I play videogames. I also Play magic the gathering and Dungeons and dragons and people say that this is part of being a bad christian. I belive that that isn't true. It apperently has to do with "spellcasting" and "magic is evil" but the chronicles of Narnia is supposed okay to watch and it is filled with magic. I also along with my youth pastor Play Diablo 3 which you in fact Kill Diablo which Means Devil. so Is that sac religious? because I don't see a problem with it.

Personally I try to avoid stuff that involve witchcraft and things of that nature. I actually see a lot of bad things in the Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the rings, and movies like that. I'm actually surprised that so many Christians think those movies are perfectly fine. They may have somewhat of a "Christian theme" to them but there are some very unchristian things about those movies.

Basically what it comes down to though is what does your conscience say to you? If Jesus what sitting on the couch right next to you would you still play those games? Would you ask him to pick up a controller and play with you?

Jesus never judged a person's actions, but he always challenges them in better ways to serve him, serve others, and use your time wisely. I would say it isn't wrong, but if He challenges you to spend your time doing something more productive for him and you ignore Him because of it- then it could be wrong.

Narnia was written by CS Lewis, a VERY Christian writer, as an allegory to Jesus and several other stories in the Bible.

Also, I don't think playing a video game with magic in it is anything similar to actually using magic in real life. That's like reading Harry Potter and suddenly being a wizard...

While many Christians will read Harry Potter and not be a wizard, I don't think it's a stretch to say that imagining having powers granted by demons (witchcraft of any sort) is a sin. Also, after the Harry Potter series was released in Europe schools of witchcraft started showing up all over, because of the sudden interest in the occult. Literature does have huge impacts on the human mind and consequently spirit. And as we all know, that is where our battle takes place. We see the impact literature has on societies all throughout history, to the point of changing public opinion, public policies, and cultural norms. Societies change for better or worse. Was playing games with demons a normal occurance six, seven decades ago? No, of course not, it wouldn't have sold except to the darkest corner of New Orleans. After a slow progression of evil seeping into everyday living, American society is drifting into deeper and deeper depravity.

The Bible says shun the appearance of evil. Christians and witchcraft have no place with each other because we are to take our power from the Spirits of Light, not the Kingdom of Darkness.

Let me ask you, young man, why did you ask this question? Follow the Lord's leading in your life always if you have a doubt and you can't regret it. Making a stand for God, even if it may seem small, is significant if it is done out of a sincere love for obeying God's voice in your life.

we are to avoid all appearances of evil, the path is narrow and few will find it. You can't act out witchcraft and magic in a game without there being a spirit at work, I was addicted to playing World of Warcraft at one time, and had to stop, and renounce it, there was defiantly a spirit at work, and scripture is our final authority, not what we "think" or doing it just because someone else thinks it is ok to do. I hope that helps. And remember what the scriptures say about trusting our selves or leaning on our own understanding, which we aren't supposed to do, the heart is wicked. <3

no you are not a bad Christian.
you have to remember to always follow Jesus.

whatever we watch taints our soul and that taint can leave an impact on us.
Luke 11: 33 Lamp of the Body
Jesus talks about your eyes are the lamp of your body, if the eyes are clean the body will be clean. If so the lamp is healthy the body will be full of darkness.

So basically just try to really avoid the stuff that can talk about evil or against God. Mostly all these scary movies, or a movie like Anti Christ. or anything sexual. These things can lead the body to sin or temptation.

You playing the game is good but try not to make it an addiction.
The devil owns this world and he'll keep sending his demons to temp people so people will condemn themselves.

People actually get hooked and addicted on games such as World of Warcraft. And if anyone gets an addict for anything, that means there's a demon lurking around them that constantly temps them.

now that i'm spiritually connected with Jesus, I'm wondering to myself. Because ID software just announced DOOM 3 BFG edition. I don't even know if I should play it or not. I want to avoid anything to do with evil. Because who knows how much evil messages and satanic stuff are in the game.

You can play games but try to make your soul clean by reading bible, praying and following God. Man does not live by bread alone. So we can also say man does not live by games alone:)
i love video games man.

@ShiningLight
that is actually one of the EMBARRASSING thing, because whatever we are doing Jesus is watching:/
guess he's the big brother:p

You are no a bad christian for playing video games. Tho there are alot of other ways you can minister out to other people and talk to them its ok to have fun every once in awhile but yet you dont need to be playing video games all the time. There are other things that you should do.

Well, on the whole Narnia thing...you don't see the people that are on Aslan's side use magic. They actually depend on Aslan for help. The only people that use magic are those who are against Aslan. So honestly it's not really encouraging people to use magic. In a way it sort of actually discourages it. C.S. Lewis actually wrote those books to expose the dangers of magic use and the dangers of the occult...not once in the Chronicles of Narnia series do you see magic being used and the end results coming out very good.

Lord of the Rings, I can't say as much about that. I haven't really seen the Christian side to it. I think maybe one of these days when I find the time to, I'm gonna read the book series and watch the movies again. See what kind of Christian values I CAN find in it.

Nothing is wrong with playing video games. I play a lot of them myself. I play Call of Duty, Battlefield, Harry Potter, LOTR, FIFA etc.

Dude, I like to read the Harry Potter books and watch the films. The same with Narnia.

Narnia was written by C.S Lewis. He was a Christian. Although the entire series is full of magic, just like Harry Potter, Lewis made it look more Christian-like by making Aslan look like Jesus.

J.K Rowling done the same with the Harry Potter series. She stated that the books contain Christian themes. I can see them. She even had Harry experience some stuff that Jesus had went through. She also made him a sinner.

Playing video games does not make you a bad Christian. There are some things that do make you a bad Christian, but video games is not one of them.

Way to make me sound like I'm a fool of the world.
what if I'm looking at him through God's eyes? you really don't know how I judge my perception of "cool".
But yes, valid point.

I wasnt trying to make you sound like a fool. I was just making a general statement that wasn't necessarily just directed at you, that's why I didn't quote your post.

Maybe one day I will have to watch Narnia again. I have only seen it once, and I missed some of it. I'm more familiar with Lord of the rings and I stand strong against that movie as far as being Christian friendly.

I think there are far worse things one can do as a Christian than that.

BUT, it depends on your priorities:

Do you spend a lot of your time on theese things?
Would you rather play Diablo than read the bible / go to chuech / pray etc ?
Does it agitate you/ draw you into the game?

If so, it is indeed bad for you.

As for "making you a bad Christian", we all are bad by Gods standards, the secret is to realize when you do wrong, stop doing what is wrong, and then not let the devil tell you any lies about you not being worthy. Jesus came for the sinners, not the "perfect",

Keep in mind:

Whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I think sometimes, you have to talk to God about these issues. God will convict you if something you are doing is wrong or against His rules.

Playing magic the gathering is not a sin and is not wrong. It is a card game, playing the game doesn't make you want use magic in reali life and it doesn't represent that, I used to play it all the time, it's fun and nothing wrong with it. I still have about 3000 cards, don't use them anymore. People who say this is. Ring a bad christian don't know much at all. Trying to be a witch and trying to cast spells or score dries in real life even thoug you cant in real life is evil if you do it in real life. In mafic the gathering it is nothing like that and not real but cards.

Umm... Just because there are evil beings in a movie, doesn't make the movie evil or bad. Lord of the rings is not christian but is not wrong to watch. Narnia is a christian movie, written by a christian, it is not fully but a part analogy.
