If we were asked to give the greatest proof possible that the scriptures can be trusted, what would that proof be? Does the proof that you offer require faith or is it evidenced by what has been seen?

Hebrews 11:1, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen."

The prophecies of Tyre (Ezekiel 28) Cyrus (Isaiah 45) The crucifixion (Psalm 22, Isaiah 53), and the reigns of Babylonian, Medo-Persian, and Grecian, and then Roman Empires (Daniel) and others also provide ample internal evidence that the Bible is true and therefore the word of God.

Jesus on the cross ... the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Both

For me, I think the thing that makes me trust the Scriptures so much is that these are real people who gave their lives for what they KNEW they had seen Christ do and say. No one would die for a lie; it profits no one. This along with the fulfillment of prophecies, the historical and archeological accuracy of the Bible, the fact that the Bible has remained unaltered for thousands of years, creationism and intelligent design do fit in with what we know of science, and also the fact that there's nothing in the Bible that has or can be falsified and proven to be untrue gives me all the faith I need.

But like I said, what really gets me is that the apostles/disciples actually gave their lives for their testimonies of Christ; they had nothing to gain from lying about Jesus and being killed for it - time and time again they were given the chance to renounce their claims and testimonies of Christ, but they stuck to it and were willing to die because they KNEW what they saw!

I'm not sure an unbeliever would call this "proof" but it's certainly convincing to me.

The only proof I ever need is

John 3:16 & 17

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Proof of pure love to me.

"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
Matthew 16:18

The existence of the one, holy, catholic and apostalic church is the only physical evidence that the Holy Scripture is true.

Proof, that the Bible is what it claims to be: The word of God, does not require faith for me. Once I see the facts that men and women have found in history, and I see the trustworthiness of their testimony, I know the Bible is true. So. it is a simple mater of fact. I can proof the Bible by the bare facts of life and history. The biggest proof for me is all the fulfilled prophecies of the Bible. This is history TOLD BEFORE the "fact" . And the mathematical chance of all the DETAILS of prophecy coming true, is so astronomically beyond CHANCE , I must believe the Bible. Love to all, Hoffco

Please, ask yourself, what is the fact, the real ,whole truth of the Bible, (this verse I am reading, Jh. 3: 16?) What does it say? The part I am concerned about is, why does it say , a believer in Jesus, SHOULD ,MIGHT, be saved? This is the subjuctive mood in the Greek, the mood of possibility/probability , not fact. Without the context of 17-21, that verse is no assurance of salvation for a given believer in Jesus . only the "BORN AGAIN" is saved. This the veiled truth of Jh. 3:16. DON'T believe the LIE, that all believers are saved. LOve to all, Hoffco

Please, look at Mt.16:18, what is the clear teaching here? The Text is not clear as to who or what is the "ROCK" upon which Jesus builds His CHURCH. From the rest of the Bible teaching and the History of the Roman Catholic church, I know ,the rock is not peter or any other man. Love to all Hoffco

Many people from many other religions have 'eye witness accounts' and have died for their gods too.

Does that make all of them true too?

To die for a false god is the act of a foolish man.

Well you know, some extreme Muslims would give their lives in bombings for what they believe - doesn't make it true. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here, lol, just showing that there is a hole in that argument.
