The Antichrist is also called "the Beast", "the Man of Sin", "the Son of Perdition", "the Little Horn" (and several other titles). Therefore there is no mistaking the Antichrist as being an individual. He -- an individual -- sits in the future temple at Jerusalem claiming to be God. Therefore substituting the pope or the papacy for the MIRACLE WORKING Jewish Antichrist is sheer folly.

It is not folly to do so, for this reason: When Paul says, "...that the MAN OF GOD may he perfect..." is Paul referring to just one man, or many men?

When God said, "When Israel was a child I loved him and out of Egypt I called my son..." is God referring to a single person or an entire nation? What about "Esau" or "Moab" which are singular but used to refer to hundreds of thousands/millions of people?

I could keep you busy all day with such examples, so please stop attributing "folly" to a what is a well established Biblical precedent of referring to entire nations and kingdoms in the singular.

Orthodox Jews are presently anticipating the coming of their "true Messiah". Since they have rejected Christ as their true Messiah, they will be welcoming a false Jewish Messiah, coming in his own name. The identity of the antichrist has no bearing on the timing of the gathering of the church. It is after the gathering of the church that the first seal will be opened which is represented by that rider on the white horse, the antichrist.

Regarding the pope being the antichrist, you are close, but I lean towards one of the future popes as playing the part of the second beast who is the false prophet. The pope of that time will be the one who will perform those miracles, signs and wonders on behalf of the first beast which is the anitchrist and will also be the head of that one world religious system. The purpose of the miralces, signs and wonders will be to deceive the inhabitants of the earth and to support the antichrist who will be proclaiming himself to be God or anything that is called God.

No. But anyone who thinks they can take the place of Jesus and demand that I seek the intercession of a sinful priest for forgiveness, who tells me that Jesus' death has nothing to do with my obtaining salvation, but only to do with lessening my time in Purgatory...well, that's a whole other kettle of fish.
