no because God made us and He doesn't make mediocre.....

Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

how can I do a reality check to make sure that I am not slipping into mediocrity?
Thanks for your thoughts.
1. do you pray and thank God every day for the many blessing He has given you?

2. Do you pray and listen to God as He guides you to do good works for the glory of His name?

3. How do you spend most of your time and resources? Do you spend it worrying about if YOU are good enough or do you use to finding ways to help others know the love of GOD?

There are others, but if you can answer YES to those three, then most likely you have God's peace and joy in your heart and are lead by His Holy Spirit and how can anyone who is guided by God be mediocre?

Its not about how YOU see yourself but how GOD sees you.

If you are really going to be honest, you will have to admit that unbelief plays a role and always has. Can God save any soul unless that does not believe and trust in what Christ did on the cross? It is evidence in how we pray and many times we ask amiss according to James 4:3, and should that man think he should receive anything from the Lord? We like to add to our prayer for the sick things like, 'If it be thy will, heal this person of this affliction.' or ' if it's not thy will then teach them what you have for them in their sickness and time of need.' Wouldn't you say that there is some unbelief in those types of add ons? I do. Jesus was continually asking others 'Do you believe', 'What would you have me to do, do you believe.' He discouraged the woman from Canaan, who had brought her daughter greviously vexed with a devil in Matthew 15:22. But our Lord made some interesting statements that I do not think that we should ignore, especially in verse 28. He saw the faith of the mother and her daughter was made whole. Do we trust in the living God to do these things or do we have doctrinal issues that stop us from believing in the living God, who is immutable and changes not? Do we cry out for others or do they have to cry out for themselves? The womans' daughter was healed because of her faith in Christ, not the daughter's. Don't you think that is interesting as well as what took place in Mark 9:17-29? Perhaps some just don't want to believe God for the impossible or the supernatural, that could be the reason.
It seems to all boil down to either you believe or you don't, and if one doubts then they do not belief as of yet, I ahve no doubt about Christ and who Chrost is and what Christ has done for all those that will believe Thanks sister

What you say is true Ariel, however we are not talking about creation, we are talking about spiritual condition. Do you not see a difference? Could it be possible to be a Christian who is struggling with His relationship with the Lord (by refusing to give up some of the worldly mammon?) and is it possible to be a Christian living in a very close and loving, obedient relationship with the Lord?

I think both if one does belong to the Lord for that one that is mediocre will be carried through to completion by God
we are told many times to work out our salvation with fear and trembling and never really seeing the verse right after this one that says, first we here this and not the verse after phil.2:12
Philippians 2:12Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Philippians 2:13For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

so if one will stop and start trust in what God just said in Phil. 2:13, then I do not think we will be mediocre.

It is my understanding that you think this completion is fully obtained in this life time. I believe Christ is working in us toward this completion now, but will not be fully obtained until our physical death and our bodies will not be made completely whole or incorruptible until our resurrection. Therefore, our discussion won't led us anywhere but to agree to disagree.

My point is people spend too much time focusing on if they are "good enough" instead of focusing on what God has already done and what GOD wants them too do.

My point was GOD has made you, it doesn't matter if you are consider "mediocre" by the world, God thinks you are HIS wonderful and beloved child.

My point is FOCUS on GOD and what HE wants you to do and you won't have to worry about being "mediocre."

I whole heartedly agree with you Ariel that we should be about making disciples and better disciples. However, Jesus talked this subject in His Word so why can't or shouldn't we discuss it here? After all, maybe someone may feel convicted or energized to do more, not only in evangelizing those in their own personal circle of life, in also in their personal relationship with the lover of their soul.

Mediocre Christian? Hm.. to be honest, when you say it like that, and with all the examples you gave, we're all like that. I know I was. But there is no such thing as a mediocre Christian. A Christian is someone that is nothing. They know that they're fallen. They know that they're sinners. And, they know that they need God. God is like a basic necessity. Sometimes, we don't want Him. But truthfully, we need Him. A Christian isn't perfect. If they think they are, then why need God? Christ died, to bring salvation and hope. He came for the unwanted, lost, and afraid. Not for the people that think they're perfect. No one's perfect. We all sin. It's part of life. We can't go one day without sinning. It's impossible. But, we can be sinless and righteous. Now, that's possible. I sin every single day. And until I die, I know I'll sin. I'm fallen. But, through Christ's finished work at His baptism, death and resurrection, I know I'm sinless and righteous in my spirit. The word of God says so. And I'm not going to doubt God. I've had many questions. But God had answered them. And to answer your question, you can't slip into mediocrity. You either have full faith in Christ's finished work, or have none at all. You can keep telling yourself you're saved and that you're a "Christian". But saying, it's one thing. Believing it however, is another. This is why you're doubting yourself right now. If you really believe and have Christ in you, you wouldn't doubt yourself. It's like doubting God. Because once you really have faith and believe in the gospel truth of the water, blood and spirit, all that Christ is, becomes you. Hopefully you got that. God bless, and have a good day. (Faith is like a race. You'll start fast, but eventually you'll slow down. But, if you really want to finish so badly, you'll go all the way, not caring about your obstacles.)

God bless.

Really? Just read your OT. Read the stories of Samson and Jephthah, also of David who are mentioned in the Hebrews hall of faith...There are many more I can add.
Oh....they were not FAILURES, they were DISOBEDIENCES. BIG DIFFERENCE!!! "Failure" speaks of inabIlity while "disobedience" speaks of refusal. BIG DIFFERENCE.

I don't know, sounds like that's your definition of failure. I can fail because of inability yes, but I can also fail because I chose not to obey. I think there could be several definitions. Can I fail to disobey? 1st definition below describes it as an act of not succeeding, not an inability.

fail·ure

noun 1. an act or instance of failing or proving unsuccessful; lack of success: His effort ended in failure. The campaign was a failure.

2. nonperformance of something due, required, or expected: a failure to do what one has promised; a failure to appear.

3. a subnormal quantity or quality; an insufficiency: the failure of crops.

4. deterioration or decay, especially of vigor, strength, etc.: The failure of her health made retirement necessary.

5. a condition of being bankrupt by reason of insolvency.

it is biut at the same time we are still waiting for theredemption of this dead body, and when this time comes then we will 100% complete in him, this is why I sow to the Spirt not flesh and have been taught by God how this attained here today and this can only be taught by God to you, and all the rest of his Children that beleive in him and trust in him to do this here and now. again as I have said many times if one believes right here and now that they are dead to sin (flesh) then thet are freed from law and are freed to walk in God's Spirit and have forsaken the flesh as Paul said he served God by the hidden man of his heart and the law of sin and death by flesh his flesh that is not redeemed nor ours either yet. So the only alternative while in this unredeemed body is to
[h=3]Romans 6:11[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]11 [/SUP]Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And then one is free to marry Christ here and now
Remember the allegory Paul used about the married woman is sining if her husband is alive and if she marries another
This allegory is the womans Husband is the Law and as lobg as the Law is alive in you you can't leagally marry another, but id your Husband (the Law) is dead then you are free to marry Christ ,the resurrected Christ

full growth in Christ even as one grows by Christ has no more time for sin and if one sees this and does not sin only accomplshed one day at a time by Faith then there is no room for pride, and or boastfullness
Just some food for amazing insight except some how you bought the lie about we are still aive in our flesh, so you will sin and yes Sister that is truth as long as we continue to sow (think)
Galatians 6:8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
And as Paul said it is no longer I that sin it is sin that is in my flesh that sins, that he serves the living God by the inner man the Holy Ghostof his heart, and calls for all to be dead to sinful flesh here and now. The only escape any of us have to here and now since our bodies are not redeemed as of yet, but if we are dead to flesh by belief no doubt the we are free from the body of sin and death. Now I say this is a daily practice to wake up die to flesh and believe this and thus one is alive to Spirit of God where no sin can or ever will occur. And this not for one to be proud and boastful this for thanking God via the cross where it has been completed for all that do belive
