For those who don't know what Necroposting is, it pretty much involves the act of bringing an extremely dead thread back to activity again. Meaning, if it has not been responded to for at least a month or so, then it is considered a "dead post". How do you feel when you see others bringing up old threads from say...like 2010? What threads to you find more annoying to be "brought back up" again?

Re: Narcoposting

Wouldn't that be necroposting? ;) Narcoposting sounds like you're posting threads in your sleep. :p

I really don't mind, as long as the subject matter is relevant/relatable. I think people should be more attentive though, either way.

LOL, thanks for catching it. It's been fixed now :)

Depends.
Some folks reply with one or two sentences, just to increase their post count, which leads to newer threads being pushed back just so the person can lift their count.

Some folks do it because they don't want to over clutter the forums with repeat threads. So that seems ok.

For others it's a way to passive aggressively troll. They are able to push all the new stuff to the back, as the older zombie posts are forward, making it more difficult to reply to new stuff.

I have liked some of you. I don´t care "old" come alive: There are newbies here, like me (and being old) and the system of CC works at "ramdom" to make its way (avoiding saying something wrong or stupid)

I will represent the opposite end of the opinions stated so far. I find it rather annoying when necroposting happens. That conversation ended months/years ago, the people originally involved in the discussion have probably forgotten the thread. It's even more bothersome (IMO) when the poster of the thread asks a question and, long after the person has stopped browsing the forums, someone decides to try to answer and "help" them.

Petty? Perhaps. But that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. :p

It is silly when people resurrect threads from like 2009 when majority of the users are banned or guests and then they actually quote the banned users or guests as if they can respond...Haha! I think it’s also needless resurrecting and discussing ancient threads because some of the users may have changed their views on the topic, e.g. Person A you’re quoting may no longer be a postmillenist so it's kind of awkward bringing it up. Yes, the topic might still be relevant but then you can always create a new thread. If the thread’s a couple of months old I think that’s fine to resurrect it, but if it's up to four years old, no.

I don't think most of them ressurect the dead on purpose; I imagine as I've done they've searched for something and responded to what the search brought up not realizing the search had brought up the dead (check those post dates!).

Or possibly God thought it hadn't all been said.

it doesn't make a difference to me. Sometimes ill read the old thread, sometimes ill just move to the next one. no big deal.

what's old to one person might be new to someone else, esp when they are new to c c, since they haven't seen it before. they could even start a new topic not realizing that to those who have been here awhile it is something the majority have discussed til they are blue in the face. i have noticed that when c c members aren't putting up anything new the old topics are reposted. i don't know if that is automatically programmed in or not but it keeps the titles moving. we all want to keep things alive and fresh but i don't think that is always easy. the topics i least like to see reposted are the ones that seem to have chat members in a stalemate. there are only so many arguments to use and if those haven't persuaded they aren't likely too. reposting those topics too often can lead to a spirit of discontent and resentment. i think if the topics are automatically reposted this is more likely to happen and maybe it would be better to check the frequency of topic reposts to avoid that happening

Hey, wait a sec...............shouldn't ALL THREADS be considered "Necroposting?"

No, seriously...........that's according to Scripture is it not?

Ecclesiastes 1:9) The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 .) Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

Sometimes it seems like a catch-22, in my humble opinion. If a person starts a new thread, they are sometimes told there have already been several threads on that subject started and they should do a search for them. If a person resurrects an old thread, they are sometimes told that it is old and they should let it die.

Personally, I don't mind someone bringing an old thread back instead of starting a new thread. The only thing that annoys me are when people constantly respond to a thread they started to keep it on the front page of the forum. This keeps newer subjects pushed back to the 2nd or 3rd page and I usually don't go that far when I am looking at threads to respond to.

Just my two cents....which is really not worth much at all:)

Blessings to all.

So, am I the only one who has noticed that this thread was itself resurrected from June 12, 2013? Almost a year ago.

Necro-posting isn't so bad as long as the necro-posters are being purged, and I'm glad recently that is finally happening.
