Jesus baptism was to fulfill the righteousness of that Old Law Covenant.
Matthew 3:14 "But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
William Tyndale translated verse 15, for a very good reason, this way, Matthew 3:15 "Let it be so on this occasion," Jesus replied; "for so we ought to fulfil every religious duty." Then he consented;"
Yes, every equitable duty of the Old Law Ceremonial Observances. The word "religious" actually means, "ceremonial observance" and though it is actually the word for "equity" there at Mattew 3:15, this does show that William Tyndale recognized what I have been telling you here, that Jesus did that to fulfill the Old law Covenant equitably (perfectly and completely for the benefit of all, thus one could say, “righteously”.
