My grandfather was a klansman. He never admitted it though. Back then you didn't tell your wife and the wife didn't question anything.
My mom told me that while they were anti black they were also a vigilante type. If a man wasn't supporting his family(of any race) they'd burn a cross in their yard as a warning. The klan originated in Pulaski TN(15 minutes from me) and a relative of mine was said to be the first grand wizard. He later left the Klan because he promoted reconciliation with the blacks. Unfortunately the klan became so widespread they couldn't contain the racism. Over the years the klan would become increasingly violent. The klan was developed under democratic veterans of the confederacy. They were white supremecists and hated republicans as much as blacks. Many prominent government officials were klansmen as well.

Margaret Sanger the founder of planned parenthood was in the woman's branch of the KKK. Harry Truman was also involved with them and many senetors as well.

And people still say America is a Christian nation...

Democrats still have little regard and foster destructive policies to destroy black Americans and the family unit:

He comes very close to being a war criminal.

His general burned down an entire city, taking down private owned homes and businesses.
Lincoln shut down newspapers and imprisoned journalists.
He suspended habeas corpus.

Imagine if Obama did all of that in an attempt to "hold the union" together. The same folks who love and support Lincoln would be up in arms.

Lincoln should have been impeached long before he was assassinated. The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were shoved down the necks of the former Confederate states at the end of the Civil War. The 14th severely reduced states rights and has been used as justification in numerous major court decisions including Roe V Wade.

Yeah it's hard to make those assertions because has hero status for freeing the slaves, and martyr status for being murdered, along with the "honest" legend.

I would lay odds that they are found lacking in the balances when it comes to being a Christian entity!

Lincoln's original motive for abolishing slavery was to send them back to their native country. He even made speeches supporting white supremacy but no one talks about those.

That's awfully strange, could you cite some sources from where you get this information?

“I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races—that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

I read and skimmed through some of the debate from when this was taken. Interesting read, I couldn't find the first part of your statement though.

theres several sites with this quote. I will try to find more later on.
I was kinda shocked by this too. I thought he was the hero type, but from how it looks(and the info could be faulty) that he abolished slavery just to save the union and he felt that was the only way. In other words, he didn't want to do it, but had no choice, bc he really didnt like the confederacy

The signature line from those Obama birth certificate email forwards doesn't count as a valid academic source.

Just saying. :P

Way I see it the Confederates were traitors. They betrayed the nation because America elected Lincoln a well known abolitionist and the first Republican. Not only did the South betray the nation and secede because they lost the election but they attacked America first at Fort Sumter. Perhaps I am biased, but I always seen one of the Rebels biggest military mistakes was to try to invade my mighty Ohio, for which they incited Sherman to come teach them a lesson in true warfare. How be it the Southerners always try to blame Lincoln for the Civil War when they are the ones that secede over losing an election and attacked first?

I will say one thing in favor of one Confederate though. I do give some props to Robert E. Lee, perhaps the only Confederate Elite with any real honor. From what I have read about him Lee was against Southern Slavery and was a member of West Point and even had some favor towards the Union. The only reason Lee joined the Traitors was because he had to fight for his homeland, which is fair and honorable enough. Also objectively from a military history perspective Robert E Lee is right up there with Sherman as one of the greatest generals in American and World military history. Lee was also smart and humble enough to surrender to the superior power of America when it became apparant God had given the USA victory. For Lee's humbleness and grace in defeat I believe he surely saved many lives and also helped start Reconstruction Era on the right footing. Trully Lee is probably the most responsible for redeeming the reputation of the South and I would even go as far to say that I give Lee more respect than I do Lincoln.

As for Lincoln, I see him as a decent President, held together the nation in its most troubling time to date, made the Republican Party into a real political force, declared the Emancipation Proclamation, and one of the strongest war-time leaders in all American History. Lincoln is worthy of recognition as one of the finest of all American Presidents. Though personally, the way I see it Lincoln is just a politician like Jefferson Davis, and so I give a little more kudos to the Generals and their boys than I do the politicians.

Is there a dislike button somewhere?

American Civil War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In the 1860 presidential election, Republicans, led by Abraham Lincoln, opposed the expansion of slavery into United States' territories. Lincoln won, but before his inauguration on March 4, 1861, seven slave states with cotton-based economies formed the Confederacy. Outgoing Democratic President James Buchanan and the incoming Republicans rejected secession as illegal. Lincoln's inaugural address declared his administration would not initiate civil war. Eight remaining slave states continued to reject calls for secession. Confederate forces seized numerous federal forts within territory claimed by the Confederacy. A peace conference failed to find a compromise, and both sides prepared for war. The Confederates assumed that European countries were so dependent on "King Cotton" that they would intervene; none did and none recognized the new Confederate States of America.

Hostilities began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces fired upon Fort Sumter, a key fort held by Union troops in South Carolina. Lincoln called for each state to provide troops to retake the fort; consequently, four more slave states joined the Confederacy, bringing their total to eleven."

Wikipedia is not a good source for any information.

I would disagree there lol all of the material on wikipedia is sourced.

I could instead say this is what we learned throughout public schooling but I suppose then again I do live in Ohio which was one of the most active and loyal states to the nation during the Civil War thus culturally we are very pro-Union when studying the Civil War. Interesting little fact, many of the top Generals for the valiant North came from Ohio.

Heh, but don't think I am too biased, for I have seen both sides and the Civil War conflict run deep in my family ties. My mom's side are all loyal Ohioans with a family tree that extends back to a goodly Revolutionary War soldier named William Sickafoose (lol I think we can both agree we ain't down with that earthly monarchy stuff.) My dad's side are all Southerners and I've heard their dixie-gripe for years lol. "War of Northern Aggression" and all that lol, yet they ignore the fact that it was actually the South that seceded first and fired the first shots, hence they are the aggressors and by technicality traitors to the nation (though I personally still give props to the Southerners like Robert E. Lee whom were against slavery but merely defended their homeland and were not part of the political circles that caused the greatest betrayl in all American History.)

Here, since I suppose I have done some fair ragging on the Southerners, here is a good little synopsis of the South's greatest hero, and like I said, even a general I can respect. Very interesting fact is Lincoln even offered to make Lee commander of the Union Army! Sigh, if only Lee would have joined us the Civil War wouldn't have gone on any longer than a few months I think. But I can understand his honorable view point of having to fight for his homeland.

Robert E. Lee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Robert Edward Lee (January 19, 1807 – October 12, 1870) was an American career military officer who is best known for having commanded the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War.
The son of Revolutionary War officer Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee III and a top graduate of the United States Military Academy, Robert E. Lee distinguished himself as an exceptional officer and combat engineer in the United States Army for 32 years. During this time, he served throughout the United States, distinguished himself during the Mexican-American War, served as Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, and married Mary Custis.
When Virginia declared its secession from the Union in April 1861, Lee chose to follow his home state, despite his personal desire for the country to remain intact and despite the fact that President Abraham Lincoln had offered Lee command of a Union Army.[SUP][1][/SUP] During the Civil War, Lee originally served as a senior military adviser to President Jefferson Davis. He soon emerged as a shrewd tactician and battlefield commander, winning numerous battles against far superior Union armies. His abilities as a tactician have been praised by many military historians.[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][3]"[/SUP]

Do you have any clue why the states seceded?

Do you have any clue why the states seceded?

Lol well a partisan Johnny Reb would say because of "states rights."

A partisan Billy Yankee would say because of slavery.

A non-partisan American would probably see merit in both views.

My personal opinion: the insurrectionists seceded because Lincoln won the election and he was an avid abolitionist whom was going to oppose the expansion of slavery into the Territories. It is true Lincoln did not intend to end slavery in the South, but merely to prevent its spread into the Territories as they became states. However, seeing as the South decide to secede and make war against America anyways Lincoln used the opportunity to further his cause of abolition and declared the Emancipation Proclamation most likely for purposes of propaganda and to boost war-time morale for Americans fighting for America. But that's just my opinion of the matter.

Here is what Wikipedia says from same article American Civil War:

"The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the war began. The issue has been further complicated by historical revisionists, who have tried to offer a variety of reasons for the war.[SUP][10][/SUP] Slavery was the central source of escalating political tension in the 1850s. The Republican Party was determined to prevent any spread of slavery, and many Southern leaders had threatened secession if the Republican candidate, Lincoln, won the 1860 election. After Lincoln had won without carrying a single Southern state, many Southern whites felt that disunion had become their only option, because they felt as if they were losing representation, which hampered their ability to promote pro-slavery acts and policies.[SUP][11][/SUP]"

What, in your opinion, would the gov. have to do before you advocated rebellion, secession, or civil war?

I do not advocate rebellion, secession, or civil war. History proves whenever these things happen nothing good ever comes of it going back as far as the Bible.

However, my opinion would be that if America decided to attempt to completely remove God from its society, began open genocide of Christians, or began to try to enforce a state worship of the Baalim then surely the LORD would be justified in destroying this land. Though I mean this in a more literal destruction fashion than a political regime change or civil war.
