More than happy to oblige, dearest Jilly!

Savoury oatmeal - the perfect winter's breakfast! I shall post the ten minute method!

1/4 c steel-cut oats
1 tbsp butter
6-8 oz of broth (I usually use chicken, sometimes beef)
1 egg
Optional: 2-3 oz of ground/shredded/diced pre-cooked meat

Soak 1/4 cup of steel-cut oats in 3/4 cup of water overnight; it does not need to be refrigerated, but I would cover it. (Yes, you must use steel-cut oats and not rolled oats, because rolled oats are inferior and if someone tries to deny this, they are wrong.) In the morning, use your small saucepan or even a small non-stick skillet and melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Drain your oats as well as you can, then toss 'em in the melted butter, and let 'em toast up. In about a minute, they'll have absorbed the butter, and started to brown slightly; if they smell smokey and you see some oats turning black, your heat was too high, but you're not dead yet, just add the stock. If after a minute or two, you've toasted the oats to a nice light brown, boost the heat and quickly add the stock. (If you're adding meat, now's the time to do that, too.) Bring it to a boil quickly (usually about a minute or two), crank the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for five minutes. (Pack your lunch for the day at this time.) After the five minutes, take it off the heat, take off the lid, wait 30 seconds, then crack one glorious egg on top. Stir it gently; the yolk will blend with the broth to make it rich and silky (and will cook just right without curdling into scrambled eggs), while the white will become tiny flecks of texture amongst the oats. Add black pepper and/or hot sauce and/or sriracha, if so inclined. Either consume once it will no longer burn your tongue, or pour into a thermos like I do, to eat at work.

Since I'm a protein-fiend, the egg isn't quite enough, which is why I add meat. Shredded chicken works wonderfully, as does crumbled up breakfast sausage (I get the turkey stuff), and diced bacon. Even plain ol' ground beef works.

I pretty much have to prep it this way, since I ate two packets of Quaker oats almost every day sophomore and junior years in high school. Burned my tastebuds out on sweet oatmeal as a result (Apples and Cinnamon USED to be my favorite, followed by the various fruit-and-creme variations). No longer; savoury is the only way I can take it now.

Music theory! How delightful! I shall begin my ten-sentences-or-less with this quote by composer Paul Hindemith:

"There are only twelve tones, treat them carefully."

Those twelve tones can be combined, typically in groups of three or four (or more!), to form chords. There are a fantastic number of chords we can build (in varying qualities: major, minor, diminished, and a whole lot more), but we find that specific sets of chords, particularly seven chords built using the seven same tones, sound best when used together. This set of tones and set of chords derived from said tones creates a specific tonality or key; hence you'll hear people specify, "the key of B-flat, please" or "let's do this in G-minor," as they are designating the particular set of tones and chords that they will be using. Those seven chords, when utilized in particular patterns, create tension and release (termed "dissonance" and "consonance," respectively, in musical parlance) in a continuous manner that gives the harmonic flow of the music a forward motion, if you will; a drive towards a conclusion (through tension and release) that eventually resolves (hopefully!) with a final, conclusive moment of consonance on the final chord. You can demonstrate this by singing Amazing Grace to yourself, and you'll find tiny crests of dissonance resolving to small moments of release (creating small musical phrases), as well a large build to a moment of high tension, and a slow release to consonance (a large, overarching harmonic phrase, or complete musical thought.

Six sentences! But now I will show you how to demonstrate this yourself, how the concept of consonance and dissonance build harmonic motion, which in turn, creates phrases.

Sing the first verse, and note how the tones build and release for short phrases:

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound / That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found / Was blind, but now I see.

Overall consonance
Slight dissonance
Slight consonance
Highest point of dissonance

So, the pattern in which the melody and the chords are placed creates forward motion. Hopefully that example makes the theory-in-ten-sentences-or-less make sense. (I mean, you did ask me to boil down a topic that is typically taught over the course of four to five semesters in college, and the last time I served as a music theory professor, at Western New Mexico University, was in 2005. I can't believe I just came up with all of that after 8 years of teaching Mary Had A Little Lamb. ^_^ )

You remind me of my music theory prof. His name was Dr. Sabre and he wasn't fond of me... nor I of him. I once wrote a HORRIBLE piece of music that was technically correct, but made you want to run screaming from the auditorium. :D My argument was that he didn't tell us it couldn't sound horrid. From that point on he always added, "And it must be auditorially pleasing!" in a thick Spanish accent. When he found out I was a bruja he got a little nicer.

I'm much kinder now that I'm saved. :D

Dream job. That's tough to nail down, and somewhat varied haha. I would love to have been a criminal profiler for the FBI (and not because of Criminal Minds =P ). Or done psychology research focusing on mental illness and criminal behavior.

If not that then music. Love the creative aspect of music. You get to be creative visually, aurally and with words as well. And it would allow me to combine my writing into it, something i used to love to do.

So yeah, a dirty transient, or someone who hunts dirty transients... hmm...

And i can only assume that they're drunk off their 6 inch heels from the fermented jellyfish juice. I mean, do you have a better explanation? I didn't think so. And then Grace comes by in all her grand goobitude and feeds the fermented jellyfish juice drunkfest and adds her own heavy dose of goobage to think mix. That's like taking uppers and downers at the same time. Just look at what happened to them. They're seeing jellyfish everywhere.
Two things. FBI agent would be awesome. I had a class in college taught by an active FBI agent working in cybercrimes. He covered some of the investigatory process in great detail. The job was actually one of the ones I had considered, that and nuclear engineer, but right now I'm going with computer network related work (but not cybercrimes at the FBI).

Second thing. Yeah, we're going to be in the middle of an FBI ring soon enough. Jellyfish juice will become the latest street drug, and it will all get tied back to CC. It'll be probably be called Royal Jelly (to confuse people since it's not from bee pollen), but street names will be Jel or Jellay.

You may want to sell your pet jellyfish before this all comes to a head. Or at least monitor the conspiracy forum for hints about when it might go down.

Wasn't expecting so many questions. Gonna have to think of some of my own here in a bit. Stay tuned. Same Strong Bad time, same Strong Bad channel!
Another Homestar Runner fan!

Shouryu, I'm going to ask you a question that might take some time. What is your favorite Homestar Runner short. You can pick up to three if it's a toss up. And they can be longer toons, shorts, or answering machines.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Err, I mean the "Questions you always wanted to ask, part III" thread. You made your presence known, now you must deal with the consequences! Recoil in horror!

Pipp: What is your favorite form of comedy. What is the craziest thing you've ever done (or most awesome), and what is your favorite thing to do on CC?

Favorite form of comedy.... hmmmm...... can I say all.. I love to laugh.

The most awesome thing I've ever done ... I once got to donate 1,000 cupcakes to a benefit for a local fireman who found out he had stage 4 cancer. I donated then and they sold them for $1.00 each. That was one of the best experiences of my life. Sadly the young man died within months of the benefit.

My favorite thing to do on CC is read and I'm slowly getting into replying to some of the threads here.

Thanks for asking :)

Servantstrike : What first brought you to CC ( or how did you run across it ) ?

Liamson - Projecting yourself to January, when you are ok to pursue broads again (refer to other thread for those of you who are going "huh?"), if you are pursuing dream girl and she really wants you to take her line dancing, would you?

WEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ...... hmm.

I think she would regret it but, I suppose.

One of my friends is really into swing dancing and she is dying for me to go. Im like, eh well MAAAAYYYYBEEEEEEEE.

If I do go, it would certainly not be for me.

I'm of the belief that if someone Im in a relationship loves doing something, I will learn to do it, learn to enjoy it and whatever, because I would hope they could do the same with me. And I'm ALL ABOUT the whole doing stuff together thing.

Hey Everyone,

As usual, I'm a little late to the party! :) Just wanted to say to all the new posters, welcome and we're glad you're here. Feel free to dive right in and ask or answer a question as you wish!! We have a really great group here and will be happy to see you add your input to our silly bits o' banter. ;)

Green N Nice: Thank you so much for your encouraging words about my threads. It got to a point where they took so much time and energy that I would stop writing and actually feel tired!! But, if even one or two people are helped by the discussion, you're right--it's totally worth it--and I will try to allow God to lead me through some ideas. :) Would you know, I am such a nerd that I actually keep a small book of ideas for threads? At current count, as I flip through, I actually have about 50 questions written down... But haven't been able to ruminate them as much as I'd like before I make the attempt at another 40-answer poll. :D

And now, Mr. Green... what we've all been dying to know: DO YOU LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM???

Jules--You have asked me a few questions before about my adoption and I wanted to really thank you for that :). It's a blessing to be given the opportunity to share about such an important part of my life.

First of all, my adoptive parents are white :). Second, we are total opposites in most ways. I wrote in another thread--forget 50 Shades of Grey (which I've never read, for obvious reasons), my parents can decorate anything in 50 Shades of Beige, literally. Not me!!! I love all bright, primary colors, and even, yes, gasp, neon! :) My parents always joke that they have no idea where any of their kids got any of our talents or characteristics because we are about as unlike our parents as one could have ever imagined. For instance, we are all readers... but my parents are not. One brother is very artistic... not Mom and Dad!

My parents are very grounded in their faith and very simple, small-town people. Sometimes it frustrates me because it takes a bit of coaxing to get them to go along to a museum or art exhibit, but 2 out of 3 times if they do go, they wind up loving it. :) But they've said many times that if it wasn't for their kids, they would have never explored such things on their own.

You'd love my Mom, Jules--she is clean to the point of certification. Honestly. We used to joke that she could get a job sanitizing hospital emergency rooms. She cleans toilets by hand--rubber gloves and a rag--and eschews the thought of using a mere mortal brush to do such an important job.

But, I love them to pieces and they've been with me through thick and thin. I always say, this is why God makes some choices FOR us. If God had given me a choice between Donald Trump, Bill Gates, and a couple living in a small trailer in tiny town in the middle of nowhere, guess what, I would have made the wrong choice. But God chose the most perfect two people for the difficult, often times thankless (when I was a teen) job of raising one difficult little me! :)

Chainhand--I am beyond impressed that you tried to make kimchi, as I read a few months ago how difficult it is and that each little step requires 20 more sub-steps... Kudos to you!!!

However, I grew up here in the good old US of A and I have to tell you... I never tried kimchi until I was an adult. Korea would officially disown me in that... gasp... I don't really care for it. I think I'd like it better if it were served warm... And I have to admit... the thing I REALLY have a taste for right now is a Filet O' Fish from McDonald's. :) Or maybe the pumpkin cheesecake I had last week...

You are officially more Korean than I am!! ;)

A bunch of vines being whirled around and around into each other, feeding into funnels, spinning onto a reel shaped thingy flailing around.

It was like a fever dream. I had to sit down after that one.

PopClick: Have you ever been coyote hunting?

Shouryu: Is it weird if I pronounce your name "Sha-roo"? Let me know if you don't like it. I won't stop.

Julianna: Will anything I say be used against me in a court of law?

Ugly: Do you have numchuck skills?
Nope. But i have been called a numskull. Does that count?

CatHerder - If you could only play one of these two for the rest of your life, which would it be? Mahler 7 or Till Eulenspiegel?

Rachelsedge - I know what it's like to feel like you're living in someone's shadow, especially if it's someone you love. You've talked about it before; is this still a struggle for you? Is it a daily fight to tell yourself that this is not the case, or are you done with it and past it now?
Tintin - Ever felt the urge to visit the US? If you had the means, would that be a priority for you?
Ugly - Do you feel like you were successful in nipping it in the bud? You think you're gonna handle this one better than the last time, since you went in quick?

princessaim -- What's the strangest thing you've seen in the nursing field?

I'm not a nurse. :) But the weirdest thing I've seen at the pharmacy I work at... When people would come in (obviously a drug addict) and want to buy clean needles. Which is fine, I'd rather they were clean. But they would lie to me. I've heard a whole host of excuses. My favorite so far is... "I need the needles because the hospital doesn't have any more at all in any of the rooms and they sent me over to get some for all the people." Said in one breath too!

Aimee- Everybody has taken at least one random road-trip, right? Tell us about one of yours (um...that's a question...yeah...)

I was living in NV at the time, and I decided to drive to CA to see my mom. I was somewhere around Roseville, and I was steering with my knee, in the fast lane going 90, a CD in each hand, and my head turned towards the passenger chair while I looked through my CD case. I look up and through the passenger side window and there's a CHP officer keeping pace with me. I gasped and he shook his head, staring at me. I slowed down, put the CDs in the chair, and gripped the steering wheel at 10 and 2. He followed me for about 15 miles or so. He didn't pull me over, for which I was thankful! He was really good looking too.

DuchessAimee - You mentioned in the Streams thread that you know a lot about makeup. Me too. :)Just about everyday, not theatrical. I did my sister's makeup for her wedding, she loved it. I don't wear too much myself, most of the time. What do you usually get? High end, drug store? What's your favorite type to wear?

I loooove Sephora! I buy high end liquid foundation of varying brands depending on what I need at the time. Meaning is my skin dry? Is it summer? Does this color match better than the other? I have no problem buying drug store makeup, however.

DuchessAimee: What would you do if not nursing?

Whelp, it looks like I'm going back to psychology. My doctor thinks I have Lupus, so being around sick people all day will totally mess me up.

DuchessAimee - why is it every time I see your username, I think of Dutch Apple Pie?

A couple of reasons. First, it's simple word association. Second, it's probably linked to a happy memory of some sort, or it's a favorite dessert. :)

DuchessAimee - Once you're done with school, you're done with Modesto, right? Where ya got a hankerin' for?

Oh yeah, Modesto is bye bye! But I'm not sure where I'm off to. I'd like to go somewhere they have seasons, some place I've never been, and somewhere it's gorgeous. I'll have to do more research.

Oh! Well in that case....uuuummm....hmm. For some reason I feel like you've mentioned that you know how to make Thai food. Or maybe your mom does. Have any delicious curry recipes? It's probably my favorite "ethnic" food. Oh my gosh...I miss REAL curry soooooo very much. Stinkin' Texas. *kicks it* Hawaii had some amazing Thai places. ^_^ If not, then I have no clue. You can just make it up or we can figure it out later. Whatevs.

Shouryu: Which Joss universe character do you most identify with?
GraceLikeRain: Do YOU sing the Grace Like Rain song every time you look at your screen name too?
MissCris: Do you have a Fall garden? And if so, what did you plant? And where did you learn about gardening? (sorry, that's a lot of questions...)
TinTin: If you were an evil villain, who would you be?

Okay, that's the best I've got. My brain starts shutting down by 8:00pm so....4 1/2 hours later....this is what you get. ^_^

Well, according to the doctor, or the nurse, rather, since the doctor didn't feel a need to tell me anything at all, the virus i was sure was coming back, was not coming back. But they did find an infection starting, which was caught early. Hopefully better doctors (as in they actually try and then tell you what they know) can learn more this week.

Did you purposefully leave off the 3 letter word that usually follows wise? Most people add it.

Well, any supposed wisdom i have comes from my own experiences in stupidity, mixed with some reading, and a learning from others mistakes.
