Now having an idea of when the new year begins, throughout the course of time, Christ was born at a certain time of the year. Christ was 6 months younger than John "The Baptist" (his cousin). John was conceived around the time when his father Zacharias completed his term in office as priest.

Luke 1:5
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

This chart shows us how King David divided up the priest's office accordingly, starting from the beginning of the year to the end. Zacharias served the 8th term of the year, which was around the time of early July.

These verses will define the table above.

I Chronicles 24:
1. Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

2. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office.

3. And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their service

7. Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,

8. The third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,

9. The fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin,

10. The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,

11. The ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah,

12. The eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,

15. The seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses,

16. The nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel,

17. The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul,

18. The three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah.

19. These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.

[h=3]3. Christ's age difference to John the Baptist[/h]The angel appeared unto Zacharias during his ministration to let him know his wife will bear him a son.

Luke 1:13
But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

Elisabeth became pregnant after her husband Zacharias executed his term as priest. In the 6th month the Angel appeared unto Mary to also give her a message …

Luke 1:
24. And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,

25. Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

26. And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27. To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

30. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

[h=3]4. Summary[/h]Here's a summary of all materials mentioned above.

The calendar used in the Bible starts around Spring time which is in the time period of late March to early April.

Knowing when the Biblical year starts, we see how King David divided up the priests office during his time. When Zacharias became priest, he served in the stead or in the same month of Abija (or Abia - which is called in the New Testament). This month was around early July (being the late 4th month of the Bible calendar).

Mary became pregnant 6 months after John was conceived. This will make Jesus 6 months younger than John the Baptist. Six months after John was conceived will be around the time of early January (being the late 10th month in the Bible calendar).

A normal pregnancy will last for 9 months. Nine months after Jesus was conceived will be around the time of early October (being the late 7th month in the Bible calendar).

Our modern day calendar is not accurate because of so many modifications, but it gives us an idea of the time when JESUS was born, which was around early October.

oh,i never meant to seem as though i was "forcing anything on anyone",,,,the o.p. ask if we believed that he should or should not have a talk with his family member in regards to Christmas and if we thought it was wrong to give children gifts on that certain day. so in fact we as well as those who follow Christmas were both invited to state our opinions.,,

in the o.p. it seems to be only addressing "gift exchange" on that certain day but then in the last few sentences he states that "it takes away the true meaning of Christmas",,,so it seems unclear the position of the Arthur of the o.p.,,that is if it takes away from the meaning,,(giving/receiving presents),,,but notice there is no mention that the day is for any religious preference but rather that kids would "miss a part of their life" which would mean that (the author of the o.p.) assumed that as the children became adults they would no longer have the same view on the matter.

then he makes his final statement/question,,,,"i need some advice.should i talk to this guy and try to change his mind?If so,what should i do?",,,so the invitation for advice is opened in the o.p. by the author. ,,,this guy(his adult nephew),,,he(the author) ask,,,,"try and change his mind",,,,which is as you state "raining on his parade, forcing his religion on his nephew and family",,,,if you refer to my original response(post 25),,,it is completely devoted to "having others force their religion on me and my family",,,,it is a two way street,,,,,,,
:) s'ok, no worries............my comment was 99% tongue in cheek........way I see it, folks should do what they believe they are led to do.............celebrate or don't, buy gifts or don't...........

as for me and my house?

The Birth of our Messiah is celebrated in the Bible. :)

Matthew 2

8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

The thing about Christmas that I struggle with is telling kids that there is a Santa Claus. How can you tell your children not to lie or be deceitful, when you deceive them? I struggle with it cos I believe that kids should be kids, and should use their imagination and that kind of thing, but I'm not sure telling kids that Santa Clause travels the entire world in one night and comes down a chimney is right. Thankfully I haven't any kids, so I haven't had to make that decision yet.

:) Oh Brother, where art thou?

I agree we should celebrate His life..........so, if the Christ had not been BORN, how could we celebrate His life? Praise God every day of our lives? Yes! Praise God that He gave His only begotten Son........Yes! Had Christ NOT been born, He would have not been crucified and resurrected........what then would we have to celebrate?

God did not command that we love Him............He does not command us to believe in His only begotten Son.......so, do we NOT love Him, or NOT believe in the Name of Jesus because it wasn't commanded?

ONE DAY.........JUST ONE DAY we who love Christ choose to celebrate the birth of the Christ child.........JUST ONE DAY. How in the world is that not celebrating His life, and giving all the Glory to God?

Now, you do as you wish my brother.........but as for me and my house, we will celebrate God/Jesus every day, and ONE DAY, JUST ONE DAY............we will celebrate the GREATEST GIFT GOD EVER GAVE TO THE WORLD.........

THE CHRIST CHILD!

Saviour, Lord, Cornerstone, Good Shepherd, Morning Star, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, the Living Word, Master, Teacher, Lamb of God, Messiah, Prince of Peace............

PRAISE GOD!

Matthew 1:18) Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 .) Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 .) But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 .) And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 .) Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 .) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 .) Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25 .) And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

For most the 25th December will mean a day from off from work or school etc.. a day where most things close down.

Now while i'm no longer partaking in the customs of the "heathen" so taught by my family who are not yet Believers.

I have come to see that by default it is a day when we have more time to marvel and enjoy the Gift of Salvation from our Gracious GOD.

All Glory to GOD.

Most likely around the Feast of Trumpets, 4 BC.

Why 25 December, was He born on 25 December, and is the presents like the three presents He got from the men of the east?
Does X.mas have to go along with presents. Can I celebrate His birth on another day? I know His birth was celebrated, but is there a COMMAND to do so? Why not?

Is Xmas in the Bible? NOPE! There is no Christmas in the Bible. Maybe we can make up something, but when did the Christmas as we know it today start? When did they celebrate Christs BITHDAY except for the day in Bethlem? I see no evidence that it happened again. But I have nothing against people that want to celebrate it, just do not make it a bad thing if I do not! Then you make your own celebation a mysary.

I will feast with any person any feast, if it is in honor of God. It is like the holy communion... rather eat at home.... Celebrate the gifts at home, do not bring them to my house.... Our gifts is in heaven and they will be opened THEN! We, including my children, do NOT WANT GIFTS HERE.... Thank you...

Christmas steak and chips... lets GO HAVE SOME.... And some nice cold Cola with it... LETS GO, Chocolate Ice-cream and sauce LETS GO P_rehbein and Loveme1. I will gladly feast with you just leave the presents for the moths, rust and fire.... But let us CELEBRATE His Birth ANY DAY you want.... Do we have any proof that Jesus was born on the 25 December? Was that not too cold for shephds to be in the desert? Just asking....

Christians weren't told to celebrate it anywhere in the Bible.
An no Christians saw fit to celebrate christmas until centuries after Jesus.

:)

I served you up a really slow pitched soft ball for you to hit out of the park.........and you MIFFED!

I SAID: God did not command that we love Him............He does not command us to believe in His only begotten Son.......so, do we NOT love Him, or NOT believe in the Name of Jesus because it wasn't commanded?

YOU SHOULD HAVE HIT THAT ONE OUT OF THE PARK BROTHER! :):)

What are the Two Greatest Commandments?
(oh well, I tried to give you a sure winner.............sigh)

Now, back to Christmas.....Decemer 25th is just a day.....me personally, I believe that the Early Church realized that a lot of Christians were in the habit of celebrating the pagan holiday on that day before they became new believers, and the Early Church leaders wanted to redirect the celebration to honor and glorify God and Christ Jesus......

AND IN MY OPINION.......'dem mean old nasty pagans had that day (December 25th) long enough.........time for us Christians to take it away from them and make it a day to Celebrate God and Jesus Christ! Shoot, we'll show them!

I'm all about CHRISTMAS IN JULY! :) Or Christmas every day of the year! Oh, and that steak 'n' chips sounds pretty good to me.......not that big on turkey anyway.......

As for the gifts thing, to me that is just another way to express one's love for others.........husband, wife, mother, father, children, grandchildren, other family, friends, whatever.........and Jesus did set a pretty good example did He not? I mean, what a GREAT GIFT He gave us all!

Anyway, just picking at you........... :) God bless
