Thank you. It is so good to know that sincere Christians can agree on what is written in the Word of God. I am working on the the comparison of John the Baptist and Elijah for my next post. It's already more than I bargined for. Hopefully I'll get it done today, but we have company comming so I might be a day late, and a dollar short.

Why was Jesus referring to John the Baptist as Elijah, and also, what was Malachi referring to when he quoted God as saying Elijah will be sent before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD? Yet we see that John denies being Elijah (OT) Elias (NT).

In summary, it means God in action, or the “God of Jehovah.” I thought at first that this meant God is the God of Himself, but that really didn’t make any sense. Or does it? Hope I didn’t mess your minds up too bad, for God is not the author of confusion.

Elijah means “*God of Jehovah.” The definition is given in Strong’s concordance. I had to question that, and then I read this scripture.
Exodus 6:3 (KJV)

Then I thought that this meant the Lord over Jehovah. So I remembered that there are many attributes concerning Jehovah, so I started taking what I knew and studying the attributes to see how it related to John the Baptist. Here’s what I found.
Yehovah (Jehovah) means self existent. (Strongs 3068, from the word hayah)
Hayah is a related word to Jehovah meaning to exist, denoting action, meaning “come to pass” or “continue to happen” (Strongs 1961)
Now keeping this in mind, there are several references, in the Bible, connected with the name Jehovah. The added Hebrew words to Jehovah are the actions of God’s motivation, with whatever the situation may require, accordingly. So lets start with the word “Jehovahjireh.”
Yehovah yireh is to “see” related to Mount Moriah (where Golgotha is located) as we read these next verses.
Genesis 22:2 (KJV)
[SUP]2 [/SUP]And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. Genesis 22:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP]And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Yehovah nicciy (3071) is a banner for the battle at hand.

Yehovah tsidqenuw (3072) our right, or our righteousness - a symbolical epithet of the Messiah and of Jesus. It is also related to the name “Melchizedek” and the city of Jerusalem.
Jeremiah 23:6 (KJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP]In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jeremiah 33:16 (KJV)
[SUP]16 [/SUP]In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
Jeremiah 33:16 (CJB) When those days come, Y'hudah will be saved, Yerushalayim will live in safety, and the name given to her will be ADONAI Tzidkenu [ADONAI our Righteousness]."
tsedeq (6664) is a related word to tsidqenuw, or tzidkenu meaning the right way or the equity thereof.
Compare this with the name Malkiy Tsedeq (Melchizedek) meaning King of right and/or equity. See Genesis 14:18 and one will also see that Melchizedek was the king of Salem, later known as Jerusalem. This comparison is important, for the next word I present defines shalom, or shalem in summary. Yeru in the name Yerushalem means teach. Shalem is a complete shalom as we will see in the description following. Therefore Jerusalem means to teach complete peace.
yehovah shalowm (3073) meaning peace
Judges 6:23-24 (KJV)
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
yehovah shammah (3074) meaning thither or time of appearing as then, here, and there. Breaking it down even further, “sham” is indicating the transfer to time, and “ah” meaning the source of stability, and power. Therefore, “shammah” is described as the power of God appearing at the appropriate time.
Ezekiel 48:35 (KJV)
[SUP]35 [/SUP]It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
Ezekiel 48:35 (CJB) “The perimeter of [the city] will be just under six [miles] long. And from that day on the name of the city will be ADONAI Shamah [ADONAI is there].”
With the above explanations we discern that………..
*God is the power of Jehovah that continues to happen at exactly the right time.
He is the strength of what is seen with the Spiritual eyes.
He is the banner that goes forth and the power that gives us the capability to
conquer.
He is the motivation of righteousness, equity.
He gives us the instruction according to His perfect will.
He is the source of power, and the Prince of Complete Peace.
Elijah, and John exemplified these attributes, both delivering the exhortations from God accordingly. That’s why they are compared as being the same. Not the same person, but the same in manifesting the same message from God. There are more definitions of Jehovah. I addressed about half of them.

If you will notice, the “ee” no longer applies to the new name that God gave to Sarah. “Hey” is the 5[SUP]th[/SUP] letter in the Hebrew alphabet, pronounced “ah” (as in halleluiah). It represents revelation of being given something obvious, as in this case a “blessing” as the priority.
Many people have had questions in this forum about being able to give birth to a child relating it to a confirmation of salvation. I would heartily disagree with that thought because it comes from what I perceive as a carnal mind. One must understand that it has everything to do with the New Testament church, having a new name to conceive people into a new birth via Jesus Christ. It is the church that is the bride of Christ. Paul claims this concept as a “mystery”. See Ephesians 5:21-33

As Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, we can expect to be temped likewise. Indeed we can, and we are more vulnerable, especially when we claim to be a child of God through Jesus Christ. If Satan can do this to Jesus, what can he do to us?

They will say that the Spirit teaches all things, and we no longer are under the law. Manna, was food, and the law is equated with food. I heard that it was really sweet, and was a completely balanced diet.

Jesus answered each temptation with the word, (His word.) Most definitely a great example for all of us, and another reason to be in the word prayerfully studying, so that we can answer too.
The fear of the Lord is an great topic too!
One of the passages that stood out at me early on in my own studies is this:
Exodus 20:19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
Exodus 20:20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. (KJV)
Exodus 20:20 Moshe answered the people, "Don't be afraid, because God has come only to test you and make you fear him, so that you won't commit sins." (CJB)
That is an interesting verse, don't fear even though there is fear....the fear that keeps a person from sinning.
There are so many examples in the bible about the fear of God.

In the account of Moses at the burning bush, it says:

This also brings to mind Elijah when he hid in the cave on the mountain. He was afraid . (1 Kings 19)
1 Kings 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
The example of Elijah goes along with these passages:
Psalms 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

These four books were preparing the way for the beginning of the New Testament. This is why they are called "The Gospels". They are the herald of good tidings of the Messiah. In my language we call them similar to "Dawn".

There's an account in 1 Kings Ch. 13, where God sends a man into a city to prophesy. He tells the man to go in one way, and leave in a different direction from which he came, and to not eat or drink anything while he is there.
So the man goes and does as the Lord says, and he prophesies.
The King asks him to come to his home to refresh himself.
The man responds with:
8 But the man of God replied to the king, "Even if you give me half your household, I will not accept your hospitality; nor will I eat food or drink water in this place.
9 For this is the order I received through the word of ADONAI: 'Don't eat food or drink water, and don't return by the road you took when you came.
He believed God and was obedient, at this point...
So the man leaves and as he's going out in a different direction, another man, a "prophet," from that city goes out to find him. When he finds the man he invites him to his home to eat.
The man again responds with what the Lord's instruction, not to eat or drink anything in that place.
But the Prophet responds:
18 The other said to him, "I too am a prophet, just like you; and an angel spoke to me by the word of ADONAI and said, 'Bring him back with you to your house, so that he can eat food and drink water.'" But he was lying to him.
So this man took this prophets word above God's word, and he went to his home and ate with him. The man ends up dying because he believed this prophet above God.
This is such a great biblical example of why we need to listen to God above man in all instances. Everything must be checked with scriptures. Regardless of how well accepted a doctrine is, we need to go to God for all of our answers.
Jesus said that "man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
Anyone that says otherwise, is mistaken.

I thought that I might expound on this one, but thought better of it as I was thinking about it. Looking at the way the world is today, and the legislation against family values, and social values, is it any wonder that Christian values are so despised? Yes, for sure, Jesus came to separate the corrupt from the righteous, and I dare say that it isn’t the way I expected those scriptures to be fulfilled, much to my chagrin. Nevertheless, it is the way God wants it through Christ Jesus, and I have to accept it, and trust that it is a perfect way. We see it before our very eyes that this is true, even in the ranks of the church, fighting about doctrinal differences. What a shame, but that’s what Jesus was supposed to accomplish to prove the truth even though some, even in the church, are divided. I am saddened yet hopeful that the outcome will be the right one. I ask that you look into the mindset of Machiavelli, a master of deception for his own pre-eminence. I see this in a very large perspective, politicians striving to be re-elected, demanding one’s own selfish desires, even if it means having to adhere to corruption and still knowing it’s wrong.

In the Levitical law, members of the congregation were also to bring their sacrifice to the temple so the priest could make atonement for them.
It is also interesting to take note of one subtle difference between the Old Testament, and the New Testament concerning the forgiveness of sins. In the Levitical Law, Atonement was to cover up as to hide the sin from the presence of God, becasue atonement means to cover.
In James 1:25, and James 2:12, the Law of liberty is introduced. It is defined by the sacrifice for the “remission” of sins. Carnal thoughts, with its fleshly desires, are in remission through Christ, and are being depleted, and destroyed (burned up) through our repentance and confession. Our sins are covered and our carnality is in remission.

As I contemplated this scripture, and started to investigate why Jesus didn’t drink the vinegar at the start of Him being nailed to the cross, I found that the word for vinegar is the same as leaven in three different passages found in the Old Testament. Therefore, to compare these Old Testament relationships with the leaven found in the New Testament, I will quote three verses in 1 Corinthians that would apply.
