Hey Everyone,
This is a gentle joke centered around a post in another thread. Do people look down on you for being single? Do they assume your life is empty and meaningless? Do they look at you with pity and speak to you as if you're only half a person?
What do YOU have to say about your life? What do you like about your life now vs. in the past--are you in a better place, period of growth, or frame of mind? Some may feel sorry for us for being single, and it DOES get tough, but surely we all have at least 5 things we love about our single lives, right?
Tell us about your situation, and Name Your Five.
Most people know I haven't had a relationship in about a decade. I was talking with some friends last night about how people think a relationship is like a Bag Of Doritos--they assume that if we just get off our (implied) lazy butts and go looking (Where? Spouses R Us?), all we have to do is pick out the relationship or person we want, toss them into the cart and we're good to go!! Instant Relationship! (Most people that assume this forget that they met their spouse in high school or college, where it was much more likely to meet and mingle.)
Am I lonely? Maybe I'd better plead the fifth on that one. As I was unpacking my things in my new place (no TV or internet at the time for over a week), I found myself talking to one of my pillows: "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while... How was the trip? There, there, I know it's been rough, but it's ok... We're home now." Yeah, I know... But...
(Hey, that pillow and I have been through A LOT, ok? Prayerful tears and frustrations as well as joyful hugs.)
But am I a loser? *shrugs* Maybe to some, but to God, we all have value, and our lives all make a contribution.
Here are My Five Things I Love About My Life:
1. I now live closer to family (I spent 10 years living across the country from them.) Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to volunteer to cook Sunday Dinner.
2. I can make small trips on my days off (to museums, gardens, libraries, etc.), even if it's just around the corner.
3. I get to try new hobbies, though I feel sorry for the plants I am about to purchase... and hopefully won't do any harm to. (It's a good thing plants can't give do a background check into the History of Your Relationship with Vegetation--I'd never pass.)
4. I can eat ice cream, OF ANY FLAVOR (or several flavors at once), ANY time I want... without sharing!!!
5. I was adopted into a Christian home and was taught strong values that are holding me through every area of my life, no matter the loss or the loneliness.
What are five things you really enjoy about YOUR life?
