hear more of your heart and talk this out. If you see this ever, by all means send me a PM.

Lemme see... a supernatural being in human likeness that was willing to sacrifice himself for mankind and can't be killed and who constantly overcomes evil. The man of steel..almost like a savior ruling with an iron scepter...Nope don't see any resemblance which could distract from what Jesus similarly did.
There's no iron scepter. As for the rest, it's no secret that the creators of Superman borrowed much from Samson and Jesus.

I said almost like....as in a simile...one thing parallel to another...steel:iron....Rev 19:14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.... 15Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”a He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.... 16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

Many movies borrow themes of the bible for entertainment purposes...Son of Jor-el kneel before Zod...parallels Christ in the desert when satan asked him to bow down and worship him. Star wars for example uses "the force" while giving no credit to God...many people look to entertainment to escape reality and in so doing the source of entertainment not only mocks God but by constant introduction and desensitization can open possibilities for an unsaved individual to seek anything other than God...Movies/Hollywood are a big source of power of suggestion...many of which even seemingly innocent such as the cartoon the "Smurfs" have satanic undertones. We don't feed our soul with food...we feed it through our mind...what we renew our mind with more plays a big part in our spiritual walk and health. Even after hearing the gospel what do even Christians choose as a source for entertainment more often.... God in Heaven...or the god of this world?

Sure, some things aren't of God. But I would argue that because people are made to worship and we all have the truth of the one true God in us (because He's planted it there in us) that these non-believers are just drawing from His Story because they're also made in His image. Sometimes these creations reflect His heart, other times they do not. But to demonise everything is rather dangerous.

Once we fully deny ourselves...loose our life completely so we may gain it...a person will then take stock of everything they choose to fill their life with.Jesus said if anyone is not for me..... he is against me.....(choosing anything that does not reflect his heart and innocently sweeping it under the carpet, can be dangerous as well)...Yes I like movies too...no I'm not perfect...I'm just saying...the closer I get to Christ the more I see what is not actually humorous nor glorifying to HIM in his eyes....the action or western movies I may enjoy by myself...would I sit down with Christ and expect him to enjoy them with me? How much of our life do we keep for ourselves and not let Christ reign over it.

Smurf:Noun-Liar.......Verb: to encounter another without revealing ones true identity...Many forms of the occult are contained in this cartoon. The most obvious display is through the character of Papa Smurf. Every time the Smurfs have a problem, they go to Papa Smurf who whips up a spell or recites an incantation to help them out. These are very strong images to the child’s mind. As adult Christians, we want to teach children to learn to call on the Lord Jesus to help us through problems. In His Word, God tells us to trust Him, and only Him. He tells us not to rely on practices such as witchcraft or Magic to solve our problems. Nevertheless, children will not learn Godly principles if they are constantly saturated with images of characters using witchcraft and other occult practices to solve their problems. The Smurfs cartoons portray characters who are constantly using occult symbols. In one episode, Gargamel, the evil wizard, drew a pentagram on the floor and lit candles at each point. He then danced within the pentagram while chanting a spell. The pentagram is a five pointed star used in the practice of witchcraft. As Gargamel finished chanting the spell, a magical book opened across the room. A spirit left the book and entered Gargamel’s body, giving him power to battle the Smurfs. What Gargamel did in that episode is what witches have done through the centuries. This is an actual witchcraft practice which millions of children watched.

Superman is just an arch type that represents truth, justice and the American way. Well, at least the American way of the past.

By that logic you really shouldn't be using a computer. Do you have any idea how much metal is in it?

What? It makes as much sense as comparing "iron scepter" to "man of steel" and saying one alludes to the other.

Oh, oh, and some computers have GOLD in them! It makes better circuits you know. Don't want anything to do with that now, we wouldn't want to be seen as worshipping wealth.

What? It makes as much sense as your analogy.

Hmmm....

*Lynx goes back and rereads his post...

Wow, I just shot my sarcasm quota for the whole day! Sorry.

No I'm not sorry. The iron/steel analogy was so ludicrous I just couldn't pass it up. But I still used up my sarcasm ration for the whole day.

Was Superman really made of steel? I mean c'mon man...so for the creators of THAT analogy yeah I reached a little. Fair is fair.
