Has your church ever had to ask someone to leave the church?
If so, for what?
If so, how did you go about it?
And if so, how was it perceived by the congregation?
 
Talking and making a causing a ruckus while The Bible is being read. That is one reason some one would be asked to leave. Cell phones are on everyone today, and some people seem to to think its okay to have a conversation while the pastor is teaching everyone the Bible. That is the only reason I can think of .

I'll tell you one story. When my sister was younger, she entered a church with her friends family. Her girl friend, was talking loud laughing, and carrying on about this that or the other, without any consideration for the people around her or the Bible being read.

Her friend, and her, were asked to leave. It was very embarrassing she said to say the least; as they were sitting in the center of a very large gathering of people.

It was probably received with one big AMEN if I know those demons in sheeps clothing.
 
I was kicked out for stressing that Jesus Christ was a Jew. This was in the late 1960's, and I used only the Greek name for our Lord at that time, and for about 35 more years. It was sad, traumatic, but I still think fondly of the entire assembly, no exceptions..........

I'm talking more about leaving the church for good, or for a season. Not just a service.
 
there have been a few circumstances where people were put out-of-fellowship temporarily. In 2 of the 3 cases, they came back within a few weeks, once they resolved(repented of) the sin. It took the other guy 5 years, but he came back.
Kicking people out isn't hard, but the sign of a Christ-like congregation is if they are accepted back in.

The deacons dealt with the problem as a group, and the congregation was informed the following Sunday. Details were lite, unless the person made a public confession.

I have been involved in seeing the wrong way, the perceived right way[Letting the pastor and deacons deal with it] and the Matthew 18 way and the Matthew 18 way was by far the best.

As already stated, the removing is not the issue its the restoring that counts and sadly, I have been around more removing than restoring.
 
One church I attended, the pastor made a public statement asking the church members to not have a friendship with a lady. The Pastor said she was asked to leave because she was selling and using marijuana. This lady claimed that God made it so it was OK to use and sell. She was encouraging Christians to use this drug.

A few weeks later she repented and was invited back into the church.

Also one time at this same church, a teen was wearing a T shirt with a beer can on the back. A man came up to the teen and scolded him for wearing that to church. The pastor over heard the man speaking to the teen and corrected him. The pastor said all are welcome no matter how they are dressed.

What if it had been a topless lady on the t-shirt? Would the pastor still say ''all welcomed no matter how dressed''? Does he consider those converts who are weak to alcohol?

If Jesus paid the world an anonymous visit in the flesh and spoke all that was on His mind and in His heart He would get kicked out of every church and banned from every Internet discussion forum.

We had a man in our church a couple of years ago approach a married woman and tell her that the Lord said to him that he would be her husband someday. He said this within earshot of her kids. Another elder in our church and myself approached him later and told him that his actions weren't appropriate and that if couldn't see that it was wrong, he would need to leave the church. He said he would get back to us the next week.

So myself and 2 others elders met with him, and he was still absolutely sure that God told him that, and told him to tell the woman. At that point, I said that I knew for a fact that God wasn't speaking to him, because it was completely out of order, and there was no support or verification of this "word" and that he couldn't be a part of the church until he could accept that.

I ran into him last week (I hadn't seen him in about 2 years) and he made some nice small talk. He closed by asking me when he could come back to the church. I told him that when he was ready, he could sit down with the leadership and we could talk over the things that happened. He got all huffy and walked away.

It would be a great thing for him to be restored, but people can't just walk back in pretending everything is fine, or that it never happened. That's the proper balance between mercy and accountability.
 
Not to go on a tangent, but I was kicked out of a car club for talking about God after they asked me not too. Kinda backed the President into a theological corner one night. He didn't like that, and well, he's the prez.

I've seen people asked to leave an individual service, and I've seen individuals who were asked to stay away until they repented. I've seen people who repented welcomed back with open arms. As it should be.

And if Jesus came back anonymously, I hope He wouldn't be banned from this forum. But Zone would give Him some grief :rolleyes:

I was kicked out for reading and believing the Bible... I think it should work the other way around. But this time it was the leacven that kicked out the unleaven dough. Why do people hate the Word of God when it clash with their church practise?

Why do people HATE 1 John 3:9? Imafgine we were all born of God, then we will be in heaven... WOW! Why do some "born again christians" hate 1 john 3:9, and matthew 5:48, and 1 Cor 14:34, and and and?????

Because they are NOT churches of God. God says if a brother sin against you go to him and repremand him, if he persist take two or three with you and go to him again,,, if he still persist, take him before the whole church, and if he still persist,.... KICK HIM OUT.... Well today if you go to a church to bless them with the Truth, they KICK YOU OUT... but God said that will happen.
Here is the sinners kicking out a SAINT. Not Saints kicking out sinners? WOW!

Anyway both these situations is in the Bible. Saints will be chased from false churches, and sinners (leaven) will be removed from THE unleaven church (The Body of Christ) The ONLY TRUE church God has on earth, is holy and perfect! Maintained as such by Christ HIMSELF...

Oh my friend just like they did the first time He was here.... Let me bet you all I have,,, Jesus would be crucified here on CC. He will be banned the first day. Why? People do not know him. They say He is their saviour, yet they are sinners... WOW! Is he such a failure to save? How weak is the Jesus they claim is in them?

I know ONE Jesus, if He enters into you, HE MAKES YOU A PERFECT MAN RIGHT ON THE SPOT... But He does not enter into filth. He died so you can be cleansed, and HE rose so HE CAN MOVE INTO THE CLEANSED PERSON... and THEN THAT PERSON IS ONE WITH JESUS AND JESUS ONE WITH HIM... That is the Jesus they will CRUCIFY AND BANN HERE ON CC...
 
Mat 18:15-18 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

I Cor 5: 1-5 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father's wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
 
Only Christian counselors produce real change in people! Unlike secular psychiatrists, we have GREAT hope that people can change; we KNOW that they can. We have sure hope that the Holy Spirit will empower change. We have great patience with people who fail to change. And unlike secular counselors there are teeth behind our counsel. Not changing sinful behavior patterns is unacceptable.

Cobus -God did not make YOU a perfect man on the spot. Not "perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." And that is the only acceptable standard of "perfect". What OTHER type of perfection do you believe you received "on the spot"?
 
If there is sin, and Mat 18 has been followed with patience, REPEATING each step as many times as the Holy Spirit leads, and there is no effort to do away with the sin, it is LESS cruel to exclude the person than to commit them to the "rumor mill". Once a person is put on the "rumor mill" there is no way back to full fellowship. People are unsure how to act towards the person. A person asked to leave can be restored publically to fellowship. God's way excludes the gossip rampant in so many churches.
