Optimistic as you might be, you'll nae sway the man's position. Ugly is as steadfast as it gets; his unwavering stubbornness is legendary around here. But bless you for trying. ^_-

And we don't need to tell Ugly not to change who he is for anyone... Because he wouldn't, regardless of what anyone tells him. ^_^

Gosh I hope God never tells him then :) cause well. wonder how that conversation would go :)

If this is true, then the opposite must also be true.

A woman must dress for me and it must be about me?

I'm not going to go from Puma, Eddie Bauer and Old Navy to Abercrombie, Aeropostale, and Ralph Lauren, just to make her happy. Which is pretty much what usually happens. Or worse, they buy me flannel or cowboy boots. *barf*

No thanks. I'm good.

You shop for you and I'll shop for me.

The point here is if a girl likes you she will know what style is best for you..and it would probably be something you would wear..but maybe not baggy or holy or one note..
I doubt that if a girl loves you and knows you aren't a cowboy type that she is gonna ask you to wear cowboy boots..
get what I mean?
the key here is that whatever type you are, to look your best..
even if it's a nice tshirt, nice jeans and a ball cap if the occasion calls for it..

I am thinking this is a singles group because there are alot of people here saying "well, I DON'T LIKE" and "I WON'T"
and that is not good!
but then these same people never said they were really looking to be with anyone either.
And I will say this..
with this attitude ya'll are gonna play heck with the scripture that says when you are married your body is not your own (this doesn't just mean sex I am sure even though that's the context)
our lives are just not supposed to be about us..
they are supposed to be about others... BUT we are not all alike either..so it's within the personalities God gave us..
key is ..you don't have to have the styles everyone else has..but have some style.

(flick the chip off!)

I feel a new slogan being birthed here, move over shoes! "It's gotta be the pants".

Hahaha the reason why I gave so much thought to the pants is because I live in California, home of the ridiculously super sized pants and t-shirts look. Here it is actually necessary to say ''Please, PULL UP YOUR PANTS!'' .

Hmmm.... *IF* I could choose...boots, jeans, T-shirt, baseball cap or cowboy hat.....kinda Luke Bryan/Jason aldean-ish

No thanks. I'm good.

You shop for you and I'll shop for me.
If a guy approached me looking like one of those three at the bottom it would be very difficult for me to take them seriously. I like being the girlie one in a relationship.

I can't remember my husband buying one piece of clothing for himself the entire time we were married. Socks maybe... Not even sure he knew his sizes. :)

He wasn't all that interested in shopping (for clothes especially :) ) and trusted that I knew what he liked/didn't like/would NEVER wear in a million years. :)

You should want to look your best..
for her..just like we give our best to God..
if you feel that "your way" is your best?
then so be it..it shouldn't be about you anyway
it should be about her..
and if she loves you, it should be about you for HER..
and then everyone is happy..

but often men don't know how to dress that is their best..
and some women are gifted at it..
my ex let me go into his closet, actually asked me to..
organize his shirts by what I liked and thought might look nice on him
colors/type etc.. from the clothes he already had..
he also took me to Kohl's and had me pick out some shirts for him..
he shrunk one of them but the other one looked really good on him
color and all...
because he sensed I had knowlege of what looked nice.
it was his idea..to be his stylist..
this man wears camoflauge (sp) crocs with dress pants,
and has a huge hamburger shirt ..
to me the way he dressed often reflected in an "I don't care" attitude
which isn't loving, isn't respectful at all..it's selfish and self centered
when one only cares what one likes..

I think dressing your best, styling your hair your best (or shaving it off..which is nice too)
is important.. shaving your face, keeping your facial hair trimmed.. is important..
growing those long Duck dynasty beards might be ok for someone's wife.
for me? it's gross.. I am not going to marry an animal so I don't want my man to
have the face of one..(tho I love facial hair..just like it shorter:)

Take a woman who has been married for a time and now she wears sweats and large tshirts all day long..
so when her husband comes home that's all he sees her in,
she no longer dresses up for him, or takes care of her appearance.. she no longer cares..
this marriage is in trouble..
well it goes the same for the guys!
if I am going to keep up my appearance because I care what I look like to my man..
then so should he..
any attitude other than that is not loving.

BTW this isn't my opinion it's face, from couples.. for years that I have spoken to..

I feel accepting each other for who they are is more important than faking it to impress someone. And, as i stated, this starts the first time a woman sees you. If she doesn't like what she sees, then there is a problem right there. And there are different types of women who like different types of dress on men. Some like when a men dress up more, some women Prefer guys that dress down. I'd rather try to be my best and have that be enough. Same with me. If i see a woman and don't like how she dresses, i won't bother. I wouldn't expect a woman to dress her best for me, either. I'd expect i was happy with how she dresses before things got that far.

That's cute :)

I don't buy my husband's clothes for him- but there's a lot of times I have to insist that he go get some new ones.

I would notice that he needed new socks/underwear/tees and buy new ones that would go unopened until I started throwing the others away. :) He would actually HIDE his favorite jeans in his closet so I wouldn't wash them all the time. :)

When I went with him a couple of times to be fitted for a tux (friends' weddings) he would have very little to say. Clothes were definitely not on his list of interesting things. :) Except kilts. He liked kilts. Wore one at our wedding. :) It was a heritage thing.

Did he have nice legs? That was it huh? You fell in love with him for his legs. Of course, as long as he didn't look better in shorts than you do. :)

All I will say is I do NOT like long hair on a man... long hair is feminine... short hair is fine.. no hair is fine but long hair doesn't belong on men . My opinion of course :)

That's pure blasphemy of course =P (*that coming from an old school metal head of course haha) You would've hated me in my teens with hair to my waist. ;)

ha! And here i think it's awesome and wish i could grow mine back out. But alas, it is not to be. So my only option left is shaved. At least i have a beautifully shaped head and that it works to shave it =P

You don't have to have the 30 waist, or be a model, but you can have a good style ;) that's your choice:) the other stuff may not be :) !
men look great as long as they groom well and have a good sense of what looks good on them :) and how their hair can be styled..nothing wrong with taking care of your appearance :)

Interesting...and understood. Not a fan of being put on a petastool for a appearance, though...been there; done with that. At least a photographer or two got some good advertisement out of it. ^_~. It can be quite damaging on a young person's self-esteem, though.

I'm making peace with my salt-of-the-Earth 5-6/10 looks though (as a friend/coworker put it).
