What you are proposing, Katy, is a fallacy, saying that it's all or nothing, that all we have is scripture. That is not true.
Of course we need scripture. But we require more than that too. God did not just drop the Bible from the sky and then disappear forever never to be heard from again. He sent us the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, to abide with and guide us and his Church until Christ returns. That Bible, which you cling to as the sole source of your teaching and inspiration, was compiled under the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit by his Holy Catholic Church in the 4th century. Yes, Luther the heretic saw fit to change/edit/trash the word of God 1200 years later, but that is another topic altogether.
Thank GOD (and his Holy Church guided by the Holy Spirit) for this compilation of Christian teaching called the Bible, the Word of God, and thank God for the Holy Spirit which guides his Church and her teachings since that first Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles to lead them and Christ's visible Church on earth until Christ comes again in Glory.
"I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, the Paraclete (Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. "
Praise God.
