We do not. He does, Only God, Christ alone. But, we are to be pure vessels who are faith fully following Him in our lives,
with His power in us, working, He is us, we in Him, living, walking, we can read the Word and see that He wants us to have the power to speak out righteously against those who oppress the poor and the needy. That is called righteous JUDGMENT, and, Scripture says in many places, like Isaiah 1:17 and Psalms 98: 8-9, and, Proverbs 31:9 we , indeed, are not to sit still when it comes to helping those in need. If you know of a brother in need, then, help them.
God does say the poor will always be with us, but, besides the fact that that verse is saying, too, that Jesus will not always be on this earth with us living as a human being, the verse says, indirectly, that we ARE to help the poor by virtue of the plethora of verses in Scripture that tell us to support the poor and needy as God Himself said He will help 'the oppressed in the land.' Now, these are those who are poor in a different way, but they are poor and needy, too, and, we are to do the same things as Jesus did within our own little sphere of influence, or, 'enormous,' if He so wills, in our life. Whatever we do, great or small, we are to KNOW He is doing a work in us, for we are His workmanship.
Without question, when it comes to the poor and the needy, we are ASKED by Him to WORK
God is amazing and just; it will take work, including, GASP! money, perhaps, but those who need help will become KNOWN to you in your life, help them, for this takes the root out of so much evil that otherwise could be in your life, for doing God's work with your money He's given you is the greatest kind of work we can do with money.
