Baby talk. People for whom "yummy" can apply to anything from a casserole to a "cute" new guy they just met. If a guy is "cute", he's jail bait in my book. Or those annoying fake squeaky baby sounding voices. *shiver*

I have friends who do this. Women my age. Some even older. Seriously. I don't get it.

Is it just me? Does it annoy anyone else? Why do they do this?

Do men find this attractive at all? Are there men who do this?

Please wait for the poll. :) It's anonymous, so own up.

For me it falls under the Ultra-Feminine woman thing and Hello Kitty.

The mom of a girl who was dating my son a couple of years ago was really into Hello Kitty. It was all over their house. The woman was in late 40s. VERY creepy!

I'm all for femininity. (Don't laugh) But ..wow...just ..wow

I definitely don't baby talk at babies. Then again I have a reputation as being sort of allergic to babies but, I'm okay with that.

Yeah, baby talk is on that imaginary list that I keep in my subconscious about who I am attracted to and who I am not.

I'm a little unclear about the usage of baby talk you're referring to. Do you mean talking like that on a regular basis? Or do you mean actually talking to babies with all that "goo-goo-ga-ga who's a cute baby" nonsense?

Yeah, baby talk is on that imaginary list that I keep in my subconscious about who I am attracted to and who I am not.

The main problem I have with babies is I look at them and they are adorable, but then i ask "what does he/she do" (I no longer say it). The answer is eat and crap. That is all. Also when they are really little I have trouble telling if a baby is a he or a she, which can also land me in hot water.

Give me a slightly older child so I can teach him or her the proper abus... err, use of hand tools. Or a board game would be cool or something.

But baby talk? I really worry about the sanity of people who do it, even with babies. Seriously teach the kid proper parlance form day one. And with an adult? The only people I know who wouldn't be irritated would be adult babies (and I don't know any of those people because they are freaks).

I was just listening to an anti-baby talk video where someone said, "If you are old enough to menstruate, it's time to use your big girl voice". I would post it here, but it had a couple of words in it that some folks might find offensive.

Youtube search Tiny Tirade 16:Women Who Talk Like Babies if you would like to hear it anyway.

I think baby talk is like salt. A little sprinkling here and there can be nice, but don't dump it on everything.

I have said "yummy" for men before..of course I don't anymore..
now I call them pretty..

my personality is one that has nicknames for everyone and everything..
it appeals to some and maybe not to others but since I am a child at heart..
grown woman or not? that's the me people have to contend with..
besides I am not childish just childlike :)

I don't mean the kind we sometimes use with actual babies (within limits :D). I'm talking about grown women using the vocabulary of a four year old or a fakey baby voice to manipulate men.

While I don't talk in an itsy bitsy girl voice ( I have a deeper woman voice actually :)
I do say things like Prolly, (probably) ' puter (computer) and chillaxing (chilling and relaxing) ..but maybe instead of baby talk, I actually talk gangsta talk. or maybe I talk "gangby" or Baybsta"??

it's all Cheyspeak for me :)

oooohhhhhhh....

Um, I agree with JimJimmers. A little here and there can actually be kinda cute (in SOME people's opinions anyway - choose your audience wisely!), but constant usage is annoying, and to use it for manipulation is AWFUL.

I don't do it with children, but I sometimes do it with my cats. Not often, and it's usually followed by a sarcastic, non-baby-talk comment. For example, when I see my sleeping kitten, "Awww, who's a tired wittle boy?" and then "It's like you were at work all day. Oh no wait, that was ME. You bum."

I hate it when people do it all the time to their pets, though. Makes me want to barf and smack them upside the head with the Grow-Up stick.
