Avatar was awful. The only reason people seem to like it is because of James Cameron, the man I'll also credit with ruining the Alien franchise. But yes, he's on some sort of "look at me, I'm like Ernest Hemingway, Walt Disney, and Neil Armstrong combined" kick, and people are buying in left and right. It isn't the art itself they prize so much as this new, enlightened image.
The actors you mentioned are good, but they go too big and showed a serious lack of wisdom in choosing their roles. Jackie Chan is the one I can't abide the most.
He had so much potential and he is off making movies like 1911, which I watched twice the other night hoping it would make for a good historical ride...nope.Before he went off making Communist propaganda, he should have at least watched Battleship Potemkin which was well-done Communist propaganda.
