There is only one castle in nz, which is Larnach Castle.
The guy who built it was once the richest man in nz. (from questionable gains) But tragedy stalked the family when one of his sons had an affair with his second wife and Sir Larnach ended up topping himself. The castle fell into disrepair and was said to be haunted.
It was going for a song when the Barkers bought it and restored everything to its former glory, althougn their own marriage fell apart in the meantime. Today its a number one tourist attraction that you pay $30 to see someones grand folly of over indulgence. You can stay there in the horses stables or cottage. The gardens are magnificent though.

Mrs Barker herself doesnt live there anymore having moved out to a much smaller and more manageable residence.

if you go up the turrets on a clear day you can see out to the harbour and maybe imagine that you are king or queen of the castle on top of the hill.

Luck you 👍🏼
hooray, just dont sell it off again 5 years later. Can you resist the temptation?

All the people on the property pages cant although the richer mansion owners always state 'we are downsizing'. if you have a small house I dont often read of people selling that off and saying 'we are upsizing' Why not just buy a house and stick with it no matter what size it is.

My dream home:
- is well insulated, ventilated and pest proof sealed
- the air-conditioning consists of ductless split units, no window units, no HVAC, no mildew
- no carpets (machine washable area rugs are fine)
- no clutter or dust collectors, minimalist design, easy to clean, surfaces that do not soak up odors, everything is conveniently washable
- has an anti splash design urinal and rimless toilet bowl
- a lot of light
- is not too large, I only want to clean as many rooms as I will actually use
- zen yard with Irish moss and rocks and trees, for zero mowing

That would be that and you can probably see where some of my frustrations lie with the old trailer that we rent now until we can save up for our home, we just don't want to invest into what isn't ours to fix some of these things.

Other components of a dream home, but not priority like the above, just a dream:
- doorless Roman walk in shower with mosaic
- a giant cat wall as the centerpiece of the living room: wall of artificial moss with driftwood natural shelves protruding from the wall for the cats like an elven tree to be climbing and chilling and a cat fountain in the bottom
- white polished concrete floors
- kitchen looks like an early 20th century bank office with sink faking it as a washstand wall fountain and fridge looking like safe, all appliances hidden in cabinets, elegant wall sconces... I am not into kitchen-y look and would enjoy hiding the kitchen and confusing visitors
- window nook for reading

People now make decorative drinking water fountains for cats out of porcelain/glazed ceramic. Fountains have been popular for a while but most of them are plastic which isn't hygienic. I will definitely get one like below in the future. There are many designs, they look something like this:

It's part of my logic, if you're going to look at it daily make it look good and enjoy it in your living room. Same goes for cat shelving they have to climb and I'm going to make it look really good one day

interesting.
I have a bird bath outside but no fountain. The cat jumped on one of them and it broke.
Do you need to plug it in or does it have batteries?

I am absolutely living in my dream home. I live out in the country, on a sloped yard, surrounded by trees, can't see my neighbors houses, except in winter, and yet, the neighbors are still friendly. There are woodpeckers, Carolina Wrens, Eastern Towhees, and other birds I'm still trying to figure out, deer, raccoon, (yikes), a few snakes here and there. There are things I would like to do here that are on my dream list, like build a small bridge over the creek, put a she-shed tree house up in the woods on the hill, more landscaping, finishing the basement, a screened in porch... but to be honest, I already super happy. God was so kind to find this place for me.

A tree house in the redwood forest with the Pacific Ocean not far from the door.
That looks dangerous, imagine you are swimming, get drunk and fall over the side.
I would say the house i live in is good enough. Its got space, rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, i have lived in it 12 years now. Its a fair price and even has an extra room for guests. If i lived in a shack in heaven i would be happy.

mmm why would you get drunk?
Even if you werent drunk you could fall out of the tree I suppose.

there are companies that build treehouses I found out, and I think they make sure they are built safely. Apparently you dont need building consent for a treehouse though, as they are regarded as temporary dwellings.
