So it has been a long time sine I pondered this passage, it really made me think and I think it is a very powerful verse. I want to post it so people can read it and ponder it also. I would like if those here would share their thoughts on this. The meaning of the verse and how one could fall under this same principle and also how to avoid it. Also for us to evaluate ourselves in this matter.

Revelation 3:1-3, "...I know your works, that you have a Name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found your works perfect before Yahweh. Remember, therefore, how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. For if you will not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you."

So the word translated "name" is:

Greek word # 3686 onoma a name, authority, cause

Thayer's (New Testament Greek-English Lexicon)
From a presumed derivative of the base of G1097 (compare G3685); a "name" (literally or figuratively), (authority, character):—called, (+ sur-) name (-d).

HELPS Word Studies
3686 ónoma – name; (figuratively) the manifestation or revelation of someone's character, i.e. as distinguishing them from all others. Thus "praying in the name of Christ" means to pray as directed (authorized) by Him, bringing revelation that flows out of being in His presence. "Praying in Jesus' name" therefore is not a "religious formula" just to end prayers (or get what we want)!

Isayah 29:13, "Therefore Yahweh said: Because these people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me, and their reverence to Me is taught by the precept of men."

This verse has nothing to do with GOD's name. It is referring to those who receive glory from men instead of GOD.

Where does it mention that?

I see:

know your works,

that you have a Name that you are alive, but you are dead.

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found your works perfect before Yahweh.

Remember, therefore, how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent.

For if you will not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you

Sardis was at one time prior to John's writing one of the most important cities of Asia. and one of the richest kingdoms of the ancient world. It was ruined by a devastating earthquake in 17 AD and never recovered its former glory; but it continued to boast in that glory, as we are all inclined to do. Thus John is alluding to that propensity to glory in the flesh instead of the things of GOD, and to receive glory and honor from men instead of GOD.

For that reason he admonishes to watch lest that which isn't perfect dies. This was also a familiar them to the Sadians because in its former glory it was an impregnable fortress built on a hill with an easily defended narrow passage. It was only conquered twice (Cyrus and Antiochus); both times the Sardians feeling secure in their fortress didn't watch the wall diligently, which enabled the besieging armies to scale the wall and conquer the city.

interesting stuff, but Yahshua's words say what they say

Revelation 3:1-3, "...I know your works, that you have a Name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found your works perfect before Yahweh. Remember, therefore, how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. For if you will not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you."

I could see the not watching be a parallel, but the topc to me is clearly dealing with "For if you will not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you"

Mattithyah 24:42-44, "Therefore watch! For you do not know what hour your Ruler will come, But know that if the householder had known the exact watch in the night the thief would come, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore, you must also be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you are not expecting Him."

My view is these are prophetic words, that is why they are in the book of Revelation

It's reminding the sealed that they must lose everything in order to play their role in Christ's second coming.

They have a name that they are alive CHRIST.

but they are dead, because they not only barely know the name of The Most High, they have no clue as to what HE (The Most High) has stated reguarding Christ, nor do they even want to know, it would seem. (again, most, NOT all.)
PRAISE BE TO YAHAVEH

JUDAH BE TO YAHAVEH'S SAVIOUR

you mean like a superficial/hollow walk, with no real intent on doing what Yahweh and Yahshua say?

To me one is either born of flesh and not of Spirit or dead to flesh in the carnality of their old mind set and born of the Spirit of God and thus seek to renew their mind by God and from God, through the resurrected Christ.

So maybe bottom line what are we of? Flesh or born again in the Spirit of God, flesh held alive by the Spirit of God new and dead to that old flesh self Spirit. Could it be?

Any that want to enter the kingdom of Yahweh I would say yeah

Romans 8:14, "For as many as are oled by the Spirit of Yahweh, they are the sons of Yahweh!"

for the women too! (and daughters!:p)

Ya, really kind of Essauish lol ( a new ish)

They are going to be suckered in through what they see in the here and now; not realizing that it has been spoken before; written before; and confirmed before, NOT to attend this Apostacy to come.

One can clearly see how Dumpty is about to have a Great Fall. (Dumpty being the Religious Leaders at this time.)

It's saying that they has a reputation of a Believer, but they doesn't believe the truth (Gospel) about God.

Luke 22:31
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.

Matthew 26:72
He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”

Acts 12:11
Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.”

John 20:27
Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

[SUP]10 [/SUP]And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Someone greater than religion's monkey-suit-shaved-faced-doom-centered version of Jesus is coming, the Christ who is able to sit and eat with sinners and tax collectors.

And... to sing along with them.

Sardis is in the top 10 this very day -

Royals - the bride sings.
Holy Grail - vocalist 1 the bride, vocalist 2 the bridegroom

Sound the "trumpet", Love everyone!

[SUP]5 [/SUP]Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

this is written to all believers who hold strictly to covenant theology AKA the doctrines of grace;

they spiritually and theologically stagnate in the state of an incomplete reformation

clinging to the evil doctrine of that papist augustine that God has finished with Israel;

the result of these errors is to find oneself in a spiritual coma - hence "You have a Name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found your works perfect before Yahweh. Remember, therefore, how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. For if you will not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you."

could you elaborate a little more, as im very interested in your take on this, could be key info?

could you elaborate a little more, as im very interested in your take on this, could be key info?

you need to read Rev 2 and 3

This passage describes the Roman Catholic Church and its blasphemous sacrifice of the MASS
Thyatira means continuing sacrifice

18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,

‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow[c] that woman[d] Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce[e] My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.[f] 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their[g] deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

24 “Now to you I say, and[h] to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—

27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’[j]—

as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.

29 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

This is the missionary minded church which focussed on missionary activity worldwide
The name Philadelphia means BROTHERLY LOVE
The passage makes it clear that the return of Christ will occur while there are still churches of this type around

Rev 3

The Faithful Church

7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write,

‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”:[c] 8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it;[d] for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. 9 Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. 11 Behold,[e] I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. 12 He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.

13 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’
