Would you go to one that is instrumental? Obviously you don't read your bible, if you did you would know judging someone who is lost is allowed, look it up and then you'll have learned something you didn't know. True Christians take the time to make those who are lost or confused like yourself as being confused to tell you the plain truth, whether you approve of it or not. Who do you think will be judging at the end of time, look it up and you will know something that will amaze you on who it is. Worship is to be done one way, it's as simple as that,

Talk about the cat calling the kettle black.

Your in here judging, and you claim we do not read the scripture because we are judging.

lol

It's called common sense, if God tells you he has authorized singing only, then just do it Ephesians 5;19 and Colossians is the authority for singing. when he has already authorized singing only Do you want God to put in there explaining to you that he doesn't want instruments, would that make you feel better, well it's not going to happen, because that would be stupid. It's a sin when you worship incorrectly. There are some stories in the bible about what happen to people who decided to do something different, the outcome wasn't good for the two.

God did not say this. Your adding to the word. Just because he did not say instruments does not mean it is not allowed.

A legalist? No, just telling the truth. I noticed you couldn't answer the question but you were able to criticize, this happens all the time when people like yourself have no bible answer, pititful.

Think a minute if you will, why would he , meaning God have to put down for you to not use instruments when he's giving you two commands to sing only, that is totally ridiculous. Ephesians 5;19 and Colossians 3;16 are your authorization for singing only, so why would you want God to tell you that he doesn't want instruments if he's already given you commands to sing only?

Where did he say sing only? Your adding no instruments to the word. Do you not feal any conviction adding to the word of God?

SHow me where it says no instruments allowed.

Nice classic auto for an avatar there 1still_waters. Can't make the year. Do you know?

And, I agree with your analogy. The Jewish high priest enetered into the Holy of Holies with bells on his garment and the psalmist commanded that God be praised with trumpet, harp, lyre, tambourine, and cymbals (Psalms 150:3-5).

"Although the prohibition against images (Deut 20:4) prevented Israel from developing an impressive tradition of visual art like the Greeks, music played a central part in its life. Every facet of its life and every stage of its history were marked by music. Music was present when people greeted each other and said farewell (Gen 31:27; Lk 15:25), when they married and were buried (Jer 7:34; 48:36), when they went off to war and were welcomed back from it (Judg 20:34; Is 30:32).

From the least to the greatest, biblical people sang and played instruments (1 Sam 16:18; Job 30:31). At the everyday level we find romantic songs, working songs and drinking songs (Song 1:9–17; 2:15; Is 21:11–12; 22:13; Ezek 33:32). Major events in the life of the people, such as the exodus from Egypt, conquering the Canaanites, recapturing the ark, dedicating the temple, crowning the king and returning from exile, were celebrated in music and song.

Indeed, the Israelites excelled in music, perhaps more than any of their contemporaries, and nowhere more so than in their corporate worship. From the beginning, music and song were at the heart of temple worship (2 Sam 6:5, 14; 1 Kings 10:12; 1 Chron 15:15–16), a tradition that continued when the second temple was built (2 Chron 29:25; 35:15; Neh 7:1; 12:27–43). The scale on which this took place was impressive (1 Chron 15:19–21; 16:4–6, 39–42; 23:5–8; 2 Chron 5:12–13; Ezra 3:10–11).

There were string, wind and percussion instruments. The number of personnel required by this extravaganza and the overwhelming atmosphere of joy and festivity are beautifully captured in several passages (e.g., Ps 68:24–27; 149; 150). All this is seen as a natural or fitting response to what God has done for his people, whether corporately (Ps 147:1) or individually (Ps 13:6; 27:5–6; 71:20–23). This role of music and song was continued in the early church (Acts 16:25; 1 Cor 14:14–15, 26; Eph 4:19; Col 3:16)." -Ryken, L., Wilhoit, J., Longman, T., Duriez, C., Penney, D., & Reid, D. G..

Nowhere does the New Testament condemn musical instruments indicating that the Old Testament practice was continued in the New Testament church. The early church was comprised almost entirely of Jews. It is highly likely that they continued using musical instruments in the church, just as they did in Old Testament worship.

And musical instruments serve a purpose in Revelations with harps lending an otherworldly atmosphere to the picture of heavenly realms (Rev 5:8; 14:2; 15:2) while the saints in heaven sing over their redemption and glory (Rev 5:12–13; 7:12; 11:17; 14:3; 15:3).

This whole belief in not using musical instruments in the NT because the Bible doesn't specifically mention musical instruments in the NT seems like hairsplitting, and doctrine building out of pure silence.

Picture this..

Dad: Eat cereal.
Me: Ok, I'm going to get a bowl and spoon.
Dad: Hey hey hey, I said eat cereal, but didn't mention a bowl and spoon, therefore a bowl and spoon aren't allowed.
Me: Well ok..but ummm..usually a bowl and spoon are just kinda assumed when eating cereal.....

Cereal = worship
bowl/spoon = instruments.

I think the association in the Bible between music and instruments is just implied. It's something that doesn't have to be spelled out anymore than eating cereal with a bowl and spoon.

Skimming the bible will do nothing but keep you lost, I urge you to really study with the right mindset, which is crucial because you are not seeing the truth.

lol. Your adding to the word. and you claim we are not seeing truth? Your listening to men. and not reading the word.

Instrumental accompaniment was not just an OT thing, It was also very popular in all cultures. God did not have to say anything about instruments, It was KNOWN that most people sang with instruments. so it would be assumed instruments would accompany,

You realy want to sit here and say God is going to judge the early church because they had a harp or some other instrument when singing praises to the lord?

Actually you really need to shut it. PEople like YOU are why many are attacked within the church. It's one thing to encourage, help, and lead a person, and another thing to condemn, argue, and insult.

I am sorry you think not playing instruments will get you into Heaven and that is your Get Out of Hell Free card, but that isn't how Christianity works. So next time you are on your knees praying to God thanking Him about how you are so glad you aren't a baptist or a Methodist or anyone who plays instruments in worship....while you are busy exalting yourself God is exalting those who are humble.

How would it be a double standard for playing the drums at home, not in the church. If I played in church I would be like the others, lost.

so. Thow shalt not play drums or you will go to hell.

where is this in scripture.. Wow I have heard everything now

I played electric guitar in my church until God moved me to another building which already had a band. I guess I have no hope of eternal life!

and you do not read. I answered the question many times.

Your a legalist because yuo claiming we must do something to earn salvation (in this case not do something which is no different)

Actually the bible tells us to not be of the world. Secular instruments; while one may not use them in worship it sure wouldn't be a good idea to use them outside of worship.
If playing drums is forbidden in worship and glorifying God then playing them outside of worship would also be forbidden as that would mean your mind isn't centered around righteousness during the time you are playing.

(I hope you all see what I did there)

yep. You just proved the hypocrisy.

Ephesians 5:18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit: Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

These verses have absolutely nothing to do with (corporate) worship, but rather describe our daily walk and how we are to be....

but be filled with the Spirit <---Is written in a present, passive, imperative form of the verb and shows a (continual) mode of action...

1. The passive aspect sets forth what it is that has caused them to be (continually filled) with the Spirit
2. The subordinate clauses as found in verses 19-20 are evidence of a continually filling of the Spirit and are...

1. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs
2. Singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord
3. Giving thanks for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

These verses set forth a way of life and what God expects of us...to be continually filled with the Spirit and the evidence of a Spirit filled believer will be evidenced in their life by finding the 4 things listed above in their lives...

A good way to describe this is if you are working and humming biblical songs to yourself while going about your business and have absolutely noting to do with corporate worship!

Man if you are going to make a stand on something why don't you stand on the word in context instead of taking 1 verse out of context and using it to teach something that the bible doesn't teach!

but we only do this one day a week for an hour and a half. That is all God wants from us, he does not want a personal every day relationship with us. You should know that!! <--- just messing)

Forty years has prepared me well.

unfortuntely. When you get to heaven and realise how you wasted 40 years of your life in legalism, and a false religion. You will be on your knees begging Gods forgiveness. I just pray before then you find his truth

I am a member of the Church of Christ, those obviously without instruments. Thank you for your concern. Are you a member of the CoC as I am?
