I know shows like American horror story: coven shouldn't be watched, but what about anime like bleach? And what if you know you can watch something without emulating it or obsessing over it while watching it in moderation?

American Horror Story is actually a pretty fantastic series. I guess if you can realize its just television and not obsess over it you should be fine. I watch AHS, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, True Blood, and more regularly and yet still manage to live a productive fruitful life.

things like this comes down to personal conviction. we all need to learn to be honest with ourselves and most importantly with God. if you watch these things and you fell convicted or tempted do not watch. simple as that.

I don't think it is as simple as that.

If we look just to what man has learned about the brain, without listening to God, we find that anything it sees and hears is retained always. Different people have different sort of filters to assess all that goes in, but still some of it stays there apart from this ability to put a value on it. That is why the younger the child the more damaging TV is to them.

If we listen just to God, what we let in the mind is of upmost importance. Read Phil 4:8!! Follow through the concordance what clean and unclean means to God.

Being convicted or tempted isn't but a tiny part of it, it is what God tells us that is the part of it.

Funny how people watch sin "in moderation", & because they use that phrase it's alright. That's kinda like saying "I snort crack in moderation".

see, the problem with the 2 above posts, will all due respect to my elders, is this: we have liberty in Christ. some of us just want to make rules . not everything that someone does for pleasure is sin. all things can be turned into sin if we let it rule over us. but watching a t.v. show, as I said if it does not convict you or tempt you is not a sin. now I am not talking about porn or anything like that. we all need to make our OWN decisions about some things, not folks make rules, that really are not in the Word by the way, for us.

to those who have gone before them ? Did you not know that
when a person puts their toe in water to test it, it is still getting
wet? I feel really sorry for the misleading I have seen on a
Christian site.
For the "wise elders" God bless you all for taking a stand.
The OP asked.... we did not force our answers on an unsuspecting
person. We gave answers because HE ASKED.
I pray God can help those who are still dabbling in the supernatural,
get delivered before judgement day comes. These horrendous movies
and videos are demonic and you can't white wash them. God is the
One we choose to please. He holds our eternal life in His hands.
I pray for deliverance from the ignorance or deception to leave those
who really want set free.
God help those who can't help themselves.

Don't think liberty in Christ is liberty to feed your spirit with pictures of sin. And this "no rules allowed" isn't of Christ, for Christ talked about obeying rules as they are given in how to physically obey, but Christ added to also obey with your mind and spirit. There is no scripture to tell you it is fine to explore and be tempted as long as you don't give in. In the Lord's prayer it addresses this in "lead me not into temptation". I hope you weren't a child in a home with no rules. I don't think our home with the Lord is without rules, you wouldn't like it if that was so.

Agree!! 1 John 2:15-17 is one of my favorite verses but some posters need to understand that the word "love" can mean some sort of "fixation" in meaning. We all are aware of the verse that the love of money is the root of all evil. It doesn't mean money is evil or one should not like money. I believe the Lord want us to think twice about the consequences of our actions and how it will affect our relationship with Him. Presently, I just don't have the stomach for 90% of the dark stuff. Some posters should realize that if the Book of Revelation were to be made into a movie, it would make some of the scariest movies in the secular look like child's play. And some of the best christian movies I have watched have some very dark themes. Some Christians who can't handle the dark side should not watch it. Personally, I never watched these dark movies for pleasure but for knowledge.

That is a LOT different from movies, books, and TV whose aim is to make sin look like fun. You are talking about looking at truth, even if it is dark. We are talking about distortions of truth, a completely different kind of darkness.

Yes, I understand where you are coming from. I believe those christians who have a thoroughly solid knowledge of the Bible will successfully filter out reality from fiction. But since so few christians do ... your point is well taken.

look, if it bothers you to watch secular shows or movies or whatever, then do not watch them. no one says you have to. but please do not condemn anyone who watches a horror movie a satan- worshiping hell-bound sinner. and, not to be disrespectful, but just because someone is my elder does not mean I have to agree with them if they are off-base.

There must be a point where we become offended by the world. At the very least it is evidence to our hearts that God's desires are becoming ours. I do believe it goes as far as what we spend our money on, what we invest our time in, and what we allow our hearts and minds to entertain. There are 3 bodies of attack on Christ's followers: flesh, world, satan. These 3 work together and the destruction we face personally and corporately is immeasurable right now. TV today is not the TV I grew up watching, and the FCC has totally loosened whatever grip it had on censoring out blatant sin and preserving God's moral law. The effect of sexual sin on our society is rampant, caustic, and internet pornography is the plague. We are in the greatest era of open rebellion toward God since the 60s sexual revolution. Has satan used the world's TV version of sex to bring about sexual sin in the flesh of believing men and women of today? Look up the statistics.

Nautilus, Is it entertainment? Network TV shows glamorize and advertise gay relationships. Do you realize that teenagers are seeing sex on TV like never before? I know you do because you said you watch Game of Thrones. Do you realize teenagers are taking naked photos of themselves and sending them to each other? I know this because I work on the ground floor. I see tomorrow everyday and it is a tragic sight. What entertainment is this? Just a little fun? What future lies ahead?

I'm sorry for soap-boxing here, but I'm sure this is not the time for apathy or complacency. Matthew 16:24 issues the call against self. Matthew 19:26 paints a phenomenal picture of our hearts when we have to reckon with the self we don't want to let go of. God help us.

We we have grace, yes. But the closer you walk the more you should see a dividing line. It becomes a mastership issue as you see yourself straddling two worlds: one is where we live, the other is where we profess we want to live. Which master are we under? If we find God's word communicated through those who refer to self as "doulos", certainly we should emulate them.

There must be a point where we're offended by self.

This is how I explained it to my son but I believe it is equally as beneficial of an explanation for anybody of any age since it is easily understood.
Think of your mind as part of your body.
We don't just feed our mouth and exercise to make our body healthy.
Christ told us it is not what goes into the mouth that makes one unclean but what comes out.
What comes out of our mouth proceeds from our mind.
What a person feeds their mind(subjects themselves to) plays a big role in how spiritually healthy a persons mind is.

Like with eating if we ate junk food 80% of the time and healthy fruits and veggies only 20% of the time...one would eventually rob their own body of the needed nutrients necessary to be healthy and not get sick.

Likewise with the human mind, feeding it spiritually healthy thing (Gods word) and exercising our mind in a way that is in line with Gods will produces a healthy mind spiritually.
Feeding our mind things which are detestable to God, or even questionable will keep one that much further from unity with God.
The more sin one feeds their mind the more they will attempt to justify it by reason of becoming desensitized to what God objects to, also thereby being out of touch in those areas with Gods will for us as followers.
Phillipians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.

God has already taught us how to have a healthy mind spiritually which also coincides with be of sober mind (reasonable, logical, and not insane or over reacting).

This thread isn't about condemning people, it is trying to determine what God wants of us. Age of the one helping to work this out doesn't count, God counts.

Honestly can't think of any gay relationships on 98% of the shows I watch. I mean there was one on Game of Thrones but then one of the two died..so it was like punishment right? Negate the fact his brother ordered his red priestess to birth a shadow demon that slew him...thats not important. And you know the solution to kids seeing sex on tv? Their parents doing a better job. I wouldnt let my kids watch Game of Thrones, that would be stupid. It's not a kids or teen show.

I totally agree,you summed up what I have been thinking very nicely :)
The closer I draw to God I find the more "wordly" show's I simply can't tolerate the way that I used to.


I'm not here to judge what anyone watches I'm far from perfect,I'm just working out what I feel comfortable with personally.
After some soul searching I think I need to avoid supernatural type shows..ever since I was little I've been fascinated by movies like "the exorcist" even at the age of 10,I think it effects me personally as it later tempted me into the pagan community. Yes the tv shows movies I watched were what drew me into it! it goes to show what a powerful influence tv/media can have on us.
Also shows like gossip girl/ the oc I know I personally can't watch as these glorify money and make me start to idolise money.
But I personally don't feel effected by violence for example..though I know the scriptures say we shouldn't allow our mind's to dwell on ANYTHING that isn't Godly and pure the simple fact is we live in a fallen world and we can't avoid everything.
Anyway I hope this post has helped others to stop & think about what there allowing into there mind's like I did.

Maybe this little portion may help you understand where I am coming from.
How do demons gain access into our lives?
Due to the scope of this teaching, I'm not going to list all the ways that a person can have a demon, but I would like to show you how a believer is quite capable of acquiring a demon through defilement.
In Colossians 2:13-15, we learn that by the forgiveness of sins, the demonic spirits are disarmed (spoiled) and their legal grounds are removed:
"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it."
As believers, we have a spiritual hedge of protection around us, but in Ecclesiastes 10:8, it becomes evident that we can break a hole in our hedge and be bitten by the enemy:
"He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him."
There are several good reasons to believe that this is speaking of spiritual serpents and not physical. The first part of this verse, speaking of falling into a pit, is also mentioned in Proverbs 26:27 which has a clear spiritual and not physical context. Psalms 7:15 also speaks of digging a pit, with a very obvious spiritual context. In verse 9 in Ecclesiastes 10, it is telling us that if you remove stones (which form a wall of protection) you will be hurt, which is physically untrue 99.99% of the time. Verse 11 tells us that the serpent will bite without enchantment, which is also true 99.99% of the time. The Bible is not a gardening or home improvement book and if it were speaking of physical snakes, then it would be basically telling us never to take down hedges because we will be bitten. That would be absolutely ridiculous.
Paul warned the believers in Ephesians 4:26-27 not to commit sin and therefore give place to the devil:
"Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil."

I am trying to save any person who has chosen to test the supernatural.
