I wear pretty much whatever I want to church. I've worn jeans, dresses, skirts, costumes... the costumes were for shows, but y'all know what I mean.

As long as it's modest, who cares? I've gone to church dressed up and I've gone wearing a hat. See, I really doubt God cares if I'm dressed up or not. Because he sees my heart, not what I look like.

For about 3 years my hair had blue and purple highlights in it, my make up was dark, and I was a pretty messed up chick. But the church I was attending didn't care... okay, some people did, but most didn't. They were happy I was there and that I was letting God do stuff in my life.

Oh, and any guy who thinks that a woman should wear nylons in 100 degree heat obviously hate women.

usually i leave my more expensive clothes at home because i don't want to have anyone who is poor feel uncomfortable,i wipe down my wheel chair and take a shower so i don't get anyone sick if they kiss me,,and i wear sneakers still to this day because i want to be ready when Im filled with the spirit(old habit, but watch out for my wheel chair, lol),,,past that at the old church we had the offerings house(a building behind the church where we took clothes and household things) we gave them for free,i dug thru the clothes and would tell every one when they ask what brand that it said "righteousness",,,,on every tag

I dress however I want. I don't want to look like a slob but I really could care less if someone else is dressed like one. That whole ''respect'' argument is something I don't care about either considering we disrespect God daily. I doubt the most shameful part of our un-Christianly duty is not wearing pantyhose or a tie on Sunday. If you are the type of girl who wears booty-shorts to church well BRA-VA, I am super happy you even made it to church in the first place. And you know what? I'll be there shaking your hand good morning.
Double brava!

Rom 2:1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3 Do you suppose, O man--you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. This is for 4ENLIGHTMENT: Adam and Eve were naked and had no shame BEFORE they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Once they ate the fruit, they hid themselves in the garden. Adam told God that he hid himself because he was naked. Why did he hide himself? He was ashamed. Your other scripture you quoted, well if you want to wear a camel hair's outfit with a belt around it, and eat honey & locust, then ok. Are your clothes that you wear today made of camel's hair? NO. Do you wear only a belt around you? NO. Do you eat wild honey and locusts? NO. So your scriptures don't really hold up for today's world, do they? Both scriptures you quoted is pretty out of content for what I said.

I doubt the disciples wore their 'Sunday...ooops Saturday Best' each time in Jesus' presence.

I think they did, when they went to the temple

Here is a little story for you. I was visiting the country I used to live in and attending the church that I used to attend. It had grown considerable because at the time I was there, we had a visitation from God because I and a few others committed ourselves to prayer.

The meeting was fairly open and free flowing and then a lady about 35 was asked to speak. I sat back and relaxed to hear what she had to say and within a few minutes my mind was sidetracked as I realised that every piece of clothing she wore showed everything that was underneath. Talk about tight. It left nothing to the imagination.

After the meeting I was introduced to the lady and started to converse with her. I said that I was a happily married man and had no interest in other women but I was aware when she was out the front that she was wearing what I considered inappropriate clothing as it left nothing to the imagination. I suggested that she dressed more modestly so as not to cause offence.

Apparently she went to the leader in tears and complained about my comments and that afternoon I had a visit from a couple of church leaders about the incident. They were annoyed that I had not gone to them first (which the scripture does not require) and to tell me they were happy with the way she dressed. I thought it was obvious God wasn't that is why he had to get someone from outside to comment on it.

The sad thing is when you have church leadership that approves of suggestive and inappropriate dress, you are up the creek without a paddle. I am not a collar and tie person but I know when to draw the line.

It is dis-honor to the Sabbath, and to God and irreverant in his house for those who believe that the Sabbath is "the holy of the Lord, and honorable", to wear the same clothes on the Sabbath that they wore through the week while working on their farms,
when they can wear other clothes.

worthy persons with their whole heart will honor the Lord of the Sabbath.
If some can't find a change of clothes, let those who are able, donate a Sabbath suit,
that they can appear in the house of God
with clean, fit clothes.
Those who spend much on rich clothes, could use self-denial as an example of a pure religion,
by wearing simple clothes and use the extra money to buy the poor person a similar set of clothes so all look the same and none need be embarrases, and at the same time help their poor brother and sister.

The custom of dressing up for church started after Constantine pronounced all of Rome Christian and turned all the pagan temples into Christian churches, so called. He would drop in unannounced for the service so the folks began dressing up,in their sunday best just in case he visited their particular church. The habit stuck.

Dressing up is wrong
dressing clean and nice is right.
Whatever you can afford, your special clothes are not to be worn on the other days.

You dress to what you believe. If you believe you are going to the house of God then you will dress accordingly. If you believe you are going to hang out in a building to hear some guy talk for a while, then you will dress accordingly.

Sabbath is not a ceremony for the Gentile. It is simply fellowship with other believers. The house of God is... in us! not any building.
Dress comfortably and modestly (modest: as in not too expensive, attention grabbing, or revealing).

If you are in a church that looks down on people for coming with jeans and a tee-shirt, find a new church. That one is dead.
"Tradition is the corpse of wisdom." -Zed
Christ did not create a formal religion. Why has church fellowship been turned into a weekly formal event?

James 2: 1-6 (NASB)
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.
For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes,
and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,”
have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
But you have dishonored the poor man.

our attitude more important than our dress?
is James saying we should expect different modes of dress, yet not let it lead us to preferential treatment?
(or judgement?)

not that we should dress immodestly...ever, not just at church. :)

Don't dress for success, just be presentable. God looks at the heart motivation, not the label.
So if you were called in for a review by your boss, how would you dress? When one goes to Sabbath services, he/she is appearing before the God of all creation, both physical and spiritual. Just show up in ragged jeans and a sloopy t-shirt and God will be overjoyed that you deigned to pay Him a visit?

Well I dont go to Sabbath services...I go to church on sunday mornings. I dress as is apropriate for the general atmosphere of the church. That being said normally nice jeans, dress shirts, sometimesd sweaters. Its a very informal church which is nice.

Actually, we are in the presence of God at all times. . . . in our pajamas in the mornings drinking coffee . . . in our work clothes going to work . . . . in our worse jeans and t-shirts gardening or going fishing . . . He sees us as we are at all times. That is not to say that we dress sloppily going to church or any other occasion just as long as the clothes are clean, pressed (yes, I still iron) and modest . . . I'm sure God doesn't really care!
