Well I do think there there is a certain feminine allure about long healthy locks. Up until Friday my hair was all the way down to my hips, but I just got 4 inches chopped off because I hadn't cared for the ends as well as I should have. Now that I have freshly trimmed ends I'm going to take better care of it and grow it back to hip length. I just love long hair on myself. It can surely be a headache but I almost always wear it or braided or in a bun so it's manageable.

It's true that it does take forever to grow. It took me 4 years to grow my hair from just below my shoulders down to my hips. The things we girls do :p
Four years, really? That's surprising. It took only 3 for me to get mine from the ol' military High-and-Tight to my waist. Then I would typically knock 6-8 inches off every year at either Thanksgiving or Christmas. A couple times, I took a BIG chunk off to donate...it would be funny to watch, because I'd go to a local cosmotology school who would do the cut for free if you donate. When the student would walk back with the donation cut, the other students would all look at the station I was at to see just how much was left, and would all be shocked when they saw that I still had hair just past my shoulder blades. ^_^

I can attest to each point here as well, being a fellow curly-haired gal. I once straightened my hair AND wore my glasses to work, and at the meeting that morning, one of my coworkers stared at me for the longest time trying to figure out who I was before he realized it was me!

There's pretty much no use of me straightening it in the summer, because as soon as it's humid, POOF.

I'm not quite sure what the OP means, but the only person I grow my hair for is myself and when I donate it. It will likely never be short because I don't like it short and it's curly and doesn't work that way anyway, but I would hope my husband would be fine with whatever.
funny you mention the humidity. i hate umbrellas, and living in the PNW, as much as it rains, i still don't usually bother with them. however, when my hair is straight, it only takes one fat raindrop and there it goes...

needless to say, i do have an umbrella in my truck for "straight" days.

well, you get the award for being the best hair grower, ever. : )

according to the lady who cuts my hair, the rest of us are limited to 1/2" a month (which pans out pretty accurately in my case).

color me jealous. : )

ok well is there anything you do with a specific mind of "this is for the benefit of my future spouse"? I know this is the day where we have to say that we are doing everything because it's what we want to do, but as for me, there are plenty of things to do with my personal life and simple choices that is for other people. Example: my mother will cry if I dye my hair so I don't even though I really would like to. I'm considering that a man could be given the decision making power over a small thing (like hair) as a gift. I would of course submit to whatever, but a Godly man would likely not make a personal decision for a woman for his own selfish reasons, at least I would hope, but he might enjoy or appreciate being offered something like that as a symbol. I don't know, for some reason I think it would be romantic if my future husband decided what my hair looks like, and you can always cut shorter, you can't add length. Maybe my future husband is the only man on Earth who would enjoy something like that. I'm sorry I can't think of a better example than hair, it's just easy to talk about because after all, it's just hair =P

My hair grows pretty fast. I don't know what's typical, but it's about 6-7 inches a year.

I'm already married, so I should leave this thread alone, but I'll contribute.

I have always kept my hair pretty short until I married my husband. Honestly, it never mattered to me what other men I've been with thought. I do it for my husband for one reason only; he likes it that way and I love to please him with all of my heart. :)

My desire is truly for my husband. Right now it's a little past my waistband on my jeans. I've really only been growing it out for six years. The first time I came home with shortish hair, he looked so heartbroken. I just didn't ever want to see that look in his eyes ever again. Now he loves it, and in fact, so do I. I've learned to braid it and care for it. Though it's never going to look fashionable, I love that he loves it.

I don't think Paul meant to make his words a directive, but an opinion.

I would be really careful of men who have strong opinions of such temporal, personal things about you. Preferences and thoughts are great, but not demands. That indicates that you are property, not a person.

Read the valorous woman of Proverbs 31. Her husband trusts her, not micromanages. She acts with autonomy for the good of her family in her home, in her business, and in purchasing property.

If you find long hair romantic, then I wish follicular blessings upon you. And I pray that your future husband is one who adores and respects your as the precious daughter of God that you are.

Sister if you read the post you quoted it says that a Godly man would not make demands, but since he might have opinions, I thought giving him voluntarily of my own free will the gift of being able to say for whatever reason whenever, that he wanted my hair long or short or in between or purple for that matter. Yielding to a spouses preference on haircut in no way makes you property. Property is when they hold you captive, and threaten to kill you and your family, and then beat you until you agree to keep your mouth shut and do as your told. it's not usually a spouse that does this, but is part of organized crime, and victims would appreciate if their cause not be made equal to that of a demanding spouse. Plenty of non-slave women have demanding spouses whom they love dearly, others choose to go with a more quiet type, others get kidnapped and thrown in the back of a van when out of the blue their life turns into a nightmare. Sorry if that's a little harsh but it's reality, and we need to be careful with the words we say. We will be held accountable for them.

Miss Rose, this is exactly the kind of example I was hoping for. As someone who looks up to married couples that like each other for an example for when I one day marry, I really appreciate what you shared, God bless you =)

I did indeed read your post. I just wanted to ask you to exercise caution, nothing more. Your ideas of an abusive spouses are inaccurate in their exaggeration. The reality tends to be much more subtle, like the whitewashed sepulchers described by Christ. Just be wise as a serpent as Jesus said; you are already gentle as a dove (Matthew 10:16)

Of course, the girl owns her own hair but I'm not attracted to waist-length hair or buzz-cuts (or anything in that arena). Otherwise, short or long hair, curly or straight - it doesn't matter to me. Although, naturally some hairstyles will suit certain girls better than others.

As long as women-folk respect the manliest of body-hair, you can grow yours as long or as short as you want...

If not...

I know what you mean. :)
I'd like to do something similar. It's not about him having control, it's more like a gift from me. Modesty aside, I really don't care what men think about my hair or outward appearance in general. It's MY hair and I don't need to please them. But with my future husband, I think I would like to bless him by wearing my hair in a style that he finds appealing, at least sometimes if its not convenient to do so all the time. It'sa loving way for me to express that he is the only man whose preference matters to me. Though I'm not married yet, I have seen my boyfriend's face light up when I wear my hair a certain way, and to be honest I find that's sweet.

I'd respect my husband's tastes in how I wear my hair as much as I could, but I think I may also buy him a wig for him to wear for a day so he can truly understand just how HOT it is to wear long, thick (curly) hair down.

Hot meaning temperature wise. :)

I think both understandings of the word HOT are appropriate here. :)

The Bible says his body is mine, and mine is his. We do "belong" to one another. In fact, he has kept his hair long at my preference. He always tells me that he WANTS me to keep it long, and has asked me to grow it, but there's never been a single moment when he has "told" me what to do with it. In fact, he keeps telling me if I want to cut it, go ahead. I feel like it's a gift I give him. A lovely one.

Based on that, I think I understand your concern. Control is not the same as abuse, but it can feel like it. When you are not free to make your own decisions about your body, then you're not in a good situation. While I think there would be bigger issues than hair length, it certainly would concern me if my husband suddenly started telling me how to look.

I would be really careful of men who have strong opinions of such temporal, personal things about you. Preferences and thoughts are great, but not demands. That indicates that you are property, not a person.
