Psst,Jules, Mrdll wasn't saying it was wrong to carry or use a gun.

I know that. :) And I completely agree with him. My rheorital question was directed to those who disagreed with him. :)

At some point this just gets a little silly. I've seen people killed with ink pens and meat forks. Samson killed people with a animal jawbone. A woman in scripture used a tent stake. If someone wants to kill someone, they will find a way. A gun is simply a tool like any other tool.

P.S. - A lot of people go for the shoot to wound thing. I've seen it so many times. And they are nervous. And they are untrained. And they miss. And the bad guys get their weapons and use them against them.

Ideally, there would be no violence.
However.
We do not live in an ideal world.

God's answer is grace.
Grace covers a multitude of sins.

A stand for righteousness in a fallen world sometimes means acting in a way that assaults the sensibilities of rational people. And yet, it is still the right thing to do in the situation.

"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." – Winston Churchill

"War is always abhorrent and sometimes necessary."
One of my favorite quotes, Cheeky.

MRDLL: So that there is no confusion at all, I completely agree with your stance regarding self-defense and protecting others. :) My comments about the army/cops being unchristian and my question about Peter's sword were direct at those who have never looked down the barrel of a gun as apparently you and I have, Sir. :)

Sorry about the misconfusion, Jules.

I honestly don't believe Jesus would carry a fire arm. While Jesus always turned the other cheek when he was being assaulted, physically or verbally (remember Gethsemane), Jesus was quick to come to the defense of His disciples during His ministry on earth however, those confrontations did not involve violence so no one can honestly determine whether or not Jesus would have come to the aid of a Disciple who was physically being man-handled.

This thread is still going? Since carrying a gun is just like carrying a sword around, what the OP is really asking is: would Jesus use a gun against a human. In my opinion, probably not. Of all the things He could do to defend himself, He probably would not resort to human weaponry. The Bible teaches us that most of the time Jesus relied on his wits when someone confronted him. The truth is, He has the power to change the hearts of men long before they confront Him. Let us recall He is the alpha and omega, and the Trinity is an omnipotent entity.

Now, since this thread has evolved into 'should Christians use guns' and 'is it ok for Christians to kill another human'. The answer varies depending on the individuals morals. As Julianna pointed out, there are many Christians involved in the military and paramilitary world. If there weren't, this world would be A LOT more messed up than it is. In a perfect world we wouldn't need weapons, but this isn't a perfect world. There is a difference between killing and murder.

A gun is just a tool. If you sit in a room staring at a loaded gun all day, it's not going to miraculously launch a projectile at you. Such an event would require human intervention.

Maybe we should get rid of motor vehicles? I mean, that would end all of the high speed drunk driving incidents, right? /End sarcasm

what they didnt teach you in school is that the revolution was about separation of church and state more than taxation... it also does not teach that at George Washington's annogeration her declared that day the nation day of prayer and they left the office and walked across the street to the church and prayed as a nations government. first amendment freedom of religion. think about it brother man.

Yes b/c Jesus told his disciples to buy swords to defend themselves.....

Luke 22:36

[h=3]Supplies for the Road[/h]35 And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”
So they said, “Nothing.”
36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.37 For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’[d] For the things concerning Me have an end.”
38 So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”
And He said to them, “It is enough.”

I'd like to say yes, but I wholeheartedly believe that he wouldn't.

He preached that dying for one's friend was one of the greatest things man could do.

If Jesus preached love then I believe that he'd willingly die for it again -- with no gun.

I can't picture Jesus packing heat... The entire idea just seems absurd to me.
