1 Timothy 6:3-12

[SUP]3 [/SUP]If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
[SUP]4 [/SUP]He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]But godliness with contentment is great gain.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

So for those who are too busy "counting money" and for those liking such, remember the words of Pharaoh.

Exodus 5:1-12

And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
[SUP]4[/SUP]And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

...You said we waste 24/7/365 "doing something", and you expressed that during capitalism we organize a portion of that time to work. OH, HOW EVIL?!?! Oh wait, that's the same no matter what. We work roughly 7-8 hours / 5 days a week / about 260 days a year. Without capitalism, we would STILL be working just as often! Everything wonderful we take advantage of, such as the computers we type on, wouldn't even exist were it not for a system of trade, whether it be capitalism or socialism (I won't go into why capitalism is more ethical than socialism and more efficient as
I think you're assuming some other context from what I'm saying. "Spend" was not intended to mean a waste of time. You of course think I favor Socialism, assuming the usual argument. Nothing could be further from right. Capitalism may have created a lot of buzz and bells and whistles, and was necessary as you describe, but it's purpose is about spent. You would conclude I think work sucks? Hardly. The rest of my post exemplifies this. Capitalism, the ability to leverage time over the faceless masses blindly, fresh carrots on the end of a stick to keep the fresh horses running to where they can never get to by intent, then selling it like the American Dream will end suddenly, abruptly. And most all will be dismayed, likely yourself as well.

"Behold, I will do a work in your days you will not believe even though you be told of it." Watch.

Indeed! Let's get real. This is all about just who's the really smart and superior and who's the ignorantly clueless. Anything else is a façade of two-faced BS. Love holds no power here. The Bible repeatedly points out what will come. And it's not "love". Truth, Justice, Righteousness. God is love? God is everything, including the Satan THEY Created for a purpose. God forbid, eh?

There's no if about it. says clearly in 1 Timothy 6:10 "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs." or it's possible that many don't trust God to provide? who knows people's hearts and minds.

Free market. Consensual trade. The purpose of these things is non-coercion.

What does this even mean? It's a load of nonsense. You're trying to apply personality to a system to make it seem bad, when really there isn't a personality, it's a system. It's like calling a rock "happy".

fresh carrots on the end of a stick to keep the fresh horses running to where they can never get to by intent, then selling it like the American Dream will end suddenly, abruptly. And most all will be dismayed, likely yourself as well.
Idiots who don't understand economics shouldn't dabble in economics.

It's because of the free market people are able to work, DRIVE home, watch T.V., surf the internet, and sleep in a warm or cooled home according to their preference.

"Behold, I will do a work in your days you will not believe even though you be told of it." Watch.
"I'm too good to speak proper English." Dig.

People have to work to survive. The best way to do this is to have everyone work together and focus on one thing. One person can focus on making cars for other people, while another person focuses on cooking food for others. It's better for people to work and to trade than for everyone to try and do everything themselves. This is true for any market, but it works best in the capitalist market because the capitalist market allows failing businesses to fail, and successful businesses to profile.

How do we measure success and failure? It has to do with profit. Of course, we have corrupt systems that interfere. For example, the government will often take over certain programs, or fund private organizations. This is NOT capitalism, it is either socialism or corporatism (depending on whether the government takes over projects or funds private corporations).

But even in a socialist system, one in which the government takes over, people have to work.

"Dangling a carrot in front of the people" is another way of saying, "You work, you get rewarded." But here's the thing, the carrot on the end of the stick that people work for, THEY GET THE CARROT. It's not just "dangled" in front of them, it's something they obtain!

If the love of money is the root of all evil, then perhaps we can hate it and use it anyway. kind of like how we hate work but do it anyway. We need to do things and use things we hate to survive. Make sense? =P
My opinion :)

I do not believe that we must hate "it" but it is about attitude concerning "it". Within Western society, money is the means of exchange for goods deemed necessary for living and of value. Within a capitalistic (Capitalism) society money is a necessary tool; just as a carpenter need a hammer and nails to build structures. The carpenter doesn't hate the tools that are used to perform the necessary work but will care for the tools so it is available for future use. Same with money, we do not have to hate it, but we had better use it wisely.

I am fond of this Italian proverb:

"Money is a good servant, but a bad master".

MOney is a tool used by God. But many worship it. Can you ever have enough, it is just like a drug. Cause with money comes so called power.

...Since we are also told in Prov 11:1 how the Lord detests dishonest scales, this also ties together in setting up simple honesty within business.

The following verse Luke 16:10
[SUP]10 [/SUP]“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

I believe the Lord knows who to trust and bless with much in order to achieve his principle.
Amen. Totally agree. The post was a very interesting reading, MidnightWelder.

Would you agree that followers of Christ are accountable to God to be honest, not just in "business scales," but in one's overall conduct; what we say, do, teach, learn, consume, and especially in our intentions towards others? When one's overall behavior closely approaches that of Christ's example life, then we understand what dishonest scales are and how to abstain from such. :)

...I also believe that all these things tie in together with the whole storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven since any worldly wealth isnt to be stored trying to save it forever. Much of the treasures in heaven are what we do for others in showing Gods love. But treasures in heaven shouldn't be our motive neither or we just negated the whole principle.
Indeed. For some time now, I've had a hard time recognizing as a saint anyone claiming adherence to Christ, yet going about accumulating all kinds of pretty nickels to the tune of ABBA Golden Record Money, Money, Money! LOL.

Would you agree that one blessing is for God to provide a comfortable life to the saints, but another opposite affair is for a "saint" to go about intentionally accumulating material wealth to such an extent that it's ridiculously wasteful what they do with their wealth?

How exactly is one able to build treasure in heaven when one is ridiculously distracted with the perishable wealth now? Exhibit A: TV Evangelist and their fan club cheerleaders. :D

ROFL! Like yeah, until Uncle Sam gets ya' ...and taxes ya' on both banana splits. LOL.

The problem is not work but what we are working for. I would gladly work not to simply survive, but to be part of the betterment of mankind. Money is usless if you GIVE everyone what they need to survive FREELY.

A workman is worthy of his wages. Do not muzzle the ox while he is treading out the wheat. These sayings are true at all levels, positive or negative.

How is it that reasonable exchange is so frequently reduced to the ridiculous?
Give glory to our Father in His Only Begotten Son.

You will always have people that will exalt themselves over others to do less but have more...

Our only Hope is:

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
While the people prefer the darkness and reject the Light, they will self destruct chasing something that was a lie from the beginning.

You do understand that people need to be paid, right?

Let's take something such as energy. You get free energy! This energy comes from a factory. Of course, the people working at this factory aren't going to work for free, so they need to be rewarded in some way, such as cash. So where do we get this cash to pay them? From the employer? Can't be, because where would the employer get their cash? From the government? But then the government would have to pay people with the taxes they collect, which means the energy was never free.

It's not as simple as you want it to be.
