I come back to my old thread..

respond if you have the time or hadnt read it yet

I read this christian book called 'Giving your children the World' and it was about this married couple who (americans) who met on christian missions and subsequently adopted two children from different countries (India and Liberia) and bought them up in the US (conneticut, to be precise) they also had one biological child. Since they now have children they dont travel around the world anymore, but the wife wrote this book and basically its a list of childrens BOOKS from different countries to get your children to read lol.

I thought wow basically just be a librarian! I could have told you that.

Anyway, in my current job I often tell my boss get more multicultural books. People need more books, they need to learn about people other than themselves. But the big 5 publishers where he buys most of his books from are Australian owned and based and the annoying thing is there isnt nearly enough being published or available from a non white background. Even this christian writers group was practically all from british/english backgrounds and when you read a lot of their books its all about a certain type of priveliged lifestyle that not everyone shares. A lot of christian publishers like zondervan for example, assume that every christian reader is like a wife with 3 kids whos husband is a pastor...because thats the type of writer who always gets published!

of course a lot of people just want escapism in their reading they dont really want to read about going hungry or having no money lol. But I think its important to have variety.

At the moment there is a real push to publish more Maori and indigenous writing which is a great plus and not just academic treatises but actual stories by people who are living their lives not people who are studying someone elses life.

I would be interested to read more by native americans but the problem is they just dont get enough opportunity to be published.

Book is 'Give your child the world' by Jamie C Martin

At the moment I am on a reading binge about British Guyana since my neighbour comes from there. I sometimes just pick a country and decide to read books all set in that country for a while. My way of travelling the world (since pandemic means nobody can really travel anyway)

British Guyana...slavery, indentured servants on sugar plantations and the infamous Jonestown massacre.
touted by rich tourists as untouched...untouched until they set foot on it of course. It has amazing rainforest and abundant wildlife. The only english speaking South American country, it has a mix of people bought over to work the plantations and set up colonies, including of course, that breakaway american sect headed by Jim Jones.

Hard to read about colonialism and its effects
well
when a bunch of starving refugees turns up on your doorstep its probably payback for all the times some other country has tried to colonise another with people already living there and had a war over it.

Unfortunately most people have short memories and there is a huge political bias created by the key newspapers of the country. England has become a country of opinion without knowledge. Is it like that where you are?

The answer to the first question can be different for different people. But everybody needs to find an answer because it will determine the conditions by which you measure your life as a success or failure.
Hard to argue with this. At all.

I have been looking back at my life, as a man and as a Christian, and I realize I have no legacy. No positive, effective mark to leave behind.

Foreign missions are not my calling, though I do occasionally feel the need to pray for missionaries and certain nations around the world. My burden though appears to be for America.

Many Christians unfortunately take the tack that societal engagement is energy expended in the wrong direction. Politics is worldly business, I'm waiting for Heaven. Meanwhile, the society around them deteriorates and then they say, The Bible predicted this would happen. No reason to fight for a sinking ship!

However, if this concern I have is from God, I am unsure how to channel my energies. I am part of a small great-awakening prayer group, I vote regularly, I make my opinions known to my representatives and to the president himself. I am thoroughly honest in my communications with them. Thoroughly.

I have a vlog on YouTube, but it is not very effective. Frankly, I'm boring, as the number of visitors and the length of time they stick around to watch me attests.

I feel like I need to make waves. But, I don't know how and frankly am not equipped to do so. I don't stay cool under pressure, which would be vital for such a task.

I had this fantasy that I'd like to be a kind of Moses for the US. But, again, to get there would mean too many changes. I'd have to be a much different human being than I am today, and I don't even know if God would ever want such a thing from me.

So, in short, I don't know what my mission is or even if I have one. Purpose is needed for life, but I don't feel I have any.

Some Christians have told me that just meeting someone on the street or in the church and encouraging them is purpose. Sorry, that ain't cutting it. Not saying such opportunities should be snubbed, but they also should not be the height of what we shoot for.

Why make waves? Sometimes making waves is good. Sometimes it's counterproductive.

What is sensational is not always what is best. A backfiring truck gets noticed, but the steady, purring engine is what gets the job done.

In any task the first objective is to identify your objectives. Then you can decide what to do to attain them.

Also sometimes you should do nothing. There's nothing wrong with doing nothing, if there is nothing to be done.

haha well brits are always going on about how they ruled the world. (british empire anyone?)

most non brits are like yea you brits can think that but then why do you complain about stuff if thats what you did then. If you had the power to change the world why did you squander it and make it worse? When confronted with war and poverty they had a hand in its like ah no we werent responsible for that. er...

to the would be Moses...

Moses didnt know what his purpose was till he reached age 40.
He spent many years as a shepherd looking after sheep
he felt inadequate to the task God called him for and tried to excuse himself...he stuttered, he had killed a man, and his older bro and sis were more adept at leading than he was.

Yet he was the most humble man on earth.

for sure it looked like Moses parted the Red Sea...but he didnt. God did. Moses just pointed his staff.

But the Chinese? They want to rule the earth, "China" means "center", as in center of the world, they are racial supremacists, and now they're pushing their weight around all over the South Pacific with imperial aims.

Here's a little nugget of wisdom, once said by a pagan rock group: People are people. Start realizing that.

no it doesnt mean that actually they called it the middle kingdom, but they didnt want to take over the world cos they were quite happy with their own land! They only had trading goods and skills interests not enslave everybody and steal land interests! You mixing up the chinese with the Japanese, who actually did want to take over in world war 2. They bombed Pearl Harbour, they pillaged Nanjing, and they tried to take over Singapore and australia.

China and Japan are completely different countries you know that dont you. lol

When the chinese circumnavigated the world in the 15th century, it didnt mean they wanted to rule it jut just explore it and maybe trade with other nations. When the emperor united all of China it was only as far as the great wall, the himalayas and the south china sea.

China has the biggest population BECAUSE their land is so productive and was kept fertile. They didnt NEED to take over other lands. They had enough to feed their own. There is now diaspora all over the world because the population got so big but that doesnt mean those that leave then take over and rule OTHER countries.

the chinese had enough of that with the Manchus. The chinese export to the entire world because they already have everything needed for civilisation. Plants, spices, minerals, textiles, literature, culture, philosophy. They had dysnasties, Now they are a republic. for better or worse, but world domination I dont think so. lol

TODAY. NOW. Don't YOU know that?!?

And, China is NOT a republic. The US is a republic. China is a military dictatorship. Ask the people of Hong Kong.
