Look, Agape is a word. It has many uses. Like Sanctify. You can sanctify a piece of wood, a sandal, a bug, a horse, and man can be sanctified as well. When you see the word sanctify it does not mean man being sanctified every time in the salvific sense.
Same as FOOT. It doesn't always mean foot. It could mean foot as well. One is 12" and the other has five toes of varying lengths.
- II. Tim. 4:10, For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved (agape = esteemed) this present world
- II Samuel 13 describes Amnon’s lust (love (esteem)) for his half-sister, which led him to rape. Verse 15 says afterwards, “he hated her more than he had loved her”, and the Greek translation of the Old Testament used agape to describe that “love” (I am sure there are some who esteem another and still would rape them. But, that does not mean rape (whatever adjective you wish to define it by)).
I'll do your laziness for you.
The word does NOT mean GOD'S LOVE
(But He is so defined as Agape). ALthough God is love. If you don't know what the word means you don't know what God is
(God so esteemed the Son, the world, we are to esteem God and others. It would seem that agape means to give value to something and by which, to cherish it). Love describes God there, not identifies God
(1Jn 4:8 says that God is (to be, exist) Love. It is not spoken as a adjective, but as an absolute). God is also lots of other words.... he is vicious, he is genocidal, he is just, and he is the cause of eternal pain. Each describes aan aspect of God
(now those words seems to be adjective, as oppose to "is, to be, to exist"). NONE are a one word description of him.
Now, you can do your homework, and look at all the ways Agape is used in and out of the Bible. What you will find, is every time it's an instance that is accompanied by an action, or an expected action. That is why it could be used to describe rape
(if that is the case, SHOW me. I ask again, what verse use that word as rape. But of the 300 something instances I saw, it was always translated as love). That is why it's also used for sex between man and woman
(show me). God is more than sex between husband and wife isn't He? Well as you try to impose your crayola written meaning of the word, that is what He would be.
(again, show me..)
The word has many uses, that all share a common meaning. ANother example is GAY. There is a root to that word that covers all the different ways it is used.
You choose one way AGape is used, and try to use that one word and one use to identify all the others.
(show me where agape is used as rape in Scripture)
here's another one to drive the point home. In Europe if you burn a fag you may use a mint
(cigarette). In America if you do that, you'll serve life in prison if you are lucky.
I'm using the word for Semantic explanation ONLY
(Since we are speaking Scripture and you said it was in the Greek Old Testament and I was not able to find it, then SHOW me). It's not a word I use, except with one friend who is gay as the day is long and he and I go at it hard for other's entertainment. AND Even then it's not really comfy....
