First of all, Hi everyone:D

I disagree, I think that tithe is still a mandatory show of faith for bible believing Christians.
"Why?" you ask?
Well, I'll tell you.

I believe that the whole reason anyone thinks tithe is no longer required..
is because nowadays everyone believes everything that requires them to show an active of faith was nailed to the cross.

Things that were actually nailed to the cross were regarding the book of ordinances regarding the sacrificial law for atoning for sins.
Reason being the true passover lamb had come and had been offered up for sin for all mankind who would accept and OBEY Him.
Non of the health laws of Moses were nailed to the Cross and the tithe was established with Abram/Abraham it had nothing at all to do with the sanctuary.

God's not a shy fellow if anything were to change in His way of doing things I'm sure He would have said so but that means you have to go against these verse.

For I am the Lord, I change not; Malachi 3:6
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Oh yeah, Jesus also made this reference to tithing

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mintand anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

Emphasis on "
These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone."

There's no biblical reference that tithing is no longer a obligation.

Jesus loves you all
Kind regards

My fault, I don't believe we are to Tithe. I am suprised that some here are NOT standing up for what their denomination teaches. Some baptist teach you tithe, correct me if I am wrong Rodger.

Many Christians churches are exploiting their flock by making the demand for a tithe by using the OT. Greed at its worst.

Many denomanitions teach we are to tithe. Does the church of our Lord teach this?

In the Old Testament they were commanded to give 10% that equaled to sometimes 23-25% they were also fined 20% if they didnt make the 10%. The good thing was you were killed like not keeping the Sabath.

1 Cor. 16:1,2 teaches us to give on the first day of the week as we been prospered.

The bible teches if we are trying to hold on the Old Law we have fallen from Grace Gla. 5:4

LUKE 6:38
give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Tithe, does the bible command it for the Christians?

Monetarily speaking, following Jesus requires a LOT more than the concept of a tithe, no exceptions.
"Christian" is an abused term that refers to a follower, not a casual believer, it means "Christ-like"
For that, the bible specifies much more than a tithe. Following is an outright dare to those who have the guts and involves giving money (and more) away down to the last dollar, and not just necessarily once.

"Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence."

When Israel had conquered the promised land the tribe of Levi did not receive an inheritance. Instead of getting property to grow crops and raise animals they were assigned to teach the Law and care for the synagogues. When all other eleven tribes give them each a tenth, that essentially is their inheritance. We as Christians should give what and when is required. If we see a need we should fill it. We are all a holy priesthood. If we are able to contribute, do it. Whether it's our time, money, talents or gifts, we use all we have fulfilling the Great Commission, to spread the Word of God to the ends of the earth, and strengthening our church families. In Acts 2: 47, it states all believers shared all they had with one another equally. It wasn't ordered by Law its just loving one another.

1 Corinthians 16:1-4

Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come. And when I arrive, I will send those whom you accredit by letter to carry your gift to Jerusalem. If it seems advisable that I should go also, they will accompany me., I hope this answers some 0f your questions

Tkyles please answer these questions about tithe:
1. Tithes as the law describes it comes from agriculture/livestocks and in the case of abraham spoils of war - can you show where in the bible say that you give tithe in terms of money (silver, gold or coins)
2. Do you or members of your church give tithes at the end of 3 years?
Deu 14:28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:
3.after collecting the tithe do you give the tithe of it as heave offering? And what is the best of the tithe v30? And do you eat the money v 31?
[Num 18:26-31] v 26% Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe. %v 27% And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshingfloor, and as the fulness of the winepress. %v 28% Thus ye also shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give thereof the LORD's heave offering to Aaron the priest. %v 29% Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it. %v 30% Therefore thou shalt say unto them, When ye have heaved the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted unto the Levites as the increase of the threshingfloor, and as the increase of the winepress. %v 31% And ye shall eat it in every place, ye and your households: for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.
4. Iam assuming this was not done, so every sabbath when your members go home, they feel sinful rather than blessed because they did not pay their tithe accordingly?
5. If not paying tithe is a sin, And Jesus asked you did you pay for your sins? Would you say, you paid them all except tithe because I paid them? No need to answer this.

Well you're still missing the fact that the tithe that took place every 3 years along with other ceremonial tithes were apart of the ceremonial law which we know actually was one of the things nailed to the cross.

Kind regards

So which tithe are you referring?

When you refer to tithe in Mat 23:23, pay tithe of
a. mint; b anise c; cumin -are these not agricultural tithes?

Those tithes are referenced because of their cost and value, not what they are made of.

since you reply to the query addressed to tkyles: what is the "cost and Value" of a gram of anise, cumin, mint during those days?
I stand corrected, my apologies. I should have thought a bit more. I had the frankincense and myrrh in mind when I said that.

@watcher, thanks for being alert and pointing that out to me.

Tkyles....Were the cermonial laws engraved in stone? I would like to have the verses if yes. Thanks

Actually, they were not fined if they did not meet the 10% tithe. They had to tithe regardless. They were told they could "redeem" the tithe if they wished, but had to add 20% to the value of the tithe.

To "redeem" means to buy back. They had no option to hold back the tithe. They were to tithe. Then they could exercise the option to "buy back" the tithe if they so chose to do.

See Leviticus 27:30-33

Did he?
Luke 10:7 (KJV) [SUP]7 [/SUP]And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
1 Corinthians 9:3-14 (KJV) [SUP]3 [/SUP]Mine answer to them that do examine me is this, [SUP]4 [/SUP]Have we not power to eat and to drink? [SUP]5 [/SUP]Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? [SUP]6 [/SUP]Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working? [SUP]7 [/SUP]Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [SUP]8 [/SUP]Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [SUP]9 [/SUP]For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [SUP]10 [/SUP]Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. [SUP]11 [/SUP]If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? [SUP]12 [/SUP]If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. [SUP]13 [/SUP]Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? [SUP]14 [/SUP]Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
"They which preach the Gospel" was not speaking of Church Elders. Yet is correct. Paul taught that the Church elders were to work for their sustenance and to support the poor. (Acts 20:33-35)

Jesus did tell the scribes and Pharisees they were to continue tithing. But notice what they were not said to have tithed? MONEY.

The tithe of money was not a requirement of the Mosaic Law. Only agricultural products.

You cannot produce one Scripture that commands the New Testament Believer to tithe his or her money. The only commands in the Bible concerning tithing were agricultural, and only to the Levites, the widows, the orphans, the foreigners taking refuge in Israel. No one else was authorized to receive tithes.

So, in order for you to preach that we are commanded to tithe our money, it is incumbent that you produce that command in Scripture. God says worship is in vain when commandments of men are taught as if they are doctrines. (Matthew 15:9 )

Well you're still missing the fact that the tithe that took place every 3 years along with other ceremonial tithes were apart of the ceremonial law which we know actually was one of the things nailed to the cross.

And you are missing the fact that God said He gave His Holy tithe to the Levites. (is your pastor a Levite? ) You are missing the fact that the other tithes that were commanded were for the widows, orphans and foreigners in Israel. (is your pastor living in Israel? is he a widow? an orphan? a foreigner to Israel? )

The facts are, tithe were restricted to the land of Israel. There is no command for other peoples or nations to tithe or to receive tithes.

Leviticus 27:34 These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.

God loves a cheerful giver....

In the O.T. 10% off the top--->straight to the priests
anything over was an offering
Malachi---> A man can rob God in tithes and offerings

Malachi 3:10-12 is also a conditional promise. It is not required that you keep the condition (though if you don't it says you are robbing God, Malachi 3:9), but if you want the benefits of the promise you will fulfill the condition of the promise.
