  1. What instructions did God give Adam about the trees in the Garden?
  2. Who named Eve, and why was that name chosen?
  3. How did the serpent begin his temptation of Eve?
  4. What three things were attractive to Eve about the forbidden fruit?
  5. What consequences did God give Eve, Adam, and the serpent?

taken from God's Word for the Biblically-Inept, Women of the Bible

Answer these if you'd like. :)

I will use some Hebrew definitions from the manuscripts they are taken from for a clearer picture into whats going on here.

(1.) Adam was allowed to eat freely of trees figs, food etc ,things of that nature. But thee tree, of knowledge of good and evil, he and Eve were commanded not to eat if it, or they will die.

Genesis 2:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Notice the emphasis on, no shame ; concerning their being naked...

(2.) Adam named Eve Genesis 3:20. Her name means life giver. When you learn about Christ genealogy in Luke, you see He was decedent from Eve. That is why she has this name of life giver. Because through Christ we can live eternal ..............

(3.) Satan ( Rev 12:9 ) began his seduction of Eve ( 2 Corinthians 11:3 ), with a lie.

Genesis 3

3 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Satan is mentioning a single tree here.

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

( She says of the trees, like that produce figs and fruit of this nature, they were allowed to eat. )

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

( But of that specific tree, if they touched it , they would die. )

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

( Lie. The tree of knowledge of good and evil closes the eyes. And he is saying it opens them.

The word tree as used in verse 3 is

עץ

‛êts

ates

From H6095 ; a tree (from its firmness ); hence wood (plural sticks ): - + {carpenter} {gallows} {helve} + {pine} {plank} {staff} {stalk} {stick} {stock} {timber} {tree} wood

It comes from its the prime word :

עצה

‛âtsâh

aw-tsaw'

A primitive root; properly to fasten (or make {firm }) that {is} to close (the eyes): - shut.

Yet he said, it would open her eyes.

It is also derived from `atseh

עצה

‛âtseh

aw-tseh'

From H6095 ; the spine (as giving firmness to the body): - back bone.

This gives a clearer picture of the kind of tree this is. The spine is trunk , the arms are the limbs. etc God uses trees to dscribe people many many times through the entire Bible. One example of many is : Ezekiel 31.

(4.) Well maybe those three things you can take an educated guess for yourself when you learn the meanings from the Hebrew they were taken from:

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

It started with the eyes. Gazing at it. Notice it is pleasant to her eyes. and to be desired, to make one wise.

The word pleasant ; means from whence it was translated from:

ta'avah
tah-av-aw'

It's Prime is
'avah
aw-vaw'

a primitive root; to wish for:--covet, (greatly) desire, be desirous, long, lust (after).

Desired here is :

chamad
khaw-mad'
a primitive root; to delight in:--beauty, greatly beloved, covet, delectable thing, (X great) delight, desire, goodly, lust, (be) pleasant (thing), precious (thing).

You see it was enjoyable enough, were she also involved Adam in it.

A important word here to learn the meaning is the word Touch of Gen 3:3. In the Hebrew manuscripts; it dose not simply mean touch . But old English often employed the use of euphemisms .

Touch- Hebrew
naga`
naw-gah'

a primitive root; properly, to touch, i.e. lay the hand upon (for any purpose; euphem., to lie with a woman); by implication, to reach (figuratively, to arrive, acquire) etc.

Study into the word " fruit " of verse 6, give more details of whats transpired.

Fruit - Hebrew
priy
per-ee'

from 'parah' (6509); fruit (literally or figuratively):--bough, ((first-)) fruit((-ful)), reward...

The word priy or fruit ,is often used in the case for baring children ; example the same word is used in Genesis 17:6. and many other places.

( A bough, a main branch of a tree. )

And you can do more detailed studies that give you even more understanding into God's words about this. Christ teachings are the best about this though.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. If I had need to tell you. aprons are not placed over the mouth .

They made aprons of fig leaves. Its also part of the Parable of the Fig tree Christ taught us. Have you read it ?

(5.) The concurrences:

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Satan has placed on his this title. To go upon they belly , is a statement of moral degradation. There is no lower one can go, then to the height if a snake. Snakes are known to literally eat the dust as they sense the air. But in this case its symbolic for the acts he has done. Again Christ informs us that, serpent is one of Satan's names ( Revelation 12:9 ) .And in Ezekiel 28 as you read, was is recorded as being in Eden.

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

There was separation placed by God, between the woman's seed, and following with who is being addressed here, the serpents ( Satan ) seed.

This is also the first prophecy in the Bible about Satan & Christ. Christ's heels would be nailed to the cross, because of the progeny oh this wicked one, as Christ himself teaches ( John 8:38-45 ; Matthew 13:36-43 ). But, at the end, when Christ returns after the Lords Day as recorded in Revelation 20, Satan's head gets it. The serpent is tossed into the lake of fire to turn to ashes from within as recorded in Ezekiel 28 kjv.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

There is a deeper meaning for this verse. thorns and thistles, Christ would say, that that thorns would come up and choke the word. Christ used these things in many of his parables and the apostles also. Cain is not listed in Adams genealogy, because he was not Adams child. If you track the Kenites through History and recorded in God's words, they took control of the temple later on and are the ones that gave our Lord such a hard time and eventually killed him, under the leading of Satan as written, he entered Judas for one.

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

The last result was they would die. Read 2 Peter 3:8; one day to God is as a thousand years to man. Adam and Eve would not quote make it to even that, and they died, as God told them they would. They lived close to one Lords Day.

They would also have to accept the Tree of Life if you are familiar enough with the scriptures yet, is Christ. Remember in the Beginning was the word. And the word was with God.

Christ words concerning the sons of Cain. Revelation 2:9; Revelation 3:9 (King James Version)..

It is encouraging to know there is truth out there. But note, Christs words, which are the words of God we aim to study, did not make Christ popular with the religious community of His day. It really dose offend people, to see the word of God taught this way. That is fully, with understanding. As you get closer to the truth, things get harder.

Fewer and fewer by your side the higher up that mountain you climb.

My eyes need rest from the screen. Have a good day people. Be back later perhaps.

Genesis 4:

1

And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

2

And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Again - Hebrew

yacaph
yaw-saf'

a primitive root; to add or augment (often adverbial, to continue to do a thing)

She continued in labor, seeing God separated the two seeds, and see continued in birth: it would mean that Cain and Able were paternal twins . By two different fathers.

I had always suspected they were twins but never actually committed to studying the Hebrew for this particular scene (and I don't know why..). Nice! Thanks! And the seed is whichever word one accepts and receives. Truly Cain had another father...one does what their father does.

I was curious nathan3 have you heard of Satan seed theology where some believe Satan had sex with Eve. Do you believe that?

I think you mean what is called "Serpent Seed." It's being discussed in the Arnold Murray thread...as for who believes what, I am losing track...

Question: "What is the Serpent Seed doctrine?"

Simply stated, the serpent seed doctrine teaches that the sin of Eve was not simple disobedience, but sexual contact with the serpent, and that Cain was the son of Eve and the devil. Cain’s descendants are, according to this idea, the sons of Satan, and this includes most any race or group that the serpent-seed believer chooses to dislike.

I don't believe that Eve had sex with satan. I think that if she had, the Bible would straight out tell us so. The word used for sexual relations in the OT is 'know' and it doesn't say anywhere that Eve knew satan.

I believe that the seed of satan is moreso choosing to make him ones father, as opposed to following God and calling God Father. In the NT this becomes clearer.

John 8:43-44
"Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

God's "seed" is his word (Luke 8:11), and so by this reasoning satan's seed is his word (the lie). Christ's words are also "spirit" (John 6:63), so by this reasoning so also are satan's lies his spirit.

We all (both man and woman) are from the earth; dirt/soil, in which seeds are planted to bring forth fruit. So I believe what happened between the serpent and mankind (BOTH adam AND eve) is on a much higher level than sex. Sex is a fleshy shadow that speaks to the higher truth of planting seeds/listening to words/receiving spirit.

Indeed mankind received satan's seed over God's in that instance because they "listened" to the serpent rather than listening to God; they received the serpent's word over God's word...but Adam was ALSO from God, so what man was from that point forward was the very thing the forbidden tree reflected; mixed fruit (i.e. fruit that was good & evil), thus necessitating a second birth (i.e. being "born again").

And as we who have faith are *true* children of Abraham, those who lie and murder are *true* children of their father the devil.

This is how I understand it.

wrong. Non one knows who they are. so you adding that in yourself that it includes every race. thats ignorant and a lie.

Christ said, its those that are claiming to be of Judah. They are focused in that group. But by all means it dose not mean they all are. NON one knows. Christ said to leave them alone, in his parable, but teach about that they are there. They will be gathered by the angels on Judgment day. But you seem to like to make stuff up or quote gossip sites rather then study on your own.

I went into the manuscripts . And given the definitions from the Hebrew for these words. Its plain to see. Did anyone read the notes i posted ?

One of the basic lessons that can be derived from Adam and Eve is that it is human nature to want what you can't have. Many sins are based on this principle.

I agree and then add to this the blame game. It was the womans fault - it was the serpents fault. The serpent was like the talking donkey. It was all about temptation - being tempted to have more than God had given them -- to realize guilt when they have been caught in disobedience -- try to cover the lie up hiding under a fig leaf. While the glory of God shone on them like it did on Moses, the glory faded and were naked - the light was missing. They were driven from the presence of God and brought back in through Christ. Where the first Adam failed, the second Adam saved them and all mankind - everyone born of woman. The second Eve is the Bride of Christ. What happened - Eve was born of Adam (the womb of man) First Adam--Eve---Second Adam. The chain was followed down through the ages and the Lord made sure there would be a written record to follow the heritage and the promise that was made in the Old Testament was fulfilled in the New Testament. Like the New Testament says - you cannot put new wine into old wine skins --- take the New Testament and go back into the Old because the promise was fulfilled.

I would not agree on this. They NEVER ate of the tree before Satan came in the picture and we have LORTS to learn why thi happened. Satan DECIVED Eve and she ate first, why then did God put the sin against Adam? 1 Timothy 2:13 says Eve was decieved. and in 2 Cor 11:3 it says the serpent BEGUILED (seduced wholly) so she ws completely fooled by the devil. That is why she ate, but Adam? He just ate and he ws never seduced or decieved, is that why God put the sin to his name, or is it that he should have NOT EATEN and fall for the same lie as his woman.

We have to remember they did not eat from the tree for quite a time. But when Eve had a coversation with Satan, that is when the problems started. I wonder if Adam would have eaten if he did not SEE his wife eat? But I suppose it was still all in God's plan.

Here is the thing... if there were no instructions, then their would be no transgression. Although 1 Tim 2:14 says Eve came into transgression the sin is still acredited to Adam. But just for simplicity look what teh verse says WE SHOULD DO....

2 Cor 11:3.... But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

The instructions were not given to Eve but to Adam who was supposed to teach his wife correctly. Eve was beguiled or seduced into sin but Adam should have intervened but did not. The instructions were given to Adam and he had the primary responsibility for obedience. Both sinned but not in the same way. Eve was weak in one way and Adam in another. It is the basic difference between male and female. It is human nature. Adam was of the earth and put in the garden. The blame game does not matter because we all need salvation. That is the point - women are not better than men and men are not better than women which is what Christ taught in the New Testament.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
KJV
Genesis 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
KJV
Galatians 3:28
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Why degrade and demoralize women who were also created in the image of God. Do you really think this makes the Lord happy?
