While I do agree that as Christians, we must filter what we see, participate in, and listen to, I also think it's important for us to use caution when judging others' Christian walk, especially those who are in the public eye, which makes it all too easy.
Several years ago I went to a bar with some co-workers. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to bars in the past 20 years, but my co-workers kept asking me to go with them. They know I'm not a drinker, and being with them in such a setting gave them an example of a different lifestyle choice, even within a very unChristian setting.
Was it a "Christian place"? Of course not!! There was even a contest to see which woman could perform the most unChristian pretended sexual acts in front of everyone.
Where was I? In another room on the other side of the bar, talking to a guy whose fiancee had died surrounding some very tragic circumstances. His Dad was a pastor, but with everything that had happened the past few years, he had lost faith.
So most everyone else in the bar was drunk and crazy and living it up... and this person and I were sitting in the back of the bar, maybe the only two sober people there, having a long discussion about life, death, and God. At the end of our conversation, he told me, "Now I know why I met you and why we're talking. I know now, without a doubt, that God exists."
I'm certainly not saying, "Go to the bars (or Hellfest) to try to win people for Christ!!!" But do I feel there was a reason I went along that night? Absolutely. And I've talked to people about their faith in very unorthodox settings, such as in prison visiting rooms with a guy who had shot both his parents.
If someone would have snapped my picture that night at the bar, can you imagine the caption? Especially if the photo was hung up at church? "Seoulsearch Goes All-Out Heathen at Local Player's Club!!!!!" (which happened to be the name of the place.)
I'm just thankful that if God saw my picture in that bar, He wouldn't have been so quick to judge.

I think "Die Religion Die" is a great song. I see it more as a jab against many of the things Jesus spoke against

An immature christian at a place like this, with the people he ordinarily fellowships with, is so dangerous. It's like taking a guy out who can't swim a mile from shore, throw him out & tell him to swim back or else. We know what would happen..... he would drown. Why is it we can see this, & cannot see people drowing in the sin that surrounds them? I've been saved for 33 yrs, in ministry for 31, & I wouldn't last in that atmosphere a week without changing to the influence.

This man fellowships with these people. He does business with them. He performs with them. God didn't throw him into that....... he jumped in by himself. Doing what's right in our own eyes isn't acceptable today any more than it was when Israel was judged for it.
Witnessing to wayward christian artists, perhaps. Witnessing to the Kings In Satan's Service at Hellfest, pleeeze.....
Pastor Stephen, I totally respect you and your knowledge in Christ. 
I just feel uncomfortable judging others so harshly, but that's just me...
We never truly know how the lives of others goes unless we've been there. He may have had an obligation (contract, etc.) to be there. I'm not trying to make excuses for sinful behaviors or choices, I'm just saying, why speak so harshly about someone we don't even know?
But again, it's just me. I respect that we can disagree, I just wanted to bring another perspective to the table. After all, Jesus sat and ate at the houses of tax collectors (which, in His day, WAS the epitome of "HellFest" to the people, ESPECIALLY the religious experts)--He even ASKED to go there. And, He allowed Himself to be annointed--humanly touched!! By a "sinful" woman.
And all the teachers of the law condemned Him heavily for it. (Being called the prince of demons is a pretty heavy slam.)
But we all know what happened... Jesus flatly told them that the tax collectors and prostitutes were entering heaven... and the the religious leaders were the ones on their way to a very warm ending.
I'm certainly not saying everyone at HellFest and other such gatherings are going to heaven... but I wonder how much God wants us to speak against such people.
How about if we pray for them and ask God to bring their hearts to Him and bless them instead? It just seems more Godly than criticism without even knowing them.
P.S. Yes, I do admit that after seeing Brian with the young kids at my church, the ones everyone else has a hard time reaching, I'm a bit biased towards believing in the good in his heart.

If I "kill all religion" as the message of this song implies directly, wouldn't I be throwing out the baby with the bathwater?

The song doesn't really imply anything, it says it all quite directly (also, he doesn't say "kill all religion") It's talking about man made rules, people that point fingers....."man made religion". Did you even read the lyrics?
Well Pastor Stephen, I know you have a beautiful heart, but all I can say is, some of us will leave the judging up to others, and some of us will just pray, all right? I can unabashedly say that I believe the best in Brian Welch and I'll choose to pray for him instead.
And, when the times come in your own life when others can easily judge your actions, locations, and motives, what will you hope others will choose to do?

I don't know who Brian or whatever his name/band is but the people in this picture especially those with the 'masks' definitely scares me to bits. I would probably scream my lungs out if I see them at night

I too have respect & admiration for your example & the life you live on here. Please understand that I cannot sway away from the truth.
The truth is Brian didn't have to go back to the group. He read his new contract before he signed it.
The truth is in the pic he's enjoying himself. I don't believe that's in his contract.

Individual readers will have to decide if they can deal with reading the story of Welch's life before his conversion. It is not easy to read about the drugs, alcohol, abuse and sexuality that pervaded his life and the lives of his band mates. Yet this was his life and he chose not to hide it. Readers should also be warned that the book contains quite a lot of profanity (lots of uses of hell, damn, the f-bomb, etc), some of it in quotations from his past, and some of it simply interspersed in the narrative. He indicates that God is helping him clean up his language but it seems strange that he would commit such profanity to the pages of the book. For those of us who value literary achievement, this book will prove frustrating as it's written by a rocker and one who clearly is not a great writer. Though he had some help in writing the book, it is still not very well written.

I pray that Brian is not backsliding. I WILL not judge him, but I have to say I'm sad if he indeed rejoined that band. He was one of the people featured on our Church's recent "I Am Second" teaching series. May the Lord continue to use him for His glory.
