Well this is fine. :)

Do you think that a faith based design obtained for witness purposes can be effective? (Bible ref., Christian fish symbol <><, etc.)

Blessings.

Certainly never more effective than the Word of God, but who am I to decide what can and cannot be a great tool for His glory? :)

I saw a guy with the entire verse John 3.16 tattooed on his arm, and I talked to him about it; and presumably he has had other conversations also; many of them, I would guess.

Blessings.

Thats a blessing for him to be able to use the tattoo as a method of witness, truly. Im sure it has it a positive way of bringing attention to that amazing verse. For me, if I wanted to tattoo every verse that I'd love to call attention to, I'd run out of skin before I got started. Thats why im so glad that they are already in ink. :)

Placement is a significant aspect.

As is the motivation of the person getting it.

Blessings.

Well, you -like all of us - would do well to concentrate on prayer and the Scriptures (with the whys and wherefore of tattoos being a low priority!)

You mention your gf on your profile; is she a born again Christian? Whether she has a tattoo, also, is not so important in the grand scheme of things; it's just a medium that can help some people in their testimony efforts.

Blessings.

I have a couple Christian friends that have Christian tattoos, and while they're getting the tattoos, they minister to the tattoo artists.

I would never get a tattoo myself though. I hate it when people write on me.

I'm sure they do it with a view to talking to others also about their faith based tattoo design. They are proven conversation-starters, anyway.

Blessings.

I don't see the point in this thread when it is sinful to get a tattoo in the first place. I love you like brothers and sisters, im not saying people with tattoos will not get into Heaven, but I'm saying I wouldn't look at them in a positive light. Read the following Bible verse from the Old Testament (Im pretty sure somebody must have posted this before, but just incase here I go)

Leviticus 19:28

King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]28 [/SUP]Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.

What about the adjacent verse which says about not trimming the corner of one's beard? Do preachers shave?

Are New Testament Christians exercising liberty according to Romans 14 really under the law as Jews in the Old Testament were?

So you can't see anything positive about tattoos? What about the story I mentioned, about my friend who shared his faith with his tattoo artist. Is that not imporatant? Or is sharing our faith with people like that just a waste? Is it impossible to use tattoos to spread the Gospel?

I'd also like if you could explain what is inherently and morally evil about getting a tattoo, specifically a tattoo based on the Christian faith.

I really dislike this question because it shows a huge lack of understand of the passage you are referring to.

megman125:

I see you acknowledge that faith based ink can be effective in witness.

But instead of referring to your dislike and to other people's lack of understanding, as you see it, why not tell us what you think instead?

Blessings.

You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard.
Leviticus 19:27

The word round in this instance (in Hebrew) refers to ripping out your hair with violence, which would often result in making your head/face a bloody mess. This was a pagan mourning practice to a false idol. When I shave, I'm not doing it with violence or as a mourning practice for a pagan fake god. In fact, shaving as we know isn't anything like what Leviticus 19:27 is referencing.

So that's why I have issues when people say "do you shave?" making an obvious reference to Leviticus 19:27, which is blatently misunderstood and misused by asking such a question.

So what about the sabbath in the same chapter? are New Testament believers really under the old economy still, and thus under the law? and what about the uncircumcised fruit in the same chapter: when you go to the supermarket, do you — wearing a bushy beard, of course — buy only uncircumcised fruit?

Obviously I don't really think you do, but you see my point?

Blessings.

She is a born-again Christian and I'm incredibly grateful for that. She doesn't have tattoos, but she could cover her face in them if she wanted to. I just don't know that its the preference of either her or I particularly to get a tattoo. I was, again, by no means disagreeing with you. I don't see how tattoos are being prioritized here whatsoever, I was pretty sure we were conversating but I may have my terminology mixed up.

God bless you guys as you work things and issues out together from the Scriptures.

This is just one thread of many about all sorts of things.

Blessings.
