Re: "Women keep silent in the churches": Has that ceased or is it still for today?
In your opinion, is the directive for women to remain silent in the churches still for today as seen in the verses below?
Did it cease?
Was it for a certain time and place, and is no longer applicable for today?
If you're a cessationist on this issue, why?
If you're a continuist on this issue, why?
Please stay on topic.
1 Cor 14
As in all the churches of the saints, [SUP]34 [/SUP]the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. [SUP]35 [/SUP]If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.
[SUP]36 [/SUP]Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached? [SUP]37 [/SUP]If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. [SUP]38 [/SUP]If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. [SUP]39 [/SUP]So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. [SUP]40 [/SUP]But all things should be done decently and in order.
In that day, things were out of order with the Corinthians gathering.
For to be in context of what was going on, start at the beginning of this letter 1 Cor.
They heard from Paul about being forgiven 100% by God through the Son Christ.
So after Paul left, they got the idea well we can do whatever we want since we are forgiven, why not drink up all the wine, eat the food before the others arrive, Have sex with whoever we want. And the shaven heads was the hookers that came there from the brothel above them, and they started preaching, we are not accountable we are forgiven, and What a mess there was in that gathering.
So here is 1 Cor. letter written to them to put them back under Law, seeing how they were still carnal and did not understand God's grace given through Christ.
So first if we are not Loving our neighbor as God ha\ and does Love us, then we need to be put under Law to lead us to Christ. So if one can't behave as in Love God's way, then they need the School Master.
For carnal mindedness, fighting, arguing divisions, are ye not carnal and in need of the Savior.
Hope this helps to see the context in need of Love of God to consider others and not be selfish against others wills.
Now they did get it, and had a Godly sorrow over the worldly one. 2 Cor. 7
Now when we walk in Love God's type in the Spirit by the resurrected Christ, Law is not needed.
But if one is still carnal, then Law needed. The Law is for the Law breakers, not believers in Christ, mature ones.
