Not to offend,a American AGO Missionary during leadership teaching (invited) stated that the Pastor is the mediator between the congregation and Christ.I found this very difficult to fathom but I'm interested in your views. Please be civil as I do not wish to criticise the AOG ministry maybe they see it from a different perspective He did emphasize the word "leader" and when I asked him "where he was leading me" he answered with the basics, reading, praying etc.Honestly,I was not satisfied ,for I know how to read, pray etc

There isn't a specific mediator, for that the Holy Spirit is the true teacher that teach us the true knowledge of God and which the Holy Spirit is a witness to all the events in time. So we aren't suppose to receive our knowledge from human understanding but from those that are spiritually gifted. But the only main Mediator that I know of is Christ that inform the Greater part of Him.

Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man.

This man, if he's a believer, is using his freedom in the gospel to weaken and take advantage of weak-conscience believers to gain control. Thus sinning against Christ himself.

Don't be fooled or deceived. The only mediator is Jesus Christ. And he died for all. All believers have direct access to the Father through faith in Him.

He emphasized that word a bit much. He is a pastor to help lead the sheep, not be the one connection between God and the congregation. "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 NASB). Why would we have another to reach to Christ, if Christ is our bridge to God? There is no mediator to Christ, Christ comes to us.

The pastor is the mediator between the congregation and Christ that is correct just like the priests of the old testament and the Pastor is responsible to The Father God what he teaches. Christ is the mediator between the Father and (us including the Pastor). Christ prays to the Father on our behalf saying to Him, I have become the perfect once and for all time sacrifice and their souls are washed clean in my blood.

I think the above 2 posts answer your question succinctly.
I would advise you to run away from anyone who calls himself the mediator between man and Christ. Such people gain great congregations by putting them through guilt trips. They end up teaching human philosophy rather than the gospel. In the end, they will disconnect your relationship with the head (Christ) and act as the head of the church. They will make you obey them rather than Christ. You will become faithful to the church doctrine rather to the gospel of Christ. As negative as I may sound...I speak from experience. Also, I do not know the AGO; I'm speaking generally.

A leader is nothing but a servant. His job is to serve and to teach the gospel of Christ, and not handle money and church administration. There are too many church leaders who have gone the wrong way because they handle church admin. and the money. Money and admin must be left to professionals, especially in 501(c) churches.

Just wondering where in the Bible it says this. We do not need a mediator between us and Christ. We have direct access to Christ our saviour through the Holy Spirit. We do not need a connecting medium.

just like the priests of the old testament and the Pastor is responsible to The Father God what he teaches.
Yes, the pastor is responsible for what he teaches, but where is the similarity between OT priest and the pastor? These are two different roles. A pastor does not have to make sacrifices on behalf of the congregation, just like a priest would. The sacrifice is already made by Christ, the Mediator. It is finished. Now we have direct access to Christ. We do not need a pastor to mediate for us and do things on our behalf. We need a pastor or an overseer to help us establish that connection with Christ, the mediator, and NOT TO BECOME THAT CONNECTION.

We don't pray to the pastor but he is appointed by God for spiritual leadership and such
Sorry, but in this age there are too many self-appointed pastors. A pastor, an overseer, a deacon who is chosen by God must prove this by being on the front line and leading by example. He must decrease so that Christ may increase in the congregation. He must be the most humble person. Some great leaders of the NT such as Peter or Paul, who had a great impact on the early church spent every ounce of their energies to help people establish that connection with Christ. They did not become the mediators. They did not live in all-expenses-paid houses. They worked with their own hands. Yes, I have seen many such genuine church leaders in India, and they do not claim to be mediators.

Christ is the mediator between the Father and (us
Agree with you on this one. Christ has become the mediator because he has sacrificed himself for us. A pastor does not come anywhere near this to qualify to be a mediator.

I thank God for Pastors and church leaders but I thank Christ & the Holy Spirit for being our mediator
I thank you all for your response,it has given me peace in heart ..............God Bless you alll

the true mediator , according to the Bible is Jesus Christ

1 Timothy 2
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Interesting point................Thank you

Now before anyone gets me wrong, let me clarify that there is nothing wrong with following church doctrine as long as it is in line with the Bible. In fact, a church must be clear about the doctrine it follows. Also, it is absolutely biblical for a minister to draw a salary from the church. I'm OK with a minister also occupying a house provided by the church. Many ministers have sacrificed much more than what they are actually earning from the church.

The point I was making in my last post (#8) was that once you accept the fact that your leaders are mediators, you would blindly follow any instruction they would give you. The Bible encourages us to cross check all instructions against scripture before obeying them (Acts 17:11).

Most cults first establish the fact (in the minds of the congregation) that the leaders are mouthpieces of God, or something to that effect. The Jehovah's Witnesses are an example of this. The Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Watchtower's Governing Body is the link between God and man. As a result they blindly believe all the false prophecies that the Watchtower make. They are faithful to their church's wrong doctrine rather than the true Gospel of Christ.

You perhaps don't quite get the general meaning of mediator. The Pastor does pray through Christ to the Father for his flock of sheep which are the congregation..No? And he is quite responsible to God for where he leads them just "like Christ was responsible to the Father where He leads us, that's why Christ never sinned, cause He did and said as the Father commanded him. He is our example of how we should act and talk and the minister should act the same as Christ who is a mediator. Therefore the minister of God is a form of mediator, also known as a Leader in Gods word. You really need to see through the eyes of the Spirit and stop being so fleshly.

The pastor is the mediator between the congregation and Christ that is correct just like the priests of the old testament...

NOT SO!

The sons (and daughters) of God are led by the Spirit of God! Rom 8v14

Communion/guidance (etc) under the new covenant is between the individual believer and God, there is NO place for prophet or priest like under the Old Covenant for this. Heb 8v11.

The Pastor (teacher), and indeed anybody who teaches God's flock, is individually responsible for what they teach, whether truth or lies. Matt 24v45-51, Eph 4v11-16, James 3v1, Rev 22v18,19.

Just to add to the last statement, Paul handed Hymenaeus, Philetus and Alexander over to satan for execution because they taught destructive heresy, teaching that the Resurrection was past and hence over-throwing the faith of some believers. Do you think that the Lord Jesus is going to feel any different to those false teachers who teach a secret pre-tribulation advent and rapture and thus causing believers to backside and go into apostasy when it does not happen, for the Scriptures clearly show that the Church goes through the Great Tribulation? Matt 24v11-13,15-21,45-25v13, 1Cor 15v50-55, 2Thess 2v1-12, Tim 1v19,20, 2Tim 2v15-18, 4v14, Rev 7v9,14

Yahweh Shalom...

There is no general meaning of mediator. Jesus is THE Mediator. There is no other mediator. There is no requirement of a mediator between Christ and the congregation. A pastor is a shepherd of the flock, and not a mediator. Most people on this thread would agree with me.

The Pastor does pray through Christ to the Father for his flock of sheep which are the congregation..No?
Every member of the congregation can themselves pray through Christ to the Father for themselves(the flock) and for others. They do not need an intercessor.

He is our example of how we should act and talk and the minister should act the same as Christ who is a mediator.
Agree, that the minister should imitate Christ, and we should imitate the minister's faith as he imitates Christ. Nevertheless, the minister does not become a mediator just because he follows the example of Christ.

Therefore the minister of God is a form of mediator
Again, there is no "form of mediator." There is one and only mediator between God and man; that is Christ THE Mediator.

You really need to see through the eyes of the Spirit and stop being so fleshly.
My words agree with scripture (provided by others on this thread). This is proof that I am looking through the eyes of the Spirit. Please support your claims with scripture verses. Yours is a man-made concept.

Also, how am I being fleshly? Please elaborate.

There is no mediator between man and God except Jesus Christ. I'm sorry but this is false prophet, false witness.
