If there was one thing Jesus was big on, it was making sure your skin stayed as lily white as it could be... Right? Guys? External appearances were his big deal, yeah?

What are you talking about ? Do you think the Lord reason and act like profane humans do ?
The Scripture is inerrant by nature !

It's written : " For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. "

Isaiah 55:8-11

It's not an "art form" nor a "media" it is a ritual. In most cultures the tattooer licked the blood off of the being tattooed to "seal a bond"

How many practices are you going to justify?
We can follow sin and the root of sin to the nth degree in all things. Yep, a piece of fruit that God created. Does that mean that all fruit is bad? How about snakes...are snakes in themselves innately a conscious existence of evil? I'm being rhetorical here, and I fully understand what you are saying, but I do believe Christ is all in all.

Christ is our freedom, our redemption, and He has taken back what was stolen. For me, tattoos. I have 7 tattoos. One existed before I came to know The Lord. The other six have scripture on them or attached to them such as Psalm 18:2, John 4, Matt 16:24, to name a few. I have ideas for more. My conscience is solid and it is actually a joy to be able to walk into my tattoo shop and see my artist and have everyone witness a believer there. They swear, have wicked looking pictures around, half-nude images, a real den of iniquity. And I walk in, talk about Jesus, my faith...who He saved me from becoming...it's the journey I'm on. It's kind of like John 4 at the well...He shouldn't be there, talking to her alone, etc.

I will share one or two reasons, you don't have to follow the same as me or believe as I do and I'm not trying to convince you of anything and you don't have to agree with me.
This is in love, but sometimes we need to be reminded of what we said earlier...

Brother 38miles, you rightfully said " Christ is our freedom, our redemption ". Now what do you have to realize is tattoos are a mark of slavery to the prince of darkness, quite like the future mark of the beast.
Why Christ would want you to have a mark of slavery to the prince of darkness His greatest enemy in the Universe?
No way !
Do you think the Lord would justify your other tattoos because they have Scripture on them ?
The Lord forbids !
That's an extremely great offense to the Lord !
But if you realize your great mistake after you read the sound doctrine contained in the Scriptures
( and not the twisted version preached by false teachers who fear men rather than God )
and you repent and abandon it,
the Lord will forgive you.

You're in great spiritual danger right now, and I wish you fully come to the Lord ASAP !

It's written :

" And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. "

John 8:32

A Christian shouldn't hang out in such a place controlled by the devil. "Abstain from all appearance of evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Hello everybody I have a question that was brought up in our young adult discussion at my church.. What's your thoughts on Christians getting tattoos?? Is it wrong why or why not??
Scriptural or not, why would a Christian want something commonly associated with the proverbial "drunken sailor"? Why would anyone want that which is most commonly seen on worldly people? Forty years ago, if someone had told me that, in the 21st century young women would be getting themselves tattooed I would not have believed it. Please tell the young adults at your church that a desire for a tattoo is a desire to identify with something they should not. Tell them not to do something they will regret in years down the road.

When christians ask is it right or wrong about having tattoos. they automatically quote Leviticus laws.
[h=3]Leviticus 19:28
You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.[/h]I personally don't think its wrong to have them, obviously longs its not offensive, rude, or demonic, or anything bad. Because we are not under law, but under Grace. So the laws in Leviticus don't mean as much to us today as they did in there times. I'm not saying, hey go out a get a Tattoo, but its depends on your own personal conviction, and how you see if its right or wrong.

Thanks for your heart and I do perceive where your heart is coming from. Scripture is scripture, but we also need to remember that God judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. He deals with each of us individually. Was another apostle knocked down, blinded, and converted in an instant? Did all the apostles walk on water with The Lord? Did anyone but Peter deny Him three times? Oh but they were jealous, and there was definitely some debate over who would be able to sit at Christ's right hand.

I may may have been too honest here in sharing that I have tattoos. Obviously in real life, we would never approach a brother in Christ in such a way. But, such is the internet, and the fault was mine in sharing something personal, and quite tied to my heart for God. If that just brings judgment from the believing world...well, I cannot do anything about that. But, if it brings inquiry from the unbelieving world...well that is something entirely different and I will be grateful for it.

I'm sorry, I thought the allusion would be clear. I'm talking about this passage from Matthew: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.

External appearances, including literal external appearances, have so little to do with spiritual status.

Brother Tintin,

Are you saying Jesus approves tattoos and would deny His own Holy Words ?
Because He wouldn't care about " external appearances " ?

That doesn't sound like the real Jesus of Scriptures to me,
but rather like the future false Jesus friend with the works of Satan : the future Antichrist !

It's written : " For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. "

2 Timothy 4:3-4

Very sadly, in this day and age, this prophecy is now fulfilled, and I don't find it hilarious at all !

Brother Richie,

Before God and any child of God, tattoos are offensive, rude, demonic, and absolutely bad !
Because tattoos are works of Satan !
So because we're under grace we should continue in sin so that grace may abound ? The Lord forbid !
It's written : " What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? "
Romans 6:1-2

And it's also written : " Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. "

Matthew 5: 17-20

Now if you disagree with what is written in the Scriptures, it's not with me you wrestle, for those words don't come from me, but from Jesus Himself !

Brother 38miles,

You're welcome. Understand that I'm no diplomat,
but I did my best to warn you of the great spiritual danger you're in right now !
Understand that if I had better diplomatic skills I would have known how to warn you in a more diplomatic way, but well, that's all I have for now.

I didn't want to hurt you in any way. I admit I'm not perfect myself; just like you, I also have issues to deal with my old me from the ancient world, and I long for Jesus to free me totally from the guiles of Satan soon or later.
At least, I'm aware of my infirmities, and only an omniscient and omnipotent doctor could heal me,
and only Jesus could be this omniscient and omnipotent doctor, for He is the Doctor of doctors !
It's already infinitely much better than to think your infirmity is not an infirmity and you don't need Jesus to heal you.

Wish you the best in life. Really.

Brother Sebastian,

Jesus never intended this passage to justify any kind of sin ! Actually, hypocrite scribes and pharisees didn't observe the commandments at all ! They were adulterers, idolaters of money, robbers, blasphemers, etc.
In fact, if hypocrite scribes and pharisees were still alive today and someone would pay them to publicly endorse tattoos or any other kind of worldly practice, they would accept it in a heartbeat !

" External appearances, including literal external appearances,
have so little to do with spiritual status. "

Tattoos have nothing to do with usual " external appearances ";
it's a pagan practice and an auto-mutilation !

Understand that tattoos are works of Satan, and Jesus hates all works of Satan,
and it's an extremely great offense to Jesus to distort His words to try and justify any work of Satan !
If you read the sound doctrine contained in the Scriptures

I do not feel that I have offended Jesus. When he tells me that I have - not some third party - then I will believe it. Until then, you're the young woman in the lunch room spreading rumors about who said what about whom, without any real knowledge, just hoping to stir up fights.

Matthew 23:26 Blind Pharisees! First cleanse the inside of the cup, and then the whole cup will be clean.
Brother Homwardbound,

Jesus strictly forbad His chosen people to get tattoos.
It's written : " Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord. "

Leviticus 19:28

Jesus never came to abolish the law, but to fulfill it !
It's written :
" " Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. "

Matthew 5:17-20

Also, it's an extremely great offense to the Lord to distort His words ( like Satan did in the desert )
to try and justify any work of Satan !
If you read the sound doctrine contained in the Scriptures
( and not the twisted version preached by false teachers who fear men rather than God )
you would realize your great mistake
and you would repent and abandon it,
and the Lord will forgive you. Actually, hypocrite scribes and pharisees didn't observe the commandments at all !

Tattoo is a pagan human tradition, and modern hypocrite scribes and pharisees are trying to suppress the Lord's commandment forbidding tattoos in favor of that pagan human tradition. Just like in Jesus time.

It's written : "
But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. "

Matthew 15 : 3-6

What is written in the Scriptures doesn't come from " some third party ", but from Jesus Himself.
If you want to wrestle with what is written in the Scriptures, it's not with me you would wrestle, but with Jesus Himself.
" you're the young woman in the lunch room spreading rumors about who said what about whom, without any real knowledge, just hoping to stir up fights. "

I don't understand all what you said here. And I'm a man, not a woman. And sir, you don't know me, I'm not looking for fights here, but I'm looking for establishing the truth and warning people of the heresies propagated by false teachers in sheep clothing, like false teachers who justify tattoos by distorting what Jesus truly meant !
But I understand you accuse me falsely because you don't want to hear the truth, just like Jesus prophesied.

It's written : "
The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. "

Matthew 10: 24-28

It's also written : " For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. "

2 Timothy 4 : 3-4

Claiming that 'most' cultures utilize something in a certain fashion, doesn't mean that that practice is inherently wrong in its nature. By that thinking then music, knives, animals all must also be wrong as those are often used in pagan rituals. Just because something is utilized by some groups in a wrong fashion doesn't make that thing wrong in general.
Let's look at these:
5fe3b055edc62441a26b66d1c0ec1d56.jpg 49.jpg guy-aitchison_work_49.jpg
Now..... what if one of these tattoos were permanently painted on the side or front of your church, never to be removed or covered? What woulld the public think? What would your church think? What would God think?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV) [SUP]19 [/SUP]What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [SUP]20 [/SUP]For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (KJV) [SUP]16 [/SUP]Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? [SUP]17 [/SUP]If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Now, let's ask some questions:
* Does it matter what the public thinks about your church? Does it matter if the pictures on the church offend the public? Are we smart enough to believe what our church looks like matters to the public, yet stupid enough to think that pictures on us doesn't?
* Are we smart enough to get God's permission/okay to change the look of our church before painting pictures on it, but stupid enough to believe we don't need God's permission to put permanent pictures on ourselves?

Which is more important to God, the church building, or the people in it? Which has the most influence on the world, our building or us?
