I believe in freedom of speech to the point of someone promoting evil or profanity..

Flat earthers are a weird bunch but they are not promoting evil or profanity... So i do not support the suppression of their free speech..

We have rules that say Catholics are not Christian? (I'm not Catholic, I'm just curious about that.)

Well i support that rule. catholics are not Christans.. But i do not believe in banning catholics, some may be saved from that false religion by engaging in discussions with Christians in CC..

Then half the threads on this site should be removed. This site consists of mostly opinion.

Actually one of the biggest complaints I see non-Christian make about the site is the restrictions. So furthering restrictions would increase isolation.

I see posts by Catholics against protestants.
See posts by protestants that say Catholics are Christians.
Posts by Christians saying Catholics aren't Christians.
Posts Christians saying once saved always saved.
Posts saying the opposite.
Posts for the law.
Posts against the law.
Posts for too much grace.
Posts for not enough grace.
For the gifts.
That the gifts have ended.
For prosperity gospel.
Posts against it
Posts arguing about what a word translated from the original Greek.
Posts calling others heretics, non-Christian, unsaved.
Name calling. Spite. Anger. Resentment. Bitterness. Selfishness. Callousness. Arrogance. Religious.
So no, when I think about what a non-Christian might conclude about God or Christians from this site, that we have a minority of conspiracy theorists is not high on my list of things that make us look bad.

My suggestion was not to restrict legitimate or quasi-legitimate disagreements, nor things that are controversial, just one subject that is blatant foolishness - FENS.

I feel that it is the same as arguing whether or not one can get to Peter Pan's Never-Never Land. It is obviously a fairy tale to any rational human being. Those who believe it, or at least, pretend to believe it, would not contribute to the value of this site no matter strongly they attacked the "truthers".

My primary reason (though I did not make it clear) was that seekers can easily discredit everything on the website because of the FENS.

I am dubious that those so deluded will benefit from anything we say, and there is no reason to provide a forum for the trolls who are either emotionally unstable, or have an agenda to discredit Christians with such FENS.

The fundamental question I would like to ask is, "How many sincere seekers are turning from the website because of the FENS?" If none, then no worries. I have nothing more to say.

But under what conditions can discussing FENS lead a person closer to the gospel of Jesus Christ? Is anyone actually benefiting from the FENS, or is it a waste of time and space?

These questions to myself were my motivation for asking the question. But if you or anyone else reads post #19, they will see that I have conceded the point.

"I hereby concede that restricting the "Flat Earth Non-Sense" (FENS) from CC is not the correct thing to do at the moment."

i totally get that, and it's one of the primary reasons that i am so involved in those threads destroying their arguments. There may be some benefit - i have seen unbelievers make such comments in other contexts - to it being displayed to the world that there are intelligent Christians, not naive, educated and thoughtful, who reject such nonsense and actively oppose it.

That was a typo, should be plain.
...as in plains of Africa
Rev 20:9
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God's people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them.

And they marched across the broad expanse of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and consumed them.

4114~Platos
STRONGS NT 4114: πλάτοςπλάτος, πλάτους, τό ((cf. πλάξ), from Herodotus down), breadth: Ephesians 3:18 (on which see μῆκος); Revelation 21:16; carrying with it the suggestion of great extent, τῆςγῆς, opposed to the ends or corners of the earth, Revelation 20:9; (for מֶרְחָב, Habakkuk 1:6).
______________
Also...Isiah new the difference between circle and ball. Are you familiar with those verses that show it?

A geographic plain is defined as an unobstructed section of land that, while being somewhat elevated above sea level, is relatively flat.

I vote we let the flat earth threads be for the same reason we keep little kittens around. They are cute, amusing and they might grow up some day if they survive. =^.^=

Earnest, we have a conspiracy forum for a reason. All sorts of quackery goes on in there, flat earthiness falls under the same category IMO so long it is contained within the conspiracy forum. Someone recently tried dragging it out into BDF, I quickly pointed out there are flat earth threads in here.

so this doesn't mean in any sense whatsoever that the earth is a pancake and the universe is a snowglobe.

it means that there is clear, "relatively flat" land in places on the earth.

The "flat earth" threads are highly entertaining... leave them alone.

Besides... we don't need to curtail speech about every little thing.
The WORST thing a flat earther ever did to me was make me giggle during my morning coffee.
