taken from God's Word for the Biblically-Inept, Women of the Bible
Answer these if you'd like.
I will use some Hebrew definitions from the manuscripts they are taken from for a clearer picture into whats going on here.
(1.) Adam was allowed to eat freely of trees figs, food etc ,things of that nature. But thee tree, of knowledge of good and evil, he and Eve were commanded not to eat if it, or they will die.
Genesis 2:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Notice the emphasis on, no shame ; concerning their being naked...
(2.) Adam named Eve Genesis 3:20. Her name means life giver. When you learn about Christ genealogy in Luke, you see He was decedent from Eve. That is why she has this name of life giver. Because through Christ we can live eternal ..............
(3.) Satan ( Rev 12:9 ) began his seduction of Eve ( 2 Corinthians 11:3 ), with a lie.
Genesis 3
3 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Satan is mentioning a single tree here.
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
( She says of the trees, like that produce figs and fruit of this nature, they were allowed to eat. )
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
( But of that specific tree, if they touched it , they would die. )
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
( Lie. The tree of knowledge of good and evil closes the eyes. And he is saying it opens them.
The word tree as used in verse 3 is
עץ
‛êts
ates
From H6095 ; a tree (from its firmness ); hence wood (plural sticks ): - + {carpenter} {gallows} {helve} + {pine} {plank} {staff} {stalk} {stick} {stock} {timber} {tree} wood
It comes from its the prime word :
עצה
‛âtsâh
aw-tsaw'
A primitive root; properly to fasten (or make {firm }) that {is}
to close (the eyes): - shut.
Yet he said, it would open her eyes.
It is also derived from `atseh
עצה
‛âtseh
aw-tseh'
From H6095 ; the spine (as giving firmness to the body): - back bone.
This gives a clearer picture of the kind of tree this is. The spine is trunk , the arms are the limbs. etc God uses trees to dscribe people many many times through the entire Bible. One example of many is : Ezekiel 31.
(4.) Well maybe those three things you can take an educated guess for yourself when you learn the meanings from the Hebrew they were taken from:
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
It started with the eyes. Gazing at it. Notice it is pleasant to her eyes. and to be desired, to make one wise.
The word pleasant ; means from whence it was translated from:
ta'avah
tah-av-aw'
It's Prime is
'avah
aw-vaw'
a primitive root; to wish for:--covet, (greatly) desire, be desirous, long, lust (after).
Desired here is :
chamad
khaw-mad'
a primitive root; to delight in:--beauty, greatly beloved, covet, delectable thing, (X great) delight, desire, goodly, lust, (be) pleasant (thing), precious (thing).
You see it was enjoyable enough, were she also involved Adam in it.
A important word here to learn the meaning is the word Touch of Gen 3:3. In the Hebrew manuscripts; it dose not simply mean touch . But old English often employed the use of euphemisms .
Touch- Hebrew
naga`
naw-gah'
a primitive root; properly, to touch, i.e. lay the hand upon (for any purpose; euphem., to lie with a woman); by implication, to reach (figuratively, to arrive, acquire) etc.
Study into the word " fruit " of verse 6, give more details of whats transpired.
Fruit - Hebrew
priy
per-ee'
from 'parah' (6509); fruit (literally or figuratively):--bough, ((first-)) fruit((-ful)), reward...
The word priy or fruit ,is often used in the case for baring children ; example the same word is used in Genesis 17:6. and many other places.
( A bough, a main branch of a tree. )
And you can do more detailed studies that give you even more understanding into God's words about this. Christ teachings are the best about this though.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. If I had need to tell you. aprons are not placed over the mouth .
They made aprons of fig leaves. Its also part of the Parable of the Fig tree Christ taught us. Have you read it ?
(5.) The concurrences:
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Satan has placed on his this title. To go upon they belly , is a statement of moral degradation. There is no lower one can go, then to the height if a snake. Snakes are known to literally eat the dust as they sense the air. But in this case its symbolic for the acts he has done. Again Christ informs us that, serpent is one of Satan's names ( Revelation 12:9 ) .And in Ezekiel 28 as you read, was is recorded as being in Eden.
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
There was separation placed by God, between the woman's seed, and following with who is being addressed here, the serpents ( Satan ) seed.
This is also the first prophecy in the Bible about Satan & Christ. Christ's heels would be nailed to the cross, because of the progeny oh this wicked one, as Christ himself teaches ( John 8:38-45 ; Matthew 13:36-43 ). But, at the end, when Christ returns after the Lords Day as recorded in Revelation 20, Satan's head gets it. The serpent is tossed into the lake of fire to turn to ashes from within as recorded in Ezekiel 28 kjv.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
There is a deeper meaning for this verse. thorns and thistles, Christ would say, that that thorns would come up and choke the word. Christ used these things in many of his parables and the apostles also. Cain is not listed in Adams genealogy, because he was not Adams child. If you track the Kenites through History and recorded in God's words, they took control of the temple later on and are the ones that gave our Lord such a hard time and eventually killed him, under the leading of Satan as written, he entered Judas for one.
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
The last result was they would die. Read 2 Peter 3:8; one day to God is as a thousand years to man. Adam and Eve would not quote make it to even that, and they died, as God told them they would. They lived close to one Lords Day.
They would also have to accept the Tree of Life if you are familiar enough with the scriptures yet, is Christ. Remember in the Beginning was the word. And the word was with God.
Christ words concerning the sons of Cain. Revelation 2:9; Revelation 3:9 (King James Version)..
