So the issue is can a Christian commit a sin, or continue in a sin (such as viewing pornography) unrepentant yet maintain his salvation?
Yes I believe so because my heart was wanting to work with God to overcome it. God is patient and long suffering with us yeah?

Even after I was born again I continued to look at pornography for years, I hated it and was always sorry and trying to find reasons why I couldn't give it up. Then one day I realised and confessed to God I haven't actually repented from it. That's where I found my breakthrough.

This took guts and an uncommon honesty that is hardly found amongst God's people...I appreciate the honest response! And all glory to God the Father through Jesus!

To be clear Sea Bass...are you saying you believe you can loose your salvation? Not being mouthy just asking.

Here is the crux of the matter.

James speaks of those who have mere belief, but no faith (faith is dead) which will never save anyone. True faith produces true work (eph 2: 8-10) if the work did not follow. the faith was not real. Because since there was NO FAITH. there was no work.

ps. Eph 2: 8-9 says faith alone. The word alone does not need to be added. Faith minus works equals faith alone

Yes and I will add...

Romans--->man justified before God by faith
James---->our faith seen before men by our works

Faith-->always produces works and is evidence of a true biblical conversion!

lol I think it's shamelessness through the work of God. I hate shame, it's designed to keep you in bondage. And it's funny you said what you said, a little while ago I sent a text message out to some friends confessing my faults and desiring more openness and real talk amongst us about life and our struggles and I find they were all surprised about my honesty which made me think why? I read the word and find we are supposed to be open with each other to encourage and edify and it's an example I want to lead in the church through the Holy Spirit. No more happy clappy faces in church, looking strong but suffering on the inside. We beat around the bush about things especially sexual sins, lets get real, the world certainly doesn't..but any sorry, I don't mean to derail, just got caught in the moment lol

Where is that?

The law says you must do it over and over. Christ died ONCE to take away sin (the penalty)

Why do you want to crucify him over and over?

The penalty of sin is death Not repenting every time you sin.

No. it tells you to reach maturity. The word perfect is a bad translation.

You are perfect in Christ (In Christ the spirit is alive) But in the flesh you are still in sin (dead)

Who is teaching this? I have not seen anyone to teach not being in Christ.
I boggles my mind how you can add to scripture and make it sound like you are reading it! Paul cancelled the physical rituals that reminded Hebrews and symbolized laws, so you have it that Paul decided that he could overturn law!! All scripture agrees, every verse. If law is overturned, then Christ is, too, for Christ said that it wasn't.

And yes, when I go to the Lord with the Lord's Prayer, I ask Him to make me clean, and that is from every sin.

And now you have me crucifying my Lord!

I think the truth we are told about is very straight forward and simple. Our prayers need to follow the outline given in the Lord's prayer, we need to be aware of Christ as part of our life. To do that, we need to know that the law is every single thing that the 119th psalm says it is.

This argument comes up all the time. It's a Calvinist belief that once you are saved you are always saved. So, like I shall continue to do, I will post this video of a pastor who explains everything for you in about 20 minutes. Please watch.

Hmm maybe a better title for this thread be how Repentance to the LORD gives us security rather then Repentance vs Security. I always kinda viewed this as a process with one leading to the other.

Yes I believe so because my heart was wanting to work with God to overcome it. God is patient and long suffering with us yeah?

While God is long suffering, I believe the scriptures are clear that sin, that is continual and habitual sin, will cause one to be lost. Luke 13:3.

Do you really think that scripture means what it says? It would make life a lot easier if we could make it find a way to say the law telling us about sin is abolished, maybe we could manage to get it to say sin is abolished. Maybe someone will believe it says grace abolished sin? That sounds good. It just takes adding a word here and there to scripture.

I will stick with you, Alligator. Habitual sin causes one to be lost like it says.

by starting with the spirt, are we now trying to follow . by worldly meanings. or stand point. if, god so loved the world, that he give, his one and only son, that who ever believes in him,(the son) will have eternal life. if you believe in the son, who said I will save you. penticost came after the gospels were wrote. these three things remain love, hope. etc

I am happy for you yet wonder how you know when you really have repented.
Many men struggle with lust and pornography (something to do with biology) and will repeatedly repent and confess their sin.
For some it helps them stop but others not. Did some really mean it more than others?

It seems that the only way to judge if a person is truly sorry and repents wholeheartedly is if they stop the behavior.
That seems to be indirectly legalistic, in that you are judging actions, not motivations. Only God knows how remorseful one is after sin yet there is no way of really knowing if that directly correlates to changed behavior.

Sorry to badger on but this is an apparent paradox in christianity I have both witnessed and experienced first hand.

We are under grace, but grace is not void of law. If there were no law, everyone would be perfectly sinless.
Do you have scripture to support this? If there is no law, there is no accountability for sin, everyone would still be stuck in their sin and not know it (Romans 5:13).

don't feel bad. This is how God wants us to be. Legalism has taught men to hide and keep their sins to themselves for fear of judgment. God gives us grace so we can be open about our sins and get help to overcome them. God NEVER intended for us to break the bonds of sin on our own, if he did, the law would be more than able. but Scripture makes it clear it is not. All it can do is lead us to Christ. and show us our sin. We need help to break the bonds, See the damage it does, and change. That is where the body comes in (though the power of the HS)

I was talking to my new son in law yesterday. He struggles with some things he has done in the past. I told him to look at all of the great men of God in scripture. Think why God opened their sinful lives for all of us to see. He did it for a reason. To SHow us God still used them in wonderous ways, And he NEVER stopped loving them, even though they continued to fail God over and over. It showed their sin for our benefit. So when we struggle. We KNOW God loves us anyway, and will not punish ourselves in legalism. But move on, Confess to each other. Help each other. and continue to do what God wants us to do. which is reach the world.

it boggles my mind that you still do not get it.

Paul did not cancel ritual. Their need ceased to exist. The ONE Lamb of God who came to take the sins of the world. by which those so called ritual pointed to. Came and did his job.

You want us to believe the things which showed what MUST happen to remove the penalty of sin (death) was just nothing. and we still must do something every time we sin.

You totally missed the point of those sacrifices and what they meant and pointed to Your removing the meaning of the cross. and still trying to make it your own way.

And yes, when I go to the Lord with the Lord's Prayer, I ask Him to make me clean, and that is from every sin.

That is sad. When I go to my Lord. I thank him for already making me clean, and ask his help to make me open about my sin, To confess it to those who can help me and show me why I struggle so much. And thank him for his grace. knowing I deserve his wrath, as his child. I accept his chastening. and move on. Knowing he loves me and took me as I was (whcih I will never be as evil as I was before salvation again)

And now you have me crucifying my Lord!

No your crucifying him yourself. Everytime you go to him and ask him to resave you and return to you his eternal life.

I think the truth we are told about is very straight forward and simple. Our prayers need to follow the outline given in the Lord's prayer, we need to be aware of Christ as part of our life. To do that, we need to know that the law is every single thing that the 119th psalm says it is.

I think we need to see the real truth. If we stood in front of God at this moment. We would realize who truly sinful we are. So sin full, we could not even look at him for shame. I think it is sad that people can actually believe they can just confess their known sin and thing they are alright with God. when in reality, they can never know every sin they commit on a daily basis. We focus on the outward sins we see in the ten. and do not focus on the inward sin which so ensares us and keeps us from doing so many good things for God every day of our lives.

I am not calvanist. And once saved always saved did not origionate with calvin, It origionated in scripture.

While God is long suffering, I believe the scriptures are clear that sin, that is continual and habitual sin, will cause one to be lost. Luke 13:3.

then we are under law not grace. period.

Actually scripture says those truly born of God can not do the things you state. For God is in them. And they have been shown Gods love, and his chastening will not allow it.

you can't have both.

it is either law or grace.

which is it??

And your right The law (as schoolmaster) lead us to Christ. But that is when Grace kicks in does it not?

Jn 1:17 "law" refers to the law of Moses and "grace" refers to the NT law of Christ.

God never offered His grace unconditionally. People sin for they are under law which they transgress.

The way I see it: repentance is changing one's mind from unbelief to belief. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. That would be a change of heart or change of mind. We are then a part of the body of Christ, a child of God.

After one is born again he needs to ask forgiveness - 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Now if we steal something, the right thing to do would be return the property. Do we always do the right thing? If we do not return it does that condemn us or make us any less a Son?

If my son or daughter does something wrong that doesn't make them any less my son or daughter. It may harm their fellowship with the family but once they ask me to forgive them - that fellowship is restored.

Lk 13:3,5 Jesus said repent or perish.
So if the Christian does not repent he will perish. In 1 Jn 1:7 if the Christian does not continue to walk in the light, Christ's blood no longer continues to wash away all sins.

being a Christian in the first place one would steal GOD DOES FORGIVE US FOR OUR SINS BUT WE ARE A NEW PERSON IN CHRIST but you have to make your choice where your heart is and don't do it anymore read your bible live for Jesus on a daily basis.! Matthew 6:24 - No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. return the item you know its the right thing to do and walk away from the desires of this world and look to our lord Jesus you can turn it around and live for Jesus with no quilt

Christians are not perfectly sinless, they do sin on occasions. The issue is can Christians remain impenitent of their sins yet still be saved in those sins?
