Should that be so, why so many denominations and religious groupings in the world today?
I do not follow your thoughts. Could you elaborate?

Men are fallen. They will always disagree and find reasons to turn on one another.

Great point... I think corruption is one of the reasons, man seeking power..

But if we go to Jesus as a child and listen... Through The Holy Spirit He speaks to us.

Love you and I really don't know just my thoughts...
Right, it just our thoughts somehow because if the HS really speaks to us today, we all who claim about the HS must be in unity, whether in teachings or in doctrines for there is only one HS, right?

It is Jesus who teaches and not the HS and Jesus is just right beside you at all times, come to Him and talk to Him, ask Him to teach you the truth and wait for Him to respond to you, and when He does, simply acknowledge Him and His way of coming to you and you will be in good hands with the Lord Jesus Christ and He will send you the HS to fill you with Him (HS).

This is a road to arrogance, delusion, ignorance, and confusion.

That was in response to alexis who said the HS speaks to us thus my post. There is only one HS and if the HS really speaks to us today, do you think people who read the bible would go differerent ways in seeking God and their salvation as warranted by various religious denominations today?

And when is coming to Jesus today a road to arrogance?
What you wrote assumes man can be purified. It doesn't consider the constant struggle with the flesh that we endure. Providential guidance is one thing, but to claim that a man can simply look to Jesus with his heart and know the truth conclusively is folly. People will fall back on their wills to justify crimes and claim Jesus told them.

We will never be truly one until the Day of Redemption.

No, there has to be a standard. That standard is has been given to us written down. It rests outside our wills. It is meat. It is sufficient.

You deny He speaks through the Bible? You trust your inspiration over that which God set as the standard for millennia?

Christ and the Bible are not one and the same. But the Bible is authoritative.
Authoritative in what sense considering Jesus said that the scriptures are they that testify of Him, did Jesus say the scriptures are authoritative over men's souls and spirits? I trust the Lord Jesus who taught us that He only is the one who is authoritative over all.

Did I deny He speaks outside the Bible? No. But the Bible is our special revelation.
The one special is the Revealer himself and not the ones which are just testimonies to Him. If we come to Jesus, He can utter to us the whole pages of the genuine scriptures.

They have gone various ways in the past with the same thing in mind. What's to stop them from doing so again?

How are you to know they are the genuine scriptures when they are spoken if you don't use the scriptures as a standard?

What of Matthew 5:18. Jesus himself quoted the Old Testament with regularity in the New Testament. It is through the Word that his authority breathes and will be so until He returns.

Did God speak to Samuel, a man born under the same sin nature as we are. Did God change. When did He say7 I will speak to this man but I will not speak to this one. Did not God Speak to Pharaoh, Did He nor speak to the ruler of the canaanites when Abram said she is my sister. If He can speak to sinners, how much more believers.

What better medium to speak to all of mankind than the written word?

This resembles gnosticism. How do you know the road to salvation, how do you share it others without the direction of scripture? What will set you apart from the mormons, Christian scientists, etc? In a generation very little, because human arrogance will take over.

OneJack,

By accepting Christ He will speak to you through The Holy Spirit was my point...

I hear His message of love loud and clear

I have no idea why other men sin, why churches argue and disagree, I have no idea if any others listen to the Holy Spirit
I have no clue about distruction and disagreance. I have never prayed to Jesus asking why churches disagree or any of this...

Simply I know Jesus and He fills me with love and guides my heart and speaks to me through The Holy Spirit
love is the main thing He tells me, to love you all to love everyone.
so, I still say yes God speaks to you if you listen.

Perhaps these disagreeing many do not listen I don't know you would have to ask them.

You make good points and I mean this only to clarify how God speaks to me.
love you and God bless,
lexi

Jesus already told us the way to salvation! Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. Do you propose we deviate from what God already said is salvific? Right there in black and white?

Yes, I do believe God talks to us today and therefore we have to put all our trust in God and we should come to Him and learn from Him instead of forcing ourselves to learn and understand by ourselves in reading the scriptures, let us seek the help of God himself who can talk and teach us in bible matters.

This is so true too The Bible is God's words. No need for a burning bush, we can simply read Christ's own testimony.
then listen to The Holy Spirit who guides our hearts

Conotocarious you are very wise! Thanks for all you share

Yes in these days we must test all by scripture and if we do not know scripture then we are lead astray. In revelations Jesus is outside the churches and appealing to the individuals saying behold I stand at the door and knock.

Nobody said He didn't aid us in understanding. But there was original intention when the words were written down. Historical context, philology, syntax. They all contain meaning.

Are we not called to love the Lord our God with all our minds as well as heart and strength?

Are we not called to hide His word in our hearts that we might not sin against him?

Are we not called to keep the word?
