last week i was jolted from my bed by a call from an exasperated client who was somewhat rude to me (for no fault of mine). my words to him belied my true feelings -- i was sugary-sweet, accommodating, even pleasant, in spite of his tone and words.

but in my mind, i was using him as a punching bag, and thinking things that aren't suitable for this forum (or a child of God). because of the way my day started, i continued on that path, using it as a launching point to delve headfirst into cynicism and snark.

as i ruminated over the unpleasant conversation i'd just had, i was hit with a wave of conviction about my self-pity and nasty attitude towards him.

i also saw how easily i could tolerate a nasty, judgmental attitude in myself, since he crossed my "comfort barrier" -- by calling me super early, ruining my morning routine and getting cranky and loud on me. I justified my attitude.

i was then reminded of ephesians 4:31

Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). AMP

the greek word for "malice" in that passage is: kakia, which Strong's defines as:

From kakia/kakos; badness, i.e. (subjectively) depravity, or (actively) malignity, or (passively) trouble -- evil, malice(-iousness), naughtiness, wickedness.

what spirit of kakos do you hold in your heart right now?

how have you dealt with these issues in the past?

how do you guard against developing a spirit of kakos in your life, especially when others treat you badly?

do you have a "trigger" that when people cross it, you can more slip into (or justify) your bad attitude?

I have a past that is full of evil bad attitude. I am getting better now that i have come to Jesus. However I do still catch myself at times feeling very angry at people for what I would consider now to be petty things. I don't voice my anger anymore, but I confess it to God. Many more times than I'd like to admit I have been in tears, crying like a small child, begging for the hatred to leave my heart. The anger that manifests itself is what i consider my downfall. I know on here i seem very bright, funny, and outgoing. You will find though, if you dig deeper, that I am a man who is still in recovery. I still have hangups in my walk with our Lord. I am improving by the day, and being here with all of you helps more than any of you will ever know. So yeah I still have anger sometimes, but I know Jesus has my back, and is leading me in the right direction.

P.S. sorry for the speech

I may not have a bad attitude necessarily but I know I'm getting depressed.

I need to learn to say yes more.

I was always the champion of the ability to say no.

But now I never say yes to anything.

I've unplugged a little from here. I give the occasional like, rare comment, and respond to PM but, really I don't check all the new threads and I have nothing to add really.

All I can say is... Yes, I have an attitude.

Is it good or bad? I'd probably better not say, or I might incriminate myself. :)

Some days I do. For about a week I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally did. It was my own fault for suffering fools.

I'm thankful that God helped me hold my tongue. I'm also thankful for wonderful people who prayed me out of it. :)
