Everyone by now knows my avatar, it's my girl. :) I got her 6 years ago, it was not what I expected at all but.... I will tell you MY story about how God just CHANGED my life with Pid entering it a little later :)
_____________

So, please, tell us all, miladies and my dudes, :D about your girl (or boy ) that changed your singleness .

How did you get your pet ?

Did your pet help you change your life ?

Was the time you got a pet a time that you saw God moving in your life ? What changed ? Good or bad change? How did you react ?

And, you can tell a childhood story of when you had a pet that has since died :( or one you have now :) or tell a story of how God used a pet dying to change your life.

_______
Ok, I guess, that's all the questions I will pose. God bless you, my peeps/ Hope and pray you are having a fantastic day / evening, wherever you are in the world, living your life for Lord Jesus :)

I have a black short hair cat called Pedro. I named him after the Pedro in 'Napoleon Dynamite'. Shortly after my mom seperated from her now ex husband, she allowed her ex to keep the family cat (called Alf, named after the puppet Alf) who I was the closest too which really hurt, but I had no choice over since I was at college at the time. Thing is, that cat helpd raise our dog which is a fox terrier. So we had Alf a number of years then we bought our foxy puppy home and she instantly started snuggling up to the cat Alf. She also toilet trained herself by observing the cat (dig a hole, do her business then cover it up). So when my mom's ex took Alf, we noticed our aging fox terrier go through a bit of a depression. She just looked mopey and sad all the time since she was all alone. Since Alf was a black oriental siamese cat, I suggested we look for another black cat for her to snuggle with. And thats where Pedro came in. Except that plan backfired cos the dog knew the new kitten wasn't Alf and it took a few years before the two of them could even politely walk near each other. And the dog has aged and prefers to sleep on the couch and get chubby, whereas Pedro being a young cat spends 90% of the time being outside hunting birds etc and only comes in to eat really.

I only have one dog now (my female husky passed away last month). He just turned 7 last Christmas. He's a rescued dog a friend found wandering the streets. She emailed his picture to me and I fell in love with him.

When I took him to the vet, the vet said he was a six month old full-blooded softcoated wheaten terrier. No chip. No collar/tags. Nothing. I kept watching the paper and checking with the animal shelter. No one ever reported him missing.

I've had/trained a lot of dogs. Even a K-9 when I was a cop. He is the smartest, spunkiest little guy I've ever seen and he has my heart. :)

How did you get your pet ?
One of my pets, shown, the gray cat named Trax. I had thought about getting a cat, but wasn't
sure if I should. So I told the Lord, if you think I should have a cat, You will have to give me one.
That I wouldn't go looking for one. And that it will have to be a kitten, a gray kitten.
I was very specific with the Lord. Well,.....the place I was working, had a female calico cat stray
show up. The owner of the shop's wife, started feeding the cat, and it stayed.
The female cat had no gray on her at all. But, 4 months later, she gave birth to a short hair
gray cat, a long hair gray cat, a short hair gray/white cat, and a long hair gray/white cat.
What could I say? He gave me 4 to choose from. I took the two gray cats home.

Cassie, my boxer mix, is especially dear to me. The shelter workers found her wandering around a busy city, scared to death. We adopted her after a quick visit. We thought our other dog was lonely since our older dog had just passed- little did we know he would soon pass on too.

As I started to train her, I saw a glint in her eye, but some things bothered me. I think she was abused, based by how she acts around strangers, how she flinches and it pains me to think about it. She was just a pup when we found her- how can someone abuse a dog, a Puppy? How?

Her loyalty... When I got home from school on one particular day about a half a year back, I was so frustrated and stressed out that I just sat down on my kitchen floor and cried. Cassie quietly came up and sat next to me, which is odd because she never sits still when she isn't sleeping. I pet her until I was calm again, and then got back up again.

Right now, Cass is sleeping peacefully next to me, curled up in a ball. I sometimes wake up with her droopy face on mine (thank goodness she doesn't drool..). I've developed such a close friendship with this happy pup, and I often thank God for the opportunity to know her and care for her. I've never bonded this closely with a dog before, even though I love dogs!

Caring for animals has softened me, I think in times when I otherwise would have come out more bitter. I look at how simply a dog lives, and how enduring their spirits are. They inspire me, and I've no doubt that God has used them to move me in incredible ways.
___________

A childhood story.. you asked for it GreenNn, see I'm a story teller :D . So here goes. Gracie, she was my second dog, a brindle greyhound. My family had just learned about the need for greyhounds to be rescued from the tracks when we got her. That taught me a bit about injustice- how they keep the dogs at a weight that's OK, but that if a friend of yours had a dog at the same weight, you would worry they were abusing the poor thing. How the dogs were in cages most of the day, besides the 2 minutes of running on the track. I saw some trainers tug the dogs around by their ears- some greys have ear sensitivity because of this.

We wanted a greyhound and searched for months, until we say Grace. She chose us at a "meet and greet" for adoptable dogs at a pet store. I loved her right away, and told my parents as much. Grace was special- the perfect dog.

We would bring her in as a therapy dog to a nursing home. She loved all other dogs and people, of all ages. She was used as a spokesdog for our group.

When we learned that Gracie was dying, we were shocked, but knew that she was in pain (kidney disease). It was actually the same thing that my grandfather died of, which was freaky for my mother.

I opted to stay in the room when they did it. She seemed to KNOW- she gave me this look, and I whispered her nickname, and told her that I loved her very much. I was maybe 14 years old, and now go in to "say goodbye" to all of my canine friends. She gave me the strength that I needed, after giving me such a selfless love and affection for 6 happy years.

That's sad, sorry your Husky passed away:( But God always makes things right, when one door closes, God opens another. It is , of course, our job to go in :)

I am leery of picking up stray dogs because they can have a lot wrong with them, I would prefer getting a dog that was with shots and age doesn't matter, but, yeah, that's my feelings on that, green feelings, of course :D

Cool, K-9, I best you've seen that Jim Belushi movie of the same 'K' name. One of my favorite movies is Turner & Hooch. I sooooo * SPOILER ALER T !! cried at the end of the movie when Hooch saved Tom Hank's life, jumping in front of the bullet :( I don't cry that often, I can just about count the # of times I cried in movies, I am MAN , not woman, LOL. Not being toooo chauvinistic I hope and pray, miladies, but , yeah, K-9 training, that is coo , julieannie :)

Awww,CC, your older cat, Alf, trained your puppy to bury its poopy. How cute . I so wish someone would have taught Pid (my dog) to do that :D

If I could think of one word to describe your gray cat , Trax, it would be 'regal.'

That Trax looks like he rules the roost. Smug as a bug in a rug or a king on the throne, or , a dog with a big ole bone :D

Amen. I think we all need to hear great providential stories of God providing for us in great ways what we want and blessing us as we follow His timing for that happening, traxxer. . That can go for getting a significant other added to your life, keep in mind, miladies, and, my dudes :)

God answers prayers !!! Be specific, but then do things as He leads you and HAVE faith that it will happen without thinking YOU know when it will happen. Why even try? You don't know? As Ugly said in another thread of late, I paraphrase, Do you really want to do things on your own? What ever good has come of our doing things on our own without God ?

I mean, me speaking now, just ask Jonah how He feels about doing His own thing when God gave Him specific instruction, not that you are getting specific instruction, but, I think, IF you are getting NO instruction to date (or get to know since a lot think 'dating' is taboo, just be friends) a girl or guy, then that is pretty specific isn't it ? :D

It must be His timing for you, He knows best. He knows us BETTER than we know ourselves :)

You work at a shelter for a paying job?

Don't tell too many guys that IF you want to stay single much longer. A lot of good God guys will REALLY like that trait in a girl , BeEverGreeen :)

But , yeah, a boxer, I knew a boxer once, WOW! , that dog it must have been a rubber ball in it's past life :D ,l the way it BOUNCED off the walls, almost speaking literally. But, yeah, what a hyper, hyper, hyper animal , it was purebread, maybe your 'mix' other half is like beagle and that would slow it down considerably :D

Ohh, abused puppy, yeah, can't even think the thought but give that straight to God and I move on, the pictures I see on tv of abused animals I can't even stand to watch, horrible !!!

Yes, cassie, curled up next to you... Usually Piddy goes to sleep at the foot of the bed but by morning time she is sleeping right up alongside me, literally, breathing on my neck a lot of times. The times she is at the foot of the bed at night and then at morning is when I forget to play with her enough that day or forget to give her a bisquit before bedtime . Dogs are soooo human :D

Its genuis when you think about it, and I plan to do it again when my husband and I can afford pets. We will get a boy and a girl cat, preferably from the same litter or easily play with one another. Have the cats for a couple of years and let them build up their "cat territory" and get confidence as the animals of the home. Then introduce a young puppy (I plan to get another foxy or jack russel) and make the puppy dependant on the cats socially.

The downside we found out about this, was that our fox terrier and Siamese cat were ehem.. inter-species dating each other. They werent just snuggle pals, they were bed fellows. More embarrassing when we had company over and the dog decides to rape the cat in full view of everyone. Even more disturbing was that the cat didn't seem to mind. LOL

Actually, I work will rescuing greyhounds just for fun :D . Though I would love to work in a shelter. Aw, thank you GreenNn! I really hope to find a guy who loves dogs as much as I do one day.

:p I swear, they are the most hyper dogs. We didn't have a big enough home and yard to get her tuckered out every day, until recently- I'll tell ya, they are much happier when tired!

D'AWWWWW, Piddy knows when she isn't getting all the treats you owe her :D . They own US sometimes, in a lot of ways.

3 critters in my house, 2 cats and a dog. One cat I got shortly after I had to put an older cat down, a neighbor called me up and invited me over...she had 2 kittens in her living room. After I played with them a while, she told me to take whichever one I wanted.

My second cat was given to me by my ex-fiance right after I had to put my other older cat down.

My dog likewise was given by my ex-fiance....she knew I loved dogs, but I guess she never understood why I never had one. Believe me I love my dog, but at times my long work hours keep me away too long and he gets neglected. Cats are a little more tolerant of their people being away.

My husky was a rescued dog too. We're not sure how old she was. She passed away while I was at work. It must have been very sudden, because she showed no signs of being ill.

My K9 had to be put down at 7 due to her hips being displaced. It paralyzed her and she couldn't breathe. Common thing in german shepherds. I found her in the backyard barely breathing. Another officer came and helped me. My heart was absolutely broken as I know without question that I wouldn't be here today if it hadn't been for her. People have no idea the work those dogs do. <3

OnceFell, you have a good heart, helping out your ex-fiance.
Nah, don't worry about your dog, he is fine and just that much happier to see you when you get home. I have to sometimes leave Piddy for the day, but mostly she rides on my lap in my truck wherever I go. People say it is funny sometimes because it looks like she is driving :D

This was sad I am sure , julieannie, I try not to think about things like that, Piddy is 6, I pray God gives her many years of happy life and, then, I am OK with her dying because I saw the movie, All Dogs Go To Heaven :)
Sigh, animals are so much neatness from God, from birth to death. I cried hours on end when my cat, whom I had from age 9 to 19 died, I was away too at college when he died, a big black most loveable of all furballs, just LOVED that cat. It gave me head butts, just like a billy goat,or 2 rams squaring off.
Amazing personality, my cat :) A snuggler of all snugglers too.

This made me sad too, BeEverGreeen . But, yes, animals know. They just know. They know when they are going to be with God too , I am convinced my cat and our family dachsund growing up and other animals all will be in Heaven when I get there :) God is so good :)

Volunteering at shelter? Worse yet. YOU better watch out, milady , because volunteering for free means to a good God guy that you do that stuff for motivational reasons beyond reason, like money . Neat to hear. I have a great appreciation for those that raise animals, like my cousin who raised a horse from age 9, I know my sister's friend too who raised rabbits and horses. Great gifts, BE. :)
-------------
Yes, the animals God gives us, and, I have not forgot, I will tell you all my story of Piddy being blessed into my life, and, other stuff, but not this moment. 'A little later,' still, but, yes, the animals God gives us, peeps, teach us so much about everything in life. Like you said, julieannie, of your k-9 saving your life (maybe tell us how) but I know Piddy became so important to mine, just she became so important to me, right after God :)

I had just moved to another city. We were the first in our family to move away from our tiny town. Shortly after we moved we got a beautiful kitten from our neighbors. He was a smoky colored Siamese kitten with glassy blue eyes. He was more like a dog. He was so affectionate. He made the rounds every night. He would fall asleep on my shoulder. Somewhere in the night he would bounce into my brothers room and lay down at his feet. By morning he would be in bed with my mom. Kazpurr was the best kitty ever. He would hide under the love seat and grasp at anything that passed by. He also loved to climb trees but could never figure out how to get down. He would leave during the day and we would call him in at night. One day we left for the grocery store and when we returned our neighbor jessee brought him down. He had been attacked by two very large dogs. Jessee kicked the dogs do the stairs and grabbed Kazpurr. When we got to Kazpurr just purred in pain. He was bleeding and he wouldnt move. He laid there for hours in pain. Finally my
Mom said let's pray for him. This was before I knew
the Lord, but I'd been raised in the church so I knew somethings. Withall my 11 yrs of wisdom I prayed for my kitty. Five minutes later Kazpurr stood up stretched out and started romping around.
Later when he died, the only pictures we had of him were his little white booted paws reaching out from under the loveseat.

Good ole, Kazpurr, and, I love the name, it reminds me of a comic I read growing up , Casper The Friendly Ghost, that cat defined '9 lives' for cats. :)

Did Kaz die from the wounds suffered in dogfight eventually or unrelated? I know you prayed and got better but how die I guess I'm asking.

Lots of laughs, Jordy, I liked the part about white paws coming out from under couch, and, I too had a cat I got in early 20s that would attack anyones feet frrom under a couch, good ole Krazzy :)
Prayed over poor hurt Kaz. Awesome ! 5 minutes later , Kaz felt better. God answers prayer . :)

I have 3 dogs: Napoleon(we call him Napo), Bobby, and Rocky. Napo is the oldest and fattest of the 3 :) an uncle gave him to us when he was a puppy and all of his brothers died eventually due to sickness, he was the only survivor. He is a mutt but he is very cute! he has green eyes and a pink nose that I love :) When he was 1 year old he got lost....and we looked for him for about 1 month, we then came to the conclusion that he wouldn't come back so my parents bought me and my brother 2 dogs : Bobby and Rocky, two cute french poodles.
After one month with Bobby and Rocky a neighbor came to our house to tell us that his sister had seen Napo in a computers' store. We drove there with little hope and found out that it was true! Napo had been hit by a car and the good lady owner of the store had dragged him to the sidewalk and took him home with her where she cured him :). Napo came back to us and now we have 3 dogs hahaha. I love my 3 old babies <3

I have had cats and dogs since i was a child, all of them were bought except one cat that arrived to my home jumping from house to house, his hair was white, black and gray, he was very little of age and when i saw him in a tree seeing me i knew that he was going to be my "son" lol , but he was used to be in the street so he didnt let anybody else of my family be with him because he scared or run or become agressive, but with me he was very nice all the time. He spent many years living in my house and then he left one day, i think he may arrived to another house.

Napo seems like a cat, kayM... hit by a car and lived through it and then someone cared for him after to keep him from dying (sounds like you said that, 'cured') . Hmm, that's at least two lives exhumed, I'd say , :D . And, 'green eyes,' I bet that Napo is one handsome hunk, milady :D

Not yet am I saying it, I am tooo busy commenting on all miladies' stories and mydu, well, you're NOT my dudes :D , my Christ bros' , doesn't that sound better, gents :) Anyway, yeah, 'lost,' my story of Piddy will definitely have 'lost' in it too. I promise I will still tell you all , the Lord leads. Piddy goes to vet tomorrow, she got worms and blood in stools :(

your funny, lizzytheone, ' arrived to my home jumping from house to house.' That sounds like Spiderman jumping from rooftop to rooftop :D

Yeah, your 'son,' God planned all that, He knew that that nameless cat was meant for you and nobody else but you, milady . Speaks of God's fineness to each of our lives, the individualness of us all and what He does for one is unique and planned uniquely for His glory, and, your blessing :)
