If you feel it is your duty to call me to some kind of repentance or sway me in my beliefs...know now that if I turned my back on what I believe, I would become atheist
Which has been my experience with Mormons. And I don't really understand that either. I was raised a Baptist but am now best described as a Messianic Jew. What I realized was that some of my beliefs went against that document I believed in - the Bible. So giving up some beliefs and adopting others never needed to be a transition from one faith to another. It was rather a correction of beliefs to be more closely in line with what I had supported all along.

But the question I have for you is whether or not Mormons believe in the necessity of baptism to be saved? That is, if you are never baptized but believe in the Gospel (i.e. Good News), then can you still be saved?

Hate to break it to you but have you read the history of how Mormonism began? It was written by a former Mormon exposing its gross history. I'll have to find the title later.

This is a Christian Chat and forum. Not a Mormon... If you have questions about the true Triune God, please ask away. But please, don't confuse yourself. We aren't here to ask you questions about your false beliefs.

I met a young woman my age right after I got married.
She's a former Catholic who became a member of the LDS.
One of the sweetest people I know. :)

She tried over a period of about 10 years to convince me her beliefs are correct,
so I studied the LDS from LDS sources (to be fair), and then from other sources.
I discovered (from LDS sources!) there's a lot they tell you incrementally.
As if they want to be sure you're properly indoctrinated before you learn something weirder. ( ;) )

And, yes, that whole "be a god over your own planet of folks" is one of their doctrines.
I could go on and on. (but who wants to hear it! lol)

Megan seemed to have a huge problem with the fact Christians use translations other than the KJB,
insisting the meanings were different. She called me from CO one New Year's Eve, and we spent
4 hours going through varying verses in different translations. She became frustrated when she saw
the meanings were the same. But she graciously proclaimed me an excellent scriptorian (not so, then, or now :) ).
Did I mention she's really sweet?

She urged me to read the Book of Mormon and await the "burning in the bosom".
(Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified...)
I basically said, no thanks.

Still friends today, by God's grace.
I pray for her. I bet she does for me, too, but I don't really know to whom she's praying.
It isn't the God of the Bible. :(

Okay guys everyone has made their point, this is indeed a Christians site not a Mormon site. So do you see the issue here?
canchristiansgetalong is not the problem we are. we Christians are to accept others with loving care Christian or not, I would even befriend a Satanist on here because I while I want them to be Christians I don't judge a person for their belief or faith. I get to know the person and treat them with decency and love and maybe just maybe they will see the abnormally of that kind of love and be curious.

What about Joseph Smith? Where does he stand in your religion? False Prophet? a god? Jesus incarnate?
I read that he called himself the second Muhammad! No joke. That is real!

I have read quit a bit of stuff like this and have found it has little backbone. So much of it contradicts itself. I have studied both the mormon view of the history and the anti-mormon view of the history and I am still Mormon.:)

Blain, we're trying to help her see that her beliefs need to be examined and discerned, we're not disrespecting her (at least most of us aren't). Shame on those who are.

as far as I can tell she is nowhere near ready to change her mind. trying to get her to change her mind is useless at this point and will only cause negative emotions.

Hey everyone,

I will keep checking this to see if people have real questions that I can answer or discuss. I will email those with questions. Thanks for those who have kindly asked their questions. I continue to simply say that I love the Savior. I hope as time goes on, those on Christianchat can see me as a true follower of Jesus Christ. I am determined to do the best I can to be that way. I love talking to others about what is most important to them. I love talking about good things and testifying of the Savior in my life. I will not ever cease to do so, but I think this thread is getting away from "the good." I promise you all there is a lot of Good in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also that what you believe and what I believe isn't so different we can't make each other better. I hope this thread improves in the future.

Please explain what spirit children are, the origins of God, and baptism of the dead according to the Mormon belief?

Mormons aren't Christians. They reject the Deity of Christ. In other words they reject that Jesus Christ is God. Read 1John 4. This is the test of spirituality. Peter was tested by Jesus(Matthew 16).Peter passed the test. God had opened his eyes, his heart. Galatians chapter one states: "that if a man or an angel comes to you with another gospel let them be eternally condemned(anathema in Greek). Mormons believe in another gospel. Jesus promised in Matthew 16 the the gates of Hades will never prevail. Joseph Smith claimed the the Christian Church died. The last few verses of the book of Revelation warns us not to add or take away from God's word. That's what Joseph Smith did with his book of Mormon. The Bible is the word of God.Joseph Smith was just another anti-Christ(false prophet).Mormons believe in another Jesus.

Ya and I'm a little disappointed with your late Christian upbringing. It isn't like Christianity just started in Ok a year ago.

Interesting approaches to a person of different belief. One engages and the other drives away.

I have reported you for proselytizing for your cult. Hopefully the admins will agree and ban you.
