According to the bible or story, the answer is no. We must first understand that the first bible was the Hebrew bible and all bibles are translation from this original text. Sometimes we need to go back to truly understand what the writers intended to say. In Hebrew there are three words that look very similar and therefore confused in their translations. ‘adaaam means mankind; more than one person. Haa-‘adaam (with article) means the man, and ‘eth haa-‘adaam (with article and particle) is a specific person named Adam.

Genesis 1

[SUP]26[/SUP] And God said, Let us make man (‘adaam) in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Here it’s talking about the creation of mankind. Note the underline word! It indicates more than one!
[SUP]27[/SUP] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Here is indicated that males and females were created at the same time. So in the beginning of time God created a population of man and women.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

-Notice in this verse, God says to be fruitful and multiply. If he hadn’t created Eve yet, how can any man multiply? As we now know, there was a population of women now in existence. We can also understand from this passage that the men God created where to have domain over the fish of the sea (fishermen) and over the fowl of the air, and every living thing… (hunters)

Genesis 2

[SUP]5 [/SUP]And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And the Lord God formed man (‘eth haa-‘adaam) of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

-With only fisherman and hunters, there was no one to till the ground (farmers) so God formed Adam. Notice that he wasn’t created! but rather formed. As stated again in verse 8.
This was the purpose of the creation of Adam. Then God gives him a wife that would suit him and Eve came into existence. They first had Cain and Abel [later Seth (Gen 4:25) and many more (Gen 5:4)]. And as we all know the story, Cain murders Abel and God punishes him.

Genesis 4

[SUP]12 [/SUP]When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
A fugitive and a vagabond shalt though be is God kicking him out from Eden.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

-In verse 14, Cain is afraid to be killed if someone finds him. Notice again the underline words! In verse 15 the lord refers to people with whosoever, again supporting the existence of other people!
[SUP]
16 [/SUP]
And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

-Cain went to Nod and got married with a woman from there. Again supporting the existence of other people and even women!! Throughout the rest of the chapter, it lists generations. Again if people look past Cain’s wife as simply something you can’t question and the bible doesn’t give answers to everything, then where did Enoch find his wife? And the following people. Again, it’s because there were many men and women on earth!

1 Corinthians 15:45So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

1 Timothy 2:13
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

Perhaps you're right, Petula. I'm not an expert at ancient languages. However, if the bible is "God-inspired", then how did it get translated so poorly? I hear so many Christians defend the perfection of the bible in its original writing, but they feel that if the bible that they're holding isn't accurate it must be due to a person's error along the way. Even if God inspired the original writing, couldn't the authors have ruined the translation from God just as easily as any of the further translators? It's an odd double-standard.

So what were the names of all the other Adaaams because names were important back then after all he was told to name all the animals, so, I would think man having dominion over the animals being much more important than animals should also have names for them selves? Unless of a course it's not important enough to put it into the Word, in which case what is the importance of this post?

God created Eve right after Adam, God took a rib of Adam's and He made Eve. It was quick and right after Adam was made.
He said to Adam , 'Be fruitful and multiply' and Adam probably said, 'Huh?' But, then, after Eve was born and they were 'naked,' Adam knew EXACTLY what God meant by what he said and Cain and then Abel were born. :)

It does not say that Cain got his wife in Nod. It only says the he went to Nod and his wife conceived. The natural implication of the language was that he was already married when went to Nod.

I've often wondered about this. And I think you do have an interesting point with the usage of ha'Adam and Adam and the fact that ha'Adam was comprised of both males and females. I think it's a possibility. After all, it looks like God created all manner of creatures and then recreated versions of them specifically for the Garden that was in Eden. He could have done the same for Mankind. But I still do have some problems with this interpretation. It'll be interesting to see what answers people have to offer.

Oops. That should be Adam comprised both males and females. Can't edit. :p

But for Adam[SUP]f[/SUP] no suitable helper was found. 21So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[SUP]g[/SUP] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[SUP]h[/SUP] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.
No suitable helper? Really ? Oh, this must mean that NO WOMEN was created.

And, what do you make of Genesis 2:7 ?

Then the Lord God formed a man[SUP]c[/SUP] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

So, there was NO man on EArth, oh, I know, I know, God says He created 'mankind,' and, 'male and female, He created THEM.'

"THEM," "Them," "them,'" who be the 'them?'

The "THEM" are going to be Adam and Eve and God in the beginning of this creation verse of day 6 of creation of man is a foreshadowing, prelude, precursor to the FIRST man, Adam, being MADE into a living being by God.

It is ridiculous lunacy to think there were humans all poplulating the Earth BEFORE Adam and Eve. Pure idiocracy ,really :(

but, I do pray that God teaches you this Truth, too, ALL Scripture is revealed by His Holy Spirit :) to us and, sometimes, we see things that make us think THEY (them?) are going to CHANGE history but, no, what COULD be your weird theory of many men and women before Adam IS completely deBUNKED in Genesis 2:7 :)

Simon says this thread stinks too :D

p---------------------p

But, I do want to say 'oo,' I need to seriously give this to the Lord because there was a time when I was thinking about Jesus as not God and didn't even know the Holy Spirit was more than a presence that was not God but the Truth is in Scripture, look no further than 1 John 5:7, in fact, for this Truth, too :)

Anyway, this petula girl person can, indeed, have struggles with Christianity and rather than judgment, we should show Love, as, this is something I sometimes get a little too cutesy with my thought. Smells even . But, the Lord leads , and, IF you, petunia are being meaningfully blasphemous of the Truth here then I, for one, AM led by Him to make you KNOW just who He is and who He created FIRST, and, second, in 'life.' :)
