Glory to God John. He is the one who showeth me everything.

Christians are held or bound in this way --

Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
(KJV)

Under the new covenant the Christian simply has to confess sin to be forgiven.

Well, confess and repent. God does not forgive those who wilfully and blatantly sin without striving to overcome. But that is the essence of grace. God forgives our shortcomings and failures and the debt is paid by Christ through His shed blood. He died in our stead. Glory and honor and praise to God and His Christ.

first I would like to say adding the words (of love) to my post is adding to scripture. No where in scripture does it say we are no longer under the law of love, In fact, it is the law of love that we are under. Because this law is what helps us learn the ways of God.

Again, The law of moses CAN NOT help us be righteous. It does not tell us how to. All it can do is show us how poorly we are doing, and thus show us our continued need for Christ. As for the rest of your post.

Ro 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. {that being...: or, being dead to that}

How does the Law "hold" someone? The law can only "hold" someone if they are termed to be "under" it's authority. We are only under the authority of the Law if we violate the Law. Hence the term under the Law.

This is again not true. We ar eunder authority of something when it is binding. As long as it is binding, when one breaks that law they are bound to suffer the consequence. it does not matter if we are breaking it or not. When I drive the highway, There are speed limits. These limits are laws. I am bound by that law whether I break it or not.

The law holds someone ONLY when they are still under it.

The Law can only hold someone (in Prison) if they sin.
Sin is a violation of the Law.

This is ONLy true if one is still under law. If one is not bound by law. this is not true.

Redemption is the price paid for sin. That takes us away from law. and under grace. If we are still under law. we are not under grace, the two can not mix.

The law cannot hold a person if they don't transgress the Law. We are dead to violating the law and thereby being held by it. We are delivered from the laws ability to hold us because we have grace to teach us to obey the law.

lol.. So you are sinless?? the only people who claim this are people who excuse their own sin, Or do not truly understand what sin is!

We need to die to sin.

Those who are born again have died to sin.. If you have not yet died. Yu have never been born again

We are delivered from the (penalties) of the law because we keep the Law.
This is what the pharisees taught. If this could be true, Christ died in vein, You should study hebrews. The whole book destroys this comment. as does the rest of the NT

The law has not passed away as Jesus said, Mt 5:18. Christians are to be dead to the law, because they do not break the law, and therefore the penalties prescribed for breaking the law do not apply to them. In this manner Christians are said to be "dead to the Law, or the Old man or husband".

Again in error. My friend you are placing yourself under law. You may think you are perfect and obedient, But you will never match the perfect requirement of the law. If you think so. Again, you do not understand what sin is at all!!

Ro 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(KJV)

Under the new covenant Christians are delivered from being "held" by the law. They are not delivered from Keeping the laws commandments.

lol.. You my friend are still under law. and have no idea what Grace is..

Strive to overcome. ie, we are still under law.. Why do people think they can strive to overcome sin and be worthy of eternal life??

Satans biggest lie is still alive and well!

I don't doubt that you are a follower of Christ but You have been greatly deceived.

Heb 12:4 ¶ Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
(KJV)

Eternally Grateful you have had too many teachers and been too influenced by worldly preachers.

Striving not to sin is one of the central concepts of the Gospel. It is only minimized by those who are being used by spirits that are not devoted to Christ Jesus. That is why I think you have been misled by your teachers.

Those who are born again have died to sin..

This is completely ridiculous as any honest Christian will understand.

(ISBE) International standard bible encyclopedia -- In the New Testament "iniquity" stands for anomia = properly, "the condition of one without law," "lawlessness" (so translated in 1Jo 3:4, elsewhere "iniquity," e.g. Mt 7:23), a word which frequently stood for `awon in the Septuagint; and adikia, literally, "unrighteousness" (e.g. Lu 13:27).

Mt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Trying to convince someone that --- They are righteous in their sinful (lawless) state is very dangerous.

IF Repenting was only as easy as confession...... :|

But, Jesus purpose wasn't just for the Christ. In fact, I don't think it was even the biggest part of his ministry.

Unfortunately, the CROSS is all some people ever hear, study, see of Christ. That's like cutting a quarter in two pieces so you can look at the heads and the tails side in your hand, then trying to spend it.

A few comments.

1. No longer under law means we are no longer under condemnation by the law..

nope, but close. Paul exemplified which LAW he intended as reference with all of his comments on circumcision....

While it's TRUE you are no longer under condemnation by the law, that is because you are not under the law.... live by the law be judged by the law.

Christ's Church is established of the order of Melchizedek. MEL was before the law you reference. Christ's church supersedes the Levitical Laws.

Who were you talking to here?

Eternally grateful was the person I was speaking of. I noticed that it could be misunderstood so in the next post I tried to clarify that I was speaking to Eternally Grateful. Sorry if I inadvertently caused you difficulty.

Very interesting. Repenting is harder, but a Christian can be forgiven by simply recognizing and confessing His sinfulness. That is why when leading a person to Christ we lead them to say "Confess that I have sinned against you".

1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I would like to say also that circumcision was a physical commandment in the Ot. In the New Testament circumcision is the sign that a person is devoted to Christ. Circumcision of the Heart is likened to keeping the Law (the law of Love) in a spiritual sense.

Jesus said all of the commandments were fulfilled when we Love God and neighbor.

Ro 2:26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
Ro 2:27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

Okies, so, no biggie.

If you would like help on quoting, drop me a note.

Agreed.

Paul cursed those of the circumcision frequently. You might want more definition to that claim . :)

1 john 4:16-18 says that without love, he's not in you and you aren't in Him. What does that tell you? How many go to paradise, without HIM in them?

It doesn't say strive to over come sin. It's expected sin will be handled and cease. That is an indicator of the Spiritually mature. YOU ARE DEAD ON, you don't get there trying not to sin, however.

There was the law of moses and there is the law of the spirit (rom 8:2) what is the complication of this

People really don't want to understand that Jesus summarized all of the law.

This means every Law is summarized in one statement.

Every commandment has as its end - love for God and neighbor. What is the point of separating the ot law from the nt?

The only reason to do this is because the allegorical references of the Ot law are not understood.

The real point is that we don't have to strive to understand all of the allegorical references ---- Jesus understands them all, and He said if a person want to fulfill every law of God simply Love God and neighbor.

If a person does that they can truthfully and scripturally say they have fulfilled all of the Laws of God.

Mattithyah 22:37-40, "Yahshua said to him: You must love Yahweh your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might(Deut 6:5). This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself(Lev 19:18). On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Mattithyah 5:18, "For truly I say to you; Unless heaven and earth passes away, one yodh--the smallest of the letters--will in no way pass from the Law, until all things are perfected."

Luke 16:17, "But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one yodh of the Law to fail."

1 Yahchanan 5:2-3, "By this we know that we love the children of Yahweh: When we love Yahweh by keeping His Laws. For this is the love of Yahweh: That we keep His Law, and His Law is not grievous."

Love in practice, not in jaw flappin:

Leviticus 19:9-18,29-31 "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not completely harvest the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and the stranger; I am Yahweh your Father. You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie one to another. Do not vow falsely with My Name, and so profane the Name of your Father. I am Yahweh. You shall not defraud your neighbor, nor rob him. Do not hold back the wages of a hired man overnight. Do not curse the deaf or put a stumblingblock in front of the blind; but reverence your Father. I am Yahweh. Do not pervert judgment: You shall not show partiality to the poor, nor honor to the person of the great. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor fairly. You shall not go about tale-bearing or slandering among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am Yahweh. You shall not hate your neighbor in your heart. Rebuke your brother or your sister frankly, so you will not share in his or her guilt. Do not seek revenge nor bear a grudge against one of your own people; but you shall love your neighbor; whether a brother or an enemy, as yourself. I am Yahweh.Do not R8prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a harlot; or the land will fall into harlotry, and the land will become full of wickedness. You shall reverence Me, by keeping My Sabbaths at My Sanctuary; I am Yahweh. Do not turn to mediums nor familiar spirits. Do not seek after them, to be defiled by them. I am Yahweh. You shall stand up before the gray headed, and you shall honor the presence of an Elder or Teacher; thereby giving reverence to your Heavenly Father. I am Yahweh. If a stranger lives with you in your and, do not mistreat him. The stranger living with you must be treated as one of your native-born, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh. Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight, or quantity. You shall have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah; a dry measure, and an honest in; a liquid measure. I am Yahweh your Father Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Therefore, you must observe all My statutes and My judgments, and perform and do them. I am Yahweh."

Thank you Brother - I had been trying to remember what the Nt reference was that implied that the law was not to hard for us, but was instead attainable.

By saying that this was not grievous, Jn 5:2-3 show that this is true.

1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

As I now am reminded of this verse I am going to record it for future use, along with the Ot verse that also says that compliance with the law of God is possible for men, Deut 30:11.

De 30:11 (ASV) For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee, neither is it far off.

And for me I could not do that until I saw:
1 John 2:2 and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us. by seeing this first love from God by Christ I sought this and received
