It is interesting how (organized worship) has become...well it is time to go to church....and or some entertainment center with rock bands center stage, gymnasiums, ecumenical programs that promote winners and looser etc. while the word of God is pushed off to the side and out the door in favor of the above.....
I should add that not all do this as there are some that worship in sincerity and in truth...

Anyone who is a Christian is part of the body of Christ. The body is the church which is the church of Christ. The Christian church is the only true church.Alexander Campbell, the founder of the movement was a disaffected Southern Baptist, and his father of Presbyterian background. The movement started in the 1830's, primarily in Kentucky.
They believed you are saved by immersion baptism, they oppose creeds, including faith statements and believe they are the New Testament Church revived, and they alone have the gospel, as the OP stated.**
We had three people in my last church who were from the CoC. They were generally slightly embarrassed about some of the practices, but still held to some of the doctrines, such as saving baptism.
While I do believe that these people were genuine Christians, and they seemed to think our Southern Baptist church had genuine believers, in my opinion, it is a movement founded and maintained as a cult. So yes, I think they are saved. No, it is not the only true church and has some very sketchy ideas.

it wasnt you that offended me. I explained more in pm.Yeah I know...after reading what I wrote which was directed at the OP and what I said above, I don't feel so bad....The truth sometimes offends...and the OP had it coming as to come in here and tell us all that we will cook in hell if we do not follow CoC doctrine is contrary and like I said, every one that I have dealt with will say the things that I listed in post 51.....instead of being offended she should have explained herself and that she doesn't believe that and or her church doesn't teach that.....Having said that....in order to be a CoC don't you have to subscribe to CoC doctrine and if not then it would not be a CoC per-say!
As I stated earlier there is no evidence that instrumental music used in worship. The NT only mentions vocal singing. If someone can show me scripture where early Christians used instruments in worship then please show me. I know the apostles didnt spread the gospel by the use of them, nor did they glorify God by using them. So to me the use of instruments is a human addition to worship which on the surface there is nothing wrong with it, but can open the door to other human additions. .
9 In this manner, therefore, pray
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
Rev 5
8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:
Rev 8
6 So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
Rev 14
14 Then I looked, and behold, a[a] Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having[b] His Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps. 3 They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth. 4 These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed[c] from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. 5 And in their mouth was found no deceit,[d] for they are without fault before the throne of God.[e]
and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. 3 They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
Great point there kind sir...I posted this earlier in the thread.
For years I've been unable to answer CoC on the instruments thing, because yeah, technically the NT doesn't show instruments. And yeah, ok Psalms is OT.
But the below kinda just dawned on em today....
Jesus instructs us to pray that his will would be done on Earth as it is in heaven.
As you can see, in heaven, they use instruments for worship.
Rev 15
Thats the issue with me personally. Someone rehearsing can come across as not being genuine.Good post, Elizabeth. I don't agree with everything you've written but thanks for putting it out there. As for why the band etc. practices before the church service, that's so they hone their craft and can offer their best to God. If you're leading worship in songs etc. it's necessary that it doesn't distract from singing to God. I don't know of anyone who practices their singing or instruments for prideful reasons, it's just to improve in the craft with the gifts, skills and abilities God has gifted them.
i cant argue with you, but is Gods will to use harps? What is Gods will?So I guess if there were instruments in the OT, and there are instruments in heaven, then that seems to establish a pretty good case for instruments. Why exclude them now?
Pretty sure it's literal.Great point there kind sir...
I am not going to argue and say you are wrong, but the harp in revelation..is it a literal harp or symbolic?
Well it's literally in heaven. I'd reckon if it's being done in heaven, it's about as close to his will as ya can get.i cant argue with you, but is Gods will to use harps? What is Gods will?
I dunno. PEople are always arguing what is literal and symbolic, just thought I would throw that out there.Pretty sure it's literal.
Although hmm..what could it be symbolic for?
There are many things not mentioned in scripture, but we have to discern whether it is accepted and if it affects how we worship. For me personally instruments is too much of a distraction so naturally I am going to go to an acapella church.I love a capella music, as I am also a singer and worship leader. But I prefer variety, whether in genre, orchestration or part singing. But each to their own. How a church worships is a preference choice. But I do worry that CoC thinks it is a Biblical choice.
I do get that some churches want to err on the side of caution. If it is not in the Bible, don't do it. As opposed to - if it is not in the Bible, then it probably isn't wrong. But with the advent of modern technology, there are lots of things not mentioned in the Bible, but they do glorify God in the right situation. From movies to the Internet, God can be glorified, or sin instead.
Other than that, my strong reaction was to the OP, not you Elizabeth. I think it has been said, that the church is anyone who believes in Christ. Fellowshipping has to be part of that, to saying nothing of teaching the Word of God, and encouraging people in discipleship. My CoC friends were all mature Christians, and they must have gotten some of that along the way in the CoC. (They were in our church because there is no CoC church locally!)
It is God's will for us to have joy in our hearts and love for the Lord. For me that is playing the piano.i cant argue with you, but is Gods will to use harps? What is Gods will?
You can use anything for ungodly purposes. PEople use the bible all the time to promote ungodly agendas. Like radical religious hate groups. This is curious because a capella music can still be used for non-godly purposes. Anything can really. Well, I guess you have your convictions and I have mine. By the way, I know they're not a Christian group, but what do you think of Pentatonix? The beat-boxing guy is a mature Christian. Very cool.
