Not all are like that though. For many, they believe that a woman's beauty should only be shared with her husband. They believe female beauty is too precious to be made a common thing. It is something to be valued.
thank you for that, see out of all the things because this is not the first time i have tried to understand this issue. Something clicks.
That's good.
It takes time to learn these things. When I created my account March 20th, 2010 I was an atheist. I have become a Christian since then and have learned a lot, and gone a long ways in sanctification (God making us more like his son in our thoughts, feelings, etc)
In western culture we have no respect for women, or female beauty. The same goes for men, though the pressure isn't as hard, and it seems men are generally better at running against the grain in that particular issue. Talk about muscle, and then you can have a lot of similarities.
Western societies are so messed up right now when it comes to beauty. I really love what Dove has done.

I was really impressed when emarie said this:
My body is for me, God, and my future spouse.
It's so very true.
I would have put God first, personally, but that doesn't negate the point.
We show how much we respect/love ourselves, with how we treat our body.
We show how much we respect/love God, with how we treat our body.
We show how much we respect/love our future spouse with how we treat our body.
Before I was a Christian, I was heavily involved in many sinful sexual practices. One of which is very common in the west, pornography. It has horrendously affected my ability to relate to others, especially the opposite sex. It is because I learned to view the female figure as a piece of meet hanging in a market, from which I could select my preferable cuts, that I struggle today. It has dramatically improved, no doubt, but that stain is always there. I am afraid of what it might mean were I to marry(something I'm not planning on at this moment, but would be surprised if it didn't happen). I want to be able to treat her as a woman ought to be treated, with respect for her as a person. This means not viewing her as a piece of meat hanging in a market, from which I can ask the butcher: When was it butchered? What is the price per pound? What kind of grain was it fed? etc etc.
At that point we treat it like a product, and not as a person.
