I can whole heartedly say my life turned out the complete opposite of any hopes, plans and dreams I had in my youth. I messed up a lot along the way, other people messed up my life a lot along the way too. I have many regrets.

Yet would I change the life I have now? Nope. I know now that God owns me and deeply cares about my journey, and because of that I am right where I need to be.
Do I sometimes want to change things? Yes, but I know it’s tough luck because God is getting on with His plan and it is going to end up better than any I had ... so He isn’t going to change the plan because He loves me... even when I am sulking and caught up in the moment instead of rejoicing about my eternity.

Ive got this chapter book series in the library, its called 'whatever after'.
Its about mixed up fairy tales.

There also a series called Happily Ever Afterlife. Its about ghosts haunting schools and going to proms and begging for free lunches etc. You know. the usual.

I havent thought of a scintillating chapter books series yet that I could write. But I have thought of a formula thats really popular, take a group of people ideally 3-4 to start off with as they set off into the GREAT UNKNOWN. Their mission in life is to find God. But God seems likes Hes invisible. Where will they find Him?

WE ARE ALL WINNERS IN CHRIST JESUS!

The only concern with having the truth, is that it carries along with it a huge burden. We have to be a witness to the world and that's pretty difficult being a sinner, selfish, and living by faith.

Great post as it brings into focus the reality of how many of our lives have turned out this far compared to how we expected it to.
I most definitely expected to be married by now with kids and possibly be involved with running a music studio for talented Christian singers
I also expected my Christian path to be smooth without many dark times.
I expected blessings and real breakthroughs for my siblings most definitely.

I have had relationships and God in his mercy got me outta there as they would of ruined me.Trusting God much more now and have learnt to be much more wise and discerning.

Not involved in music..my career had been lead by God for I am a sign language interpreter full time and lead the deaf ministry In my local church. We interpreter the Sunday services for deaf member of the church.

My siblings are of course blessed by God for sure but haven't had certain breakthroughs I expected then to have.
My Christian path has had many dark valleys and dangers that God delived me from over the years..most definitely hasn't been easy but God has been faithful, merciful and much more.
Praise his HOLY NAME
Wow you described my life in a way

I don't know. Life is a lot of thinking. Too much thinking, and if you're an overthinker, almost to go crazy with thinking. Too much pressure. I've always had a feeling that there's an unbearable weight about every step, but at the same time ultimately nothing really matters about what's going on over the Earth and none of it lasts.

I used to sit at parks near bus station or some place like that and watch crowds of people pass by or flock and wait shortly for their buses as they're going back home from daily work. I'd observe their moment in life, wrinkles, how they dressed up, the moment they're living in, the invisible family somewhere out there, their phone calls, their rush, their plans.
It can cause a deep melancholia, but it's also very peaceful. In autumn and winter, you watch sun slowly nearing its setting point at the same time as all these people come and go away.

I can definitely relate to your sentiment in so many ways... I too enjoy people watching... and imagining where they are in life, along with imagining their past and future lives...

My goals in life were to get a job and get drunk. I accomplished both. Then one day got other goals.

has anybody read the Pilgrims Progress.
I dont recall Christian getting married in that book. He went out on a journey though. If he did get married and had kids, he would have never have gone anywhere?
or maybe he did but just couldnt persuade them to go with him.

in any case, he didnt go with his wife. I think she came later.
Maybe its a case of, I'll just meet you there.

I have tried for two years to get children going on a field trip and we never even make it out of the school. thanks to bureaucracy and covid!

Loved the book. I think perhaps the Point is that we don’t get saved in pairs and we don’t stand before God in pairs. The journey is, As I am sure you know, an allegory of salvation and staying on the narrow path. That allegory works for any believer :) we are all responsible for someone. Christian didn’t take his parents with him either, he had to go this journey alone. To the cross and finally over the “Jordan” to the promised land. We can do many things for others but one thing no one can do for us is accept Christ and remain in Him :)

sorry if my post came over as patronising or I stated the obvious. It wasn’t intended.

Have you ever read hinds feet on high places? A similar allegorical style of a believers journey and a good read.
(The author did go off track after she wrote that but at the time of writing she was a believer as far as I am aware. )

yes Ive read that one. It got kinda weird though and I thought it was sort of ripping off Pilgrims Progress a bit. I am sure buddhists could read it and not find it too far from their philosophy though.

Then theres The Alchemist. Have you read that one?

I haven’t read that no. Sorry you felt that about hinds feet. I read it as a young believer and recall enjoying it. Perhaps now I have been on the way a while I would see what you mean If I reread but obviously i don’t recall thinking anything to that effect when I read it.

Och well

its a bit deceptive hinds feet...I got this feeling from it that was more like a devotee blindly following their guru than the real faith and trust that we place in God.
I sort of know because I came out of new age teachings and it was similar to that. ugh. Just dont be deceived by the spiritual fluff is all Im saying.

Through my 20s and 30s I thought that I'd always be an eternal bachelor. But now that I'm middled-aged and most of my close relatives are gone, I wonder if I should have attempted to change my bachelorhood earlier.

the bachelors degree often means you are too smart for anyone.
I didnt really know this when I graduated, but being the obedient daughter I was, I just didnt go and get pregnant in high school and not go to university, as mum. said 'you wont ever lose your degree. yOu can lose a child or husband but you have your qualification for life'

Its ok. I dont really feel the need to create little mini mes and guilt trip them later by being their overbearing mother. One of me is enough!

This is the way qualified bachelor(ettes) guilt trip their children...if it werent for having to look after you, I would be free and saving heaps of money and not having to work 60 hours a week putting bread on the table...or on the other hand, the nanny I have hired to look after you better not have her eye on your dad.

Just be glad you are spared that drama. People do like to play up their happy families status on facebook, but its really to cover the hard grind that it is.

The rest of us lowly singles look forward to our hours of peaceful alone time without childreny and adulterous interference.
